  1. Link to Poolman’s bio/stats: https://www.nhl.com/player/tucker-poolman-8477359
  2. They won’t have to. QH will just refuse a new contract and utilize the NMC NTC clause he’s about to receive to force his way to NJD. The question is what will be the return? btw, I’m being cautiously sarcastic about this.
  3. Which is what we needed though. Plus he’s young. Let’s see what/if he resigns in CGY for though. Anything above 4.25 is more than I would have wanted to pay for him.
  4. Word is they moved Bear to make room for Cody Ceci on a 4yr deal at 3+mill per year. I guess we’ll see
  5. They are similar but QH has far better overall hockey and positional sense than Barrie. He sees and reads the game much better. Barrie doesn’t so much drive the play as he does capitalize on it. QH drives and carries the play. Both are great offensive Dman, PP anchors, but Hughes is far more versatile. Give QH a bit more time in the league (he’s only 21 btw) and you’ll see a refined, accountable Dman. Don’t think Barrie has that in his game. He’s 30, haven’t seen it yet.
  6. Gone need more beef, and possible retaliation, with the size of SEA D
  7. In terms of everything we need, age, size, nastiness, right side D, contract value, Russian camaraderie for Podz, this guy is a great fit. I really really hope we can do a deal with CHI for him. Just don’t see a real downside to seeing if he works.
  8. I think the other part of it is who him and Holtby replaced. Players can’t focus the resentment on management so it likely was directed somewhere else. The team was also pretty familiar with him from some brutal games against VGK and he likely already had a bad rep before in the Nux room being traded here. Schmidt’s a talkative guy. I’m sure some chirping in the past was not forgotten. Lastly, Schmidt is a pretty boisterous personality. You look at some of the young core (EP, BB, QH) and they all have this kind of chill and stoic aspect to their personalities. Just didn’t mesh, imho. It was worth the attempt but we made out pretty A-ok all things considered.
  9. Mods - can we please start a new thread titled “(Speculation) Nate Schmidt to be dealt out of Winnipeg very soon any minute now?”. I already feel the loss of that last thread. RIP
  10. If MAF decides to play in CHI I would hope that could mean a Zadorov cap dump coming our way
  11. Yes, I think he’s also changing his legal name to Jim Daniel Henrik Benning
  12. Tarasenko @ 30% retained. spare parts for defence this year. muuuuhahahahahahahahabaaaarrrrffff.
  13. Everybody keeps saying saying he’d worth more than a 3rd. No, he’s not. Because after shopping him since the exit interviews ended, a 3rd rounder in a good draft is what was determined as fair current market value and most that any GM wanted to offer whether any of us likes it or not. If he was worth more in the marketplace right now, with the contract clause and those teams declined on him, then effectively his value is determined. Can’t compare apples and oranges (eg. Brenden Dillon)
  14. Sorry man, link I had was from a deep dive where I read an article in an Ohio newspaper that had recounted the history of Laine as a player from WPG to CBJ and the dynamics/changes that has occurred with the Blue Jackets. Basically the summary of what I was referencing was that Laine basically came into WPG expecting to outshine the team and that he had eyes for Wheelers position on the top line and as a leader. This didn’t sit well with Wheeler or Schiefele. Similar to Evander Kane situation. Maurice let the boys try to figure it out themselves. It ended up with Laine claiming he was a victim of bullying, maybe he was, but essentially not taking any responsibility for his own actions in subverting the existing leadership. He’s eventually traded to CBJ and apparently attempted the same thing in the locker room. Torts responded by benching him for his play (and behind the scenes antics) and the existing leadership core tried to manage it but the same thing occurred again and split the room. The GM, Kekalainen has previous history with Laine and wanted him as an important piece to build around and as a voice of team leadership going forward. Guys like Atkinson, Foligno were aware of what happened in WPG, were offended by that, thought Laine should earn/prove it and not have it handed to him, but it was never addressed adequately. Some players, long serving, felt betrayed. Kekalainen understood the fractures, took it as an opportunity to change everything up. Tossed Torts and decided it was time to reorganize the roster, with the new core being built around Laine. Atkinson, a hero to the CBJ community then traded without notice, and still with two years left on his deal, for Voracek. Atkinson, deeply hurt and feeling disrespected, comes out with his passionate comments on Twitter effectively calling out what has happened in CBJ without directly saying it. Indicates there is a lack of character in some new CBJ acquisitions (Laine). That’s about it. Sorry, wish I could have found the link again for ya. It was interesting read.
  15. There are going to be a lot of experienced solid backups still available though. I’d like to see us give MDP a little time/taste this year in the bigs to really prod that hunger. Guy has been patient, sat for a long time last year not playing. Should at least be rewarded/incentivized/seasoned a little bit.
  16. Who knows, SEA might shock some people tomorrow on UFA day. Still some opportunity to dramatically improve with guys like Tarasenko etc too.
  17. You do know that the reason Atkinson was moved on was because Laine has taken over the CBJ dressing room and that it is a toxic, swampy mess. For Atkinson, a heart and soul Blue Jacket, to say what he did shows that there might still be real problems there.
  18. Yeah I understand that. What I am trying to illustrate is people complain like he’s clueless on the ice defensively. He’s not at all, he’s not a one dimensional Dman (like a Barrie) that he’s unfairly compared to. Defensive anchor like Hedman? Never said he was that either. Never even came close to comparing him to that. Why are you? Do you think QH is redundant because he’s not in the Hedman mold? Trying to make sense of what you’re saying, but if that’s the rub then I guess players like Makar and Krug and Heiskenen and oh yeah this years’ Norris trophy winner Adam Fox, are alllll unnecessary to their teams and will never win them a cup because although they are likely the most skilled Dman on their respective rosters, and vital to the play, they are undersized? It’s a nonsense argument. Not every team can draft or acquire a Chara or Weber. And although I would love for us to have that big reliable captain type franchise Dman, and also believe them to be a pretty necessary piece, you don’t get there by blowing up the complimentary pieces which will enable that success when you do acquire him. The real point in my ramble is QH doesn’t have to be a Hedman. I watched the playoffs. I never saw TB ice Hedman alone and win a series/cup. The teams that do win have a championship caliber balance of size, skill and grit. Would I love for the Nux D corps to be bigger and meaner? Absolutely! But we are fortunate enough to be already blessed with some serious skill in QH. That should be respected.
