(Rumour) CBJ receiving calls on Zach Werenski
RWJC replied to RWJC's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
For a little more context, and I’ll admit this is dated (2019), but for anyone counting QH out for the future in terms of defensive capabilities, I hope this opens your eyes a bit: https://www.vancouverisawesome.com/courier-archive/news/you-should-watch-this-breakdown-of-quinn-hughes-defensive-play-video-3112580 -
(Rumour) CBJ receiving calls on Zach Werenski

Agreed, Bobby D. Actually he does defend and if anyone really watches him he’s very good at reading the incoming offense as they set up their attack/play. The only fault with him is that he’s smaller, doesn’t have the reach or size to forcibly knock a guy off the puck, but his hockey sense/IQ is top drawer. I don’t know what people are watching but the kid is fantastic. He was exhausted last year. He’s been offense minded because that’s what we needed from him most and it’s his strength. I’m thankful the coaching staff has allowed him to develop and focus on that side of his game. Like I said in a post somewhere else a while ago, give him the right D partner and he will improve his two way game through osmosis. It takes two to play D. For such a young player he’s being asked a lot. So much responsibility already on him. Give him a chance to prove himself a bit more. Having Shaw will hopefully help angle his game a bit better but I’d lose my s#!t if the coaching staff suddenly tried to convert him into a stronger 2 way player. No one rails on Boeser for his lack of a serious back check. Why? It’s not what’s expected of him. What about effin McDavid?!?! Gimme a break. Some ppl just can’t understand the gifts they get given and instead wanna pi$$ all over it. Makes no sense to me. -

Further evidence that it’s not a destination. This coming from longtime CBJ Cam Atkinson: -

CBJ roster has been crazy and turbulent the last couple years. I can’t see any player wanting to go there specifically right now until things settle down. With Torts gone it’ll improve things but I just don’t see CBJ boasting a really good team for a couple years still, and that is Laine even decides to stay. -
[Rumour/Speculation] Luke Schenn returning to Vancouver
RWJC replied to AV.'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
The major problem is the speed difference between QH and Schenn. That presence was great for QH but in terms of the O play I think there was always the onus on QH while roaming or setting up in the zone, to ensure he didn’t leave Schenn outnumbered on a turnover because if he did, he couldn’t count on Schenn’s foot speed to minimize positional chances. I think that’s why we need someone with better acceleration and turning than Schenn for that role. It’s too bad because he’s a great throwback Dman but is an ideal bottom pairing backfill/7th man. -

Schmidt deal is very soon. Hamonic appears to be close. Hope that clarifies, hah. Anyway his agent said this morning (or yesterday?) that he likes Van and they want him back want and negotiations have gone quite well. -

Problem is Schmidt would likely negate a trade to CBJ. That’s why I didn’t include him in what I’d propose but if he ok’d it I’d be allll over it if I was JB -

Apparently we’re very close on Hamonic too. At least this morning that was the word -
Get an agent and request a PTO. I’ll help find you sponsors and work your social media campaign so you at least get a feel-good story minor league contract out of it…but I want 20% of your earnings

What I wonder about is if Ritchie is a product of being a Bruin. The Boston aura took to him and transformed him. Look what it did to Hall. I can’t say I’m confident Ritchie will be the same player elsewhere for the money, unless it’s a similar environment and team work ethic/understanding as in BOS. I like what he showed but I’m hesitant for him to come here, tbh.

Rumour going round is Bruins using some of that remaining cap to sign Derek Forbort as a UFA
-
I was wondering/concerned about this myself. Aside from his play and stats I think he had a falling out in CGY because he was dating the daughter of someone in management or something? Maybe that would light a fire under his rear, but I’d much rather EDM test that theory out than us.

(Rumour) CBJ receiving calls on Zach Werenski

If we can’t agree to a fair deal with Garland, I’d offer him + OJ or Boner and a 1st provided ZW would pre-agree to a reasonable extension (hard to say if he’d want to come to Canada though). If that doesn’t cut it, then trade Schmidt for parts that would be included in a trade to CBJ. It would suck but I consider ZW a potential franchise Dman. Jones took a lot of the limelight with both in CBJ. ZW is vastly underrated imho 6’2, 220lb, 24 years old. https://www.google.ca/amp/s/www.dispatch.com/sports/20200107/zach-werenski-no-longer-one-dimensional-for-columbus-blue-jackets%3ftemplate=ampart -

Huggybear???!? Watch me flip flop in 3 years time when he wants to go to NJD. -
True, and he can always tally a ton of assists too everytime the opposition scores on us. He’s a defensive nightmare. No thank you. He can go find a job with Fox sports or something as a 3rd rate analyst/commentator.

(Rumour) Svechnikov (DET) not being qualified as RFA

But if you don’t qualify an RFA and then eventually sign them for less, aren’t they then subject to waivers? Apologies if I’m mistaken. -

This is good. Too many of the same guys playing the same low level role with limited upside. Would rather gamble a few contract spots on players with serious upside but aren’t quite there yet in development. Good job JB. -
Yes, he’s another LHD. Yes, he’s got quite the contract at 5mill expiring at the end of this season. But he is a STUD. Highly doubt Schmidt would waive to go to CBJ and even higher doubt we have the appetite to try and trade for him, but man this is one player I’d love to see us acquire and lock up. According to Friedman CBJ is receiving calls on him because of his status and the team blowing things up a bit. Merzlikins being linked to EDM now too. Well to be fair Svechnikov hasn’t been accused of rape yet
