  1. Yzerman not qualifying Svechnikov means that he could be trying to sign him to a cheaper deal, which if accepted means he’d have to clear waivers. Likely to go UFA though. Perhaps another low cost reclamation project that could also provide some Russian comrade factor for Podz? Former 1st round pick, 24 years old, RW, 6’3, 208lbs. Stats: https://www.nhl.com/player/evgeny-svechnikov-8478431#bio Personally I’d prefer a Russian player with some NHL tenure and success who can help knead that into Podz’ game. Thoughts? https://www.mlive.com/redwings/2021/07/red-wings-decline-to-qualify-evgeny-svechnikov-making-him-free-agent.html
  2. Cmon man, you know what we gotta do. Gotta convince him to take Raymond, Ballard and a 1st instead.
  3. Haha is it? Thanks man, I was really hoping it was Kucherov. I traded him away too early in my fantasy hockey keeper league and he’s punished me for it for years.
  4. Another angle. He didn’t even buy Kucherov dinner first, the rat ba$turd.
  5. Given that MTL just drafted an admitted “sex offender” or whatever the title would be, I think he will get another chance in the league. He may have to go play overseas for a bit first, and should his head and heart catch up to his talent, he’ll be welcomed back, especially if the allegations can not be proven. It’s guys like DeAngelo who really make it difficult to find a roster spot for because the propensity to repeat previous offences is just too high.
  6. I think you are correct in that assumption… This is what actually sent Kucherov to LTIR.
  7. I like JB as GM, better than smug Gillis imho, but I really think there must be some influence from the Sedins in all this. Too early to tell but all the moves so far seem like wins or lateral moves and no losses. Fingers crossed.
  8. Downgrade but cap relief. Zadorov and 2nd or 3rd would be fine by me. Gives our blue line some much needed grit and snarl.
  9. I totally agree with you but we don’t know what EP and QH are going to get for term or dollars yet. Imho that’s what’s going to dictate whether we keep Schmidt or not. Heard that contract talks are very close to an agreement, and if you can offload Schmidt’s cap and pick up two players who can fill plug any remaining holes in the roster you have to do it. Schmidt isn’t part of the core, which we need to cater to and build around. I hope we can keep him. He’s a great 2 way Dman and what this team needs. But between him and Myers one of them is moveable at that salary and I don’t think it will be Myers. It’s a shame to move him but what this team has lacked is depth in all positions. JB has done a great job of addressing it so far and with the market being the way it, could likely fetch a nice return/profit on Schmidt. Asset management.
  10. Might need the cap space though. Even with Holtby traded/bought out.
  11. Likely because it seems the intention was to bring him in for ED exposure and that’s all they thought of him. Plus the plan was for Rathbone and OJ to get some time, had to see what they had in Chatfield, etc. After signing EP and QH, and others, don’t think we’ll have much $ left and this may end up being the best option left.
  12. Bowie could be serviceable as a 7th D if need be. Good speed and hits too, 6’2 202lb right hand shot. His game just reached a peak and he never grew into further expectations. His actual d play needs fine tuning. As a 7th though he’s a decent asset and we already have him signed at 725K for one more year, maybe worth a shot with Shaw and see if he can turn his game around?
  13. While not a gif, still one of my fave Nux clips from throughout the years. Good memories. Was with a group of buddies watching this game on tv, all of us high and buzzed and this almost killed us.
  14. yeah, I sure wish we drafted guys like EP, or QH, or Bo, or Demko, etc who are all playing in the NHL and not just being successful, but instrumental. Man, why can’t our GM and management team learn how to draft. Always striking out. Why don’t you do some research before you post nonsense? Guess who was drafted that same year? 1st round? McCann 2nd round? Demko. 3rd round? Tryamkin. 5th round (because we didn’t own a 4th)? Forsling. Take a look at the draft log and see how many players from the those rounds failed to even sniff the NHL. Sorry man, you’re entitled to your opinion but the consensus amongst most pundits is that Benning is one of the best GMs at drafting. Not his fault that JV couldnt mature enough to take the next step. That’s on the player and many fail at doing just that. You can only give them the opportunity and that’s what was provided over and over and over.
  15. The crappy thing about that Ciccarelli incident…Geoff Courtnall was part of it. Not saying he’s guilty, but given Ciccarelli’s previous issues prior to the incident something tells me there’s some truth to the claim. https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/politics/1990/05/15/4-capitals-accused-of-rape/97bc50b8-0bf0-493c-b7d1-d8a08591ef6f/
  16. I’d hedge a bet saying Schmidt is still likely worth a little more than straight up for Zadorov. He’s proven and has term. could snag a 3/4 out of that deal too I’d imagine
  17. Think it would have to be more based on the Risto trade. Likely include a prospect like Woo plus Hogz, plus 9OA and a mid round pick. BUF in re-rebuild and future is what would be attractive to them now I think.
