  1. I must have been daydreaming about us being one season removed from a solid playoff appearance
  2. Life is a little bit different over there too though. It’s not just the contract or tax, it’s the perks you receive outside of your contract, the connections made to oligarchs and future money/post career planning. It’s more than just signing with a hockey club and playing hockey if you’re an exceptional Russian born player and remain loyal to the KHL.
  3. Huge blunder. 30 other GMs are all failures as well because they passed on trading for the rights to the same players you mentioned. Go figure.
  4. Interesting, both played with SKA St. Petersburg. Same age demo. Another Russian to buddy up with Podkolzin especially as JB revealed he is looking for another Russian player to provide that camaraderie. I'd definitely be into this as our pick if it came down to it, but he's a defensive minded F and I think the prospect pool needs more offence driven F with an edge to them or dedicated O or D zone defensemen prospects. Either way I'd be drafting for O as it seems defensive minded forwards can be had much easier at the NHL level. Lots of players re-calibrated into that role during their careers once the O potential begins to dwindle. On that note: https://dailyhive.com/vancouver/russian-players-canucks-could-add-podkolzin
  5. Unless it is a way to circumvent the current rules regarding UFA negotiations and affords JB the heads up to get the deal done through and with SEA so he can then focus on other residual deals ass fallout from making this one. Highly unlikely, but one can dream, right?
  6. Further proof this dude died years ago. JB should be petitioning Bettman/league brass that its a health hazard to be transporting a dead body around. Even in an equipment bag where he belongs. This is some real "Weekend at Bernie's" type $h!z right here.
  7. I realize this happens all the time and rarely does a Russian player bolt from the NHL back home, but it at least presents some competition for Guerin and could further handcuff the Wild a bit in terms of cap hit and their intended salary structure going forward. I guess this was also some what anticipated and in part helped Guerin convince ownership to approve the buyouts of Suter and Parise. TSN: Pierre LeBrun reports Minnesota Wild winger Kirill Kaprizov received a significant offer from KHL club CSKA Moscow. Guerin is aware of it but he believes they can bridge the cap in contract talks with the 2021 Calder Trophy winner. https://www.thescore.com/nhl/news/2188015/report-kaprizov-has-contract-offer-from-khls-cska-moscow
  8. It may end up being a blessing in disguise that we didn't get Larsson through FA. Reading his back issues are the lingering/long term type and that this, in part, could be why he agreed on a lesser AAV deal early rather than the condition be exposed later in UFA negotiations and having to potentially settle for less on either AAV or term. We shall see?
  9. Agreed and further to that, it's been confirmed that Benning was in on Graves. Leddy is 30 years old and another offence minded LHD that comes with a 5.5 mill cap hit. Acquiring either him or Graves, both definitely roster players, prior to ED would have meant exposing another D to it. Which is worse? Again, all the planning and deals won't be revealed until after the ED. Let's just see what happens.
  10. "The Vancouver Canucks general manager acknowledged Monday that selecting a centre and a defenceman are priorities with the ninth overall pick Friday and 41st on Saturday. And he knows a number of coveted players should be available. So, swing away." https://theprovince.com/sports/hockey/nhl/vancouver-canucks/canucks-jim-benning-buoyed-by-draft-options-in-a-challenging-scouting-year
  11. Friendly wager: You owe me 5 cats from your cupboard if the Nux indeed draft him. If they don't, I'll go shopping for you at the SPCA. Deal, or is that too rich for your Melmacian blood?
  12. I mostly agree with you (I'm just the messenger). That said, GMs obviously talk to other GMs about their draft intentions and who they respectively like as players. Scouts do the same thing. Lots of trades made just prior to and on the draft floor for this very reason, especially contingency arrangements/agreements, and this info does leak out on occasion whether it be on purpose or not. Like I said previously, I really hope we go with BPA though.
  13. And some Depends when he realizes he's going to be hung out to dry (out), again. I may be cruel, but I smile envisioning old man Keith wheeling old man Smith out to the crease in a wheelchair for the warm up skate.
  14. Sounds like they are also buying out Koskinen which will leave Stalock as their backup. Also just in: EDM liquor store sales up 350% as of 11:23am this morning.
  15. None of us have any idea what is to come yet. The off-season has barely even begun, and truthfully, the ED is only slightly impactful in terms of how it tinkers with most rosters. A lot of teams are simply using it to try and relieve cap. If the players aren’t taken through it, then the action will begin post ED. Lind was exposed because every team has a Lind and very few want to or can leverage draft picks to take another one on, especially in a case where Lind could also be scooped up by another team when he inevitably is sent down to the minors. I think JB understood that there is that risk going forward and instead put that into Seattle’s lap to manage. It allowed us to retain Gadj who I would argue has a far better chance of a 4th line role with this club this season. And acquiring Dickinson also made Lind expendable to a degree and seeing as he was immediately protected from ED it’s fair to say that consensus is we upgraded out of the whole ED prep/transaction experience and picked up a proven player over someone who still remains a question mark and vulnerable to poaching.
  16. What I’m garnering from a lot of talk is that the Nux may very well be focused on drafting for positional need this year and not BPA, hence Centre and McTavish/Sillinger. I’m partial to the BPA camp myself.
  17. Other NHL GMs to Benning: “oh you’re likely going to leave a waiver wire prospect eligible for the expansion draft, but we can give you a draft pick or two so we can lose him ourselves to either ED or waivers?? Even though we have our own dead weight we could get rid of? Oh and you want us to take Holtby too and his contract even though we’re almost at cap ourselves? And if one of them isn’t selected we have to figure that $&!? out on how to resolve the roster space and cap dollars??? WOW! Thanks Jimmy!! What a steal of a deal!! Here have a 2nd round pick for complicating things for us and making your own life easier.” I bet the phone’s been ringing off the hook from GMs just begging for this deal, so much so that Jim and his assistants can’t even keep up… C’mon man.
  18. With McTavish most recently moving up the draft rankings a bit further, there’s talk that the Canucks are looking at another C as the 9OA pick in Cole Sillinger. Thoughts? Josh Beneteau of Sportsnet: Cole Sillinger, son of Mike Sillinger, is a fun prospect to keep an eye on. There is a chance he ends up with the Vancouver Canucks. He has sniper capabilities but needs some work. The younger Sillinger has a nose for the net much like his father. He is versatile but will need to work on skating as he rises in levels. That is inevitable. So far, Sillinger has more than met expectations and will continue to need to do so. https://www.google.ca/amp/s/www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/prospect-interest-cole-sillinger-steps-fathers-shadow/sn-amp/ https://www.google.ca/amp/s/www.allaboutthejersey.com/platform/amp/2021/6/20/22542416/cole-sillinger-2021-nhl-draft-prospect-profile-one-of-top-offensive-talents-in-the-draft-whl-ushl https://www.eliteprospects.com/player/201844/cole-sillinger
  19. Hearing #SeaKraken will select D Kurtis MacDermid from #LAKings. Sounds like the pick from #NHLBruins will be Jeremy Lauzon. Sounds like the selection will be Morgan Geekie, a player Francis picked in 2017. #SeaKraken will be selecting D Gavin Bayreuther from Columbus.
  20. David Pagnotta@TheFourthPeriod·5mHalfway there #SeaKraken :D: Mark Giordano, Adam Larsson, Jamie Oleksiak, Cale Fleury, Vince DunnG: Chris Driedger, Vitek Vanecek, Joey DaccordF: Jared McCann, Kole Lind, Jordan Eberle, Brandon Tanev, Mason Appleton, Joonas Donskoi, Carsen Twarynski, Calle Jarnkork
