And this will prove to be one of the many reasons Hronek may end up being the better choice over Chychrun: Jakob Chychrun To Miss Multiple Weeks March 25th, 2023 at 2:17pm CST • By Brian La Rose When the Senators acquired Jakob Chychrunfrom Arizona just prior to the trade deadline, the hope was that his addition would help lead a late playoff push. That push just got considerably more difficult now as head coach D.J. Smith told TSN 1200 (Twitter link) that the blueliner will miss at least a couple of weeks with a lower-body injury. Chychrun had made a nice impact on Ottawa’s back end since the trade, collecting five points in a dozen games while averaging more than two blocks per contest in 21 minutes a night of action. For the season, he has played in 48 games between the Sens and Coyotes, picking up 33 points (the second most of his career) with his strong showing early on helping Arizona land three draft picks (including Ottawa’s first-round pick this season) in the swap.

I was being sarcastic for the exact reason you mention

I propose Jim Benning for colour commentary.

Cheech will be missed.

There will be buyers in the offseason. There will also unfortunately be a few teams struggling to become cap compliant which muddies the water a bit in terms of asset value. I’d expect there will be takers and us maybe having to eat some salary from somewhere, but whatever we shed in cap saved will be reinvested immediately into this team, and with focus on D. can envision our top 4 being very pricey again but more efficiently balanced. I think there’s a strong chance we go after Gavrikov and wouldnt be surprised it’s already a preconceived notion based on his agency/rep. it’s a long shot, but only caveat that might affect the business partnership could be any personal differences potentially arising between Kuz and Tocchet in the span between. I truly hope that never occurs as Kuz is a goldmine. I don’t imagine we’ll ever be operating as an internal cap limited team with this core intact. Too much potential for ownership not to invest heavy into. And I slag ownership all the time, but gotta give credit where it’s due and at least they spend to the cap and then some. Supporting this club could be an even worse experience for some if we were a middling team with a fixed budget.

Canucks Q&A: Brock Boeser's revealing journey of pain, healing, hope Brock Boeser’s demeanour was always admirable. No matter the circumstance, his ability to process personal and professional struggles has been as great as his once-dominant game that became derailed by injuries and indifferent play. And the crushing loss of his father, Duke, to a long cancer and dementia battle last May at the age of 61 took a tremendous toll. What the Vancouver Canucks winger has shown through that strife — and the National Hockey League rumour mill that linked him to a number of transitions before the March 3 deadline — is that he’s human. “Definitely, some mental stuff that I’m still working through on a personal level,” he said in a candid one-on-one interview. “I have a guy outside our team that I’ve been working with — kind of a life (coach) guy. With the things I’ve gone through, and last year while still trying to play, it was really hard. “From that aspect, I’m just trying to get back to my true self and being the hockey player I was before. And get back to that mindset of coming to the rink and getting better every day — scoring goals and having that confidence. “I really felt that I’ve lost that over the last couple of years, just dealing with stuff and I’m just trying to find that swagger. It’s important to make sure you’re good mentally.” That’s difficult when you plan to score 30 goals, suffer a training camp hand injury, have just a dozen goals through 57 games and leave management and the coach wondering what they have and whether he’s worth keeping. “He’s an interesting guy because I think there’s more — there’s another level — and it’s my job to get it out of him,” said Canucks coach Rick Tocchet. “He’s a little inconsistent and there are parts of his game that need to get going. “I’d really like to get involved in his training. If we can get him to another level, it’s going to be huge for the Canucks.” Here’s our latest weekly Q&A with Boeser: Q: When did trade deadline stress get to you? A: Honestly, it was worse when all those trade were happening five days before the deadline. I thought that’s kind of when teams were making their moves and when it really affected me was right before that Dallas game (5-4 OT win Feb. 27). I had a terrible game (minus-2, no shots, 15:01). I couldn’t get dialed in and that’s when it affected me the most and I was pretty stressed and really thought about it. Q: What that did that mean for deadline day? A: The last 1 1/2 days I wasn’t worried at all. I felt like everything big had happened and they (management) had expressed they liked the way I had been playing under Toc (Tocchet). Just a sigh of relief. I don’t have to stress out about moving dogs and leaving some of my best friends here. That’s a big switch if you get traded. I don’t know if I was ready for that. Q: How did you process the passing of Duke? A: First couple of months was like really weird. I moved houses (Minnesota), so I kept pretty busy to keep my mind off it, but it really hit me when I got back here — especially on road trips. My dogs are really good for me, and on the road and sometimes it would really hit me just before bed. How much I miss him (Duke) and talking to him. I’ve been focusing on taking it day-by-day and being grateful. Q: Your shooting percentage is 9.8, why so low? A: I just feel like I’ve got away from it so much. I’ve been making good plays. But I’ve got to get back in the habit of when I get the puck, with time and creating that space, that I’ve got to find that shot. That was my mindset the first couple of years to just shoot. It’s got to the point where I want to have a strong finish and score, but I still expect more. That will really fall heavily on me this summer and that will really motivate me. Q: Can you become a consistent 30-goal guy? A: I know I can be, 1,000 per cent. The hand injury was terrible. I just wanted to get a good start to this year. It’s probably on me. I was really pushing to get back for that first game. I should have probably missed the first couple, but we couldn’t have guessed that it (hand) was going to split back open. It just happened. I know I can be one of the top guys here and that’s my mindset is to prove what I can be. Q: Players fiddle with stick flex. How about you? A: I switched it a couple of years ago, but definitely going to teeter with it this summer. More stiffness. I used to use a 90 flex, but I’ve been at 85 for a couple of years and I’m going to go back to 90. It just feels a little whippy right now. Q. How have you found Tocchet’s practices? A: With details and structure, there’s more accountability. He lets guys know. It’s good. He challenges guys. It’s, ‘we need you, let’s get going.’ It’s what you need to do to win in this league. bkuzma@postmedia.com

[PGT] Ottawa Senators at Vancouver Canucks | Mar. 11, 2023

Maaaan, I can’t believe people weren’t at the very least excited by the type of rugged character our coaches have. Their style of play and how that will affect how they coach, is something totally imperatively relevant to finally having a real team identity. I think it’s underrated how influential their respective careers will be in and part of the abstract and relationship and respect given between player and coach. They already walked the talk so it’s fair to demand it of the team. Really excited to see this translate. It will have a shelf life, but the next few years could be awesome for the fanbase, imho. -

I’m on team tank, I’d even say I’m riding in the locomotive section! But in all honesty, I love seeing this this team play a cohesive, strong game with character and if it means losing a couple spots in the draft, so be it. I just want to see the best iteration of this team and happy to see how they are evolving, even with draft position hanging in the balance

He’s not that type. lots of players across the league that don’t play that way. I just find it kind of redundant to focus on that ya know? Like the guy is crucified every game by so many ppl, no need to add on another reason that is solely based in perception of what a hockey player should be, rather than what individually some are and some aren’t. I agree with you wholeheartedly, but it’s not BB6’s game and that’s just simply the player he is. Passive.

But he’s also not that type of player. Ppl need to accept that. I’d like to see everyone stand up for each other but it’s just not in the wheelhouse of some players. Is it expected that QH go and run someone over in retaliation? Of course not! BB6 needs to improve his game sure, but he’s not a grinder or grit player, so kind of unfair to expect him to be one. Just better he finds another team that can make up for some of what he doesn’t bring to the table.
