  1. I think given where this team is, the expectation and all money spent hand over fist for players and coaches, very little is out of the question in terms of trying to motivate the players. Scratching BB6 should have brought about some emotion from the others. Problem is, it’s a recurring issue that just can’t seem to be solved. Last acts of a desperate coach but to be expected really.
  2. it’s also likely that teams have shied away from BB6 because they may be concerned about his mental makeup after going through the difficult loss of his father. His contract definitely makes him a hard sell, but affording other teams an opportunity to talk with the player directly does go a long way to potentially answering any questions or creating dialogue that another GM may want to have if previously reluctant. If I was a potentially interested GM I’d want to hear directly from BB myself to get a sense of his focus/ensure his heart is still in the game before I seriously discuss any trade potential at all.
  3. Agents have their own relationships with particular GMs. A different approach in how the player is presented/pitched is worth exploring
  4. Let’s start with Alf vs Fin in a deathmatch for who gets to be mascot next season.
  5. The thing to realize is that he’s a player that has immediate chemistry with our core, franchise forward. imho, you spend a little bit if you have to to lock Kuz up. If this becomes regular pace for both EP and Kuz as linemates, then you’ve done your best to accommodate EP through what might be a couple lean years, and afford a chance to convince him to re-sign. If you can blow up this team whilst still maintaining a very threatening top line, you’ve immediately accelerated the rebuild enough to at least encourage our top stars to consider continuing on with this club in the future
  6. Yeah, for sure, but I’m not taking on Dumba as permanent fixture for this club. I’m taking him on to facilitate moving Brock and his deal, and then using Dumba to facilitate another deal at the deadline which might fetch a really good return. Gotta really manage assets now and accumulate however possible.
  7. Dumba probably has a little bit more value than BB6 atm, BUT is on an expiring contract and also has M-NTC. That said, head also an alternate captain for MIN so I would say he has more value to MIN than he might on the standard market. he’s also RHD though. Tough call there.
  8. Haha I beat you to it in the other thread (so might as well continue)! Dumba on last year of his deal and UFA at end of season… Move BB6 for him now and shoot out Dumba at deadline…?
  9. Do we see the oft-bandied about Dumba deal finally materialize? Dumba on last year of his deal. Maybe trade BB6 straight up now and then move Dumba at deadline? Sad to see Brock go, given all that he’s gone through, but this is an exciting option for this club and overdue.
  10. *not sure if it’s worth a new topic from the Boeser contract thread but started one anyway. Per Elliotte Friedman on HNIC tonight: the Canucks have given permission to Brock Boeser’s management to discuss trade opportunities with other teams. HUGE news if true.

  12. Well, in a roundabout way you could use some of Dickinson's money to buy Kuzmenko for a season. And a good gamble too because if he is indeed sold at the deadline, at this pace he will fetch us a 1st. PA/JR may have paid 1.8mill (including bonus) to buy a first round pick. That's pretty F'n good asset management if it works out.
  13. Per Elliotte Friedman: Alex Formenton Ineligible For Rest Of Season December 1st, 2022 at 4:00pm CST The NHL’s deadline for clubs to sign restricted free agents to contracts that would allow them to play in the 2022-23 season has now passed. Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet confirmed that there has been no contract signed, meaning Ottawa Senators forward Alex Formenton is now ineligible to play in the rest of this NHL season. Per Postmedia’s Bruce Garrioch, the Senators have been trying to find a trade for Formenton but were unable to finalize a deal before this deadline passed. Frank Seravalli of Daily Faceoff reported that the Senators’ asking price for Formenton was a second-round pick, and it appears that no team was willing to meet that asking price in order to acquire Formenton before the 4PM CDT deadline. On paper, Formenton’s restricted free agency once seemed straightforward. After scoring 18 goals and 32 points last year, the speedy 23-year-old forward looked set to either earn a moderate bridge contract or perhaps even be a candidate for a long-term extension. But Formenton’s status has become unclear due to potentially significant off-ice complications. Speculation has continued to surface regarding Formenton’s role in the Hockey Canada World Junior 2018 sexual assault investigation, for which he is one of few players to not release a statement denying involvement. While TSN’s Darren Dreger has reported that the NHL’s investigation is “substantially complete,” the league did not release its findings before today’s deadline, which may have contributed to the Formenton’s uncertain current status. With the deadline now passed, it seems that Formenton’s only choice regarding his NHL future is to wait until there is more certainty in the matters that NHL clubs are reportedly concerned about. In the meantime, the Senators will retain Formenton’s rights as a restricted free agent.
  14. Ahh thanks, was looking at capfriendly and obviously suffering from dementia at the same time. sorry Timo, pass
  15. *caveat is that if ownership/mgmt end up deciding to again remain with this core. in essence you’d be locking up a top 6, which ultimately pushes out some tradable pieces and salary in BB6 and Garly. If you include Myers out, that’s 17.4 million (and a 5mill bonus do Myers) to finally pursue a top flight Dman. the $$ increases to Bo and Kuz are afforded by moving out expensive bit players (for their role/TOI) in Pearson, etc, and perhaps moving out the salary of other redundancies on D. it’s entirely doable. I prefer a rebuild, but this affords the continual push this ownership group seems to want to pursue.
  16. How? Hogz shifts down into lower 6. Both EP’s and Bo’s lines are complete. We utilize what we have to either establish a tertiary scoring/2 way line and a dominant checking line. the redundancies will be distilled from that and then we have our trade block established and prepared for the deadline (barring injury) where we absolutely have to be capitalize this year.
  17. To a degree it’s a lateral move, but one the defines the top 6 without the constant juggling of where trying to fit BB6 and Garland. I think Garland + Boner maybe gets the conversation going. Again, need to keep as many D prospects as possible and to accumulate that as well. I don’t know, just think we should have a semi-permanent top 6 and then adjust the bottom 6 as necessary to eliminate redundancy and identify the types of players we do need in that space. We already know the cost of a top 2-4 Dman, so that can be addressed in offseason if need be. At very least, with the glut of redundancy we have at F and now D, we should be able to ascertain who are the definite pieces to sell and look to exchange quantity for some quality. hence this proposal.
  18. Should the team continue trending upwards and it looks as though another Hail Mary wildcard spot is the direction this team decides to take again AND, (major rationale for this proposal), if they re-sign Bo, thoughts on?: Garland and a solid prospect for Meier Saves SJ some cap space, brings in a tangible F (but lesser replacement in Garland who is RW while Meier is LW) adds a decent prospect to their depth pool, essentially becoming a step forward in the club’s reconstruction. This would solidify current top 6 if Hogz can’t maintain on the Horvat line. If palatable, who is the prospect we would have to deal? Is Garland and a prospect even enough considering Meier is only 26, just locked in at a decent contract (6mill/4 years), and has maintained as a PPG player since last season. That’s said, he’s also due a signing bonus each year from 3 mill down to 2 mill per. That makes him pricey, so is a deal for him worth it? The other problem is this doesn’t address D at all and trading out F for D should be the focus. I also think if you complete and identify your top 6, then it immediately frees up some other assets towards D deals, including Boeser, Hogs, Pearson, etc… Read speculation that Meier will be dealt for a bit less than what Debrincat fetched, so perhaps this offer isn’t enough. Anyway, thoughts?
  19. I think it would take a Garland or Boeser. The only caveat to what Kypreos is saying though is that NSH is just one potential dman injury away from actually really needing Fabbro in their lineup. Think it's a long shot but worth checking in if true.
  20. per Nick Kypreos https://www.thestar.com/sports/leafs/opinion/2022/11/24/with-rielly-out-maple-leafs-would-be-wise-to-do-some-early-christmas-window-shopping-whos-worth-a-call.html IIRC a few folks on this forum really like the idea of Fabbro in a Nux jersey, so... Predators Believed To Be Open To Trading A Defenseman NOVEMBER 26, 2022 AT 2:57 PM CDT | BY BRIAN LA ROSE It has been a bit of a tough start to the season for the Predators. While they sit fourth in the Central entering today’s action, they’re among the lowest-scoring teams in the league, ranking 29th in goals scored at the moment. With that in mind, they may have to look outside the organization to try to add some scoring help. One possible option is to move a defenseman and in his latest column for the Toronto Star, Sportsnet’s Nick Kypreos reports that Nashville GM David Poile would like to move a defenseman, suggesting that Dante Fabbro could be had for the right price. The 24-year-old locked down a regular role in 2019-20, logging over 19 minutes a game and it looked as if the Predators had found yet another quality young defender that they could mold into a core piece. However, he hasn’t really progressed much since then. His playing time continued to hover around the 19-minute mark until this season as it’s down to just 16 minutes a night while he has just four assists in 19 games. While he’s still holding down a regular role, his usage has dipped to that of a number six defenseman which, at a $2.4MM price tag, is a bit pricey for that spot on the depth chart. Notably, Fabbro will be owed a qualifying offer this summer at that same price point while also being arbitration-eligible and if he rides out the season in the role he has now, he could very well be a non-tender candidate in the summer. Accordingly, moving him now might make sense. Among Nashville’s other defenders, it’s safe to say that Roman Josi, Mattias Ekholm, and Ryan McDonagh aren’t going anywhere. Jeremy Lauzon has three years remaining after this one on his deal at a $2MM AAV which could be intriguing to some teams if they feel he can be more than a third-pairing option while Alexandre Carrier has taken a step back this season after a breakout 30-point campaign last year. Veteran Mark Borowiecki is currently injured so he’s unlikely to move either. That makes Fabbro the logical choice to move if Poile decides that he wants to move a defender and while his trade value has undoubtedly dipped compared to what it would have been a few years ago, it’s also possible that it drops even further if they get to the offseason with him being questionable to be given his qualifying offer. If they feel that Jordan Gross(who presently is with AHL Milwaukee but has two goals in three NHL games this season) can fill a similar role that Fabbro is now, Fabbro certainly could be an interesting addition to the trade market in the coming weeks.
