  1. Thoughts on last night: That was so pathetic, it was funny. I generally pause the game so I don't have to watch commercials. Now I pause so I can fast forward through the 3rd period. I shouldn't have taken my blood pressure during the 2nd period. Blow this team (?) up.
  2. Martin is so slow side to side. He watches the puck, then it's 'oh yeah, I should get over there'. Time to ride Delia. With all those scouts in the stands, Boeser needed to step up, and he was flat all morning. Good show by Petery!
  3. Tocchet's got the guys playing good, tight checking hockey. The Isles 23 turnovers weren't just sloppy play. Canucks forwards particularly were on the puck all night and in the right place at the right time. Petey, damn he's fun to watch, as is Hughes. Boeser has played well the past 3 games because he knows if he's to get a chance to live up to his contract and be someone looked up to, it's now or never. Miller was a beast tonight. Bear was our best D tonight and has been the last few games. As much as I like Kuz, I'm glad his minutes are cut back until he learns better defense. Our 3rd and 4th lines are playing well for a bunch of AHLers. Tocchet's got the team playing with some pride. I'll always like Bo as a person, but I'm so happy his soft, lazy defense style is gone. Same with Boudreau. Great guy, but this team needs some hard nose coaching to get them turned around. I'm looking forward to a further teardown and more young picks and prospects.
  4. I think the Bo trade will work out well. I'd have been prepared to take less. Going back to last year, I was so tired of his mediocre effort. Sure, he scored lots of goals, but his effort level was soft and uninspiring, all while he's supposed to be the team leader. If it were not for the offensive power of the Canucks forwards, there is no way he'd have 30 goals this year, and yes, I will change my tune if he keeps up his point streak in New York. I'll be pleasantly surprised, because I still think he's a nice guy and I'd like to see him succeed. I will probably go along with most of the moves this management team makes because I'm all for tearing things down and starting fresh with the few indispensable players we have. I hope management is on the same page as am I, that it's absolutely necessary to build 'a team' because I don't think we've had that. We've had a lot of really good players with great potential, but I haven't thought they've acted like a team, but rather a lot of really good players playing to pad their stats and cash in. I put a lot of that on Bo, but also mediocre, soft coaches and management that failed to bring together the right personalities. I don't believe the talk that Rutherford wants out right now, although he might if he is unsuccessful putting together a team for the future. So far, if all the rumours are right, I think he and Allvin are moving in the right direction. Hiring Tocchet, a no nonsense coach, was a good start. Letting Bo go was the right move, but not sure about the Miller and Boeser signings. Mistakes that I hope they learn from. I'm so tired of what has been and am looking forward to a different version of my Canucks.
  5. It's exactly what JR said he was going to do, picking up underperforming players that can hopefully be improved. Beauvillier is that, and Raty probably as well. And they got a 1st rounder. I like the move cause I've been looking forward to Bo being gone since mid last season. At least one RD will come soon.
  6. Yeah, there are varying levels of severity. I hiked, skied and showshoed for almost 2 years before it got so bad I absolutely needed surgery. I can see Mik gritting it out, but I ain't that tough.
  7. Trade Bo now!! His value is going down and his play is borderline bad.
  8. Jay Janower comparing him to Travis Green style and Tocc referring to having conversations with Travis. Please tell me we're not going back there.
  9. In fact, when it's said that people change, it is often exactly their level of integrity and moral values that change. There aren't too many of us who can say we've never made a big mistake from which we've learned valuable lessons. Being caught with your hand in the cookie jar type of embarrassments is going to change a person; most for the good. I'll definitely reserve judgement for right now.
  10. It's going to be interesting to see how the players respond now. They've admitted (some have) that they didn't play well enough for BB. And they've gotten all emotional around his departure. Now it's time to suck it up and respond like strong, mature individuals and play for their new coaches as they're being instructed to. No question Bruce was part of the problem, but with the exception of a few, the players played a bigger part. I look forward to the message being sent from the trade deadline through the summer, and I'm hoping we end up with 5 or 6 new, young guys who have something to prove. I believe the Tocchet hire is based in part on having a positive effect on the new guys because there's no changing the few current inept players.
  11. With his record, he's obviously a good coach, and yeah, he brought the city together. He didn't bring the team together, and I'm not sure anybody could with the roster we have. It's gonna be a hard retool to get rid of, and bring in, the right players to make this feel like a team that works together for each other. It's a bit of a mess.
  12. I'm looking forward to the end of the management/coach fiasco. I really like Bruce as a player's coach, and believe there are teams and years where his style is most successful. His tenure with the Canucks didn't give him one of those teams. A coach has basically two assignments; establish good systems, and get the most out of your players. I don't think he did either remarkably well, but I also believe that rather than having a 'team' to work with, he had a bunch of fair to good to very good players that don't gel as a team. Some of that I put on Horvat. Just like I think BB is too soft on the players, I also think Horvat is too soft/not the right guy for this team. I also have little respect for his extra effort this year, just because it's a contract year. So many times last year I was so pissed at his floating. BB is obviously gone, and I hope, for a decent return, Horvat goes as well. Then take the A away from OEL and make QH and EP the assistants. They have a lot to learn as leaders, but I believe they would both rise to the challenge. Appoint a Captain later. JR and Alvine have made some mistakes, but given what they had to work with, players and cap, they've also made some good moves. I disagree with how JR has handled the coaching issue, but I also blame the leak he has in the room that has had Friedman et al sensationalizing the whole thing. The media has made this way bigger than it needed to be. It was the right thing for management to secure another coach before they got rid of the current one. Sure, they could have promoted one of the assistants on an interim basis, but if you have no faith in them either, why would you do that? Over the years, when I knew I was letting a senior manager go, I always ensured I was looking for who I considered to be a better replacement for who my team of employees was at the time, hoping the new guy or gal would get better production from them. JR/PA have done that. JRs media methodology was poor, but the media's unrelenting attention made it worse. I don't know a lot about Tocchet, but I'm hoping, because I love the Canucks, he's the right guy with the right system, for this team at this time. Going into the trade deadline and by the end of summer we'll know if management has the smarts and the balls to make the moves necessary to make us true contenders some time over the next 3 years as JR suggests is possible.
  13. I'll never be anything but a Canucks fan, but I love to watch great players, and Stamko is one of those. I would have cheered also.
  14. With the exception of 2/3 of the 1st period, I liked this game. Not everyone, but most played hard enough to win. Martin was really bad and Elliot was really good (and lucky). Our defense, especially in the 1st, was pathetic, and a lot of that is on Yeo. No question we're lacking a couple of good defensemen, but the system, particularly with the defensive play of our forwards, is severely lacking. It's also on Boudreau, who I generally like, but feel he's not the coach for this team. This is a team with a number of players who need a kick in the ass and BBs not enough of an a##hole to do that. Maybe Tocchet is, who knows. I believe JR (and maybe Alvine) has a pretty good sense of what needs to be done for a soft rebuild, or retool as he calls it. He's made a few mistakes (Miller), but he's also made some good moves (Bear, Kuzmenko, Mikheyev) and once he's able to make those reclamation trades he talks about, the retool will begin, and if he gets it right, we'll all be back to being happier with our team. Ever hopeful fan.
  15. I disagree. JR has a GM and several AGMs who the medical staff report directly to. If the medical staff failed Pearson, that's one thing, but I suspect, if Rutherford really didn't know, then the chain of command is not reporting up as they should be. Quinn may be right; it's possible the medical staff failed, and if they did, shit should hit the fan.
  16. Of course I'd love to see a Bedard quality forward with the Canucks, but scoring is not our problem. Defense, holy f*&#. And I think we have at least adequate defensemen, excepting those two old farts (not meaning Schenn). We obviously don't have coaching that can make the entire team understand how to stop the other team from so easily scoring goals. Where the hell is our defense coaching? Pathetic!
  17. I'm really hoping management is just going to blow this team up and has the smarts to create a rebuild that we can all get excited about as they grow. I just hope Petey sticks around to lead the charge.
  18. I've been watching for 52 years and this is the 1st year I pause and fast forward so I don't have to watch the whole s#*t show. Mind you, it's only been a few years that we've had the capacity to pause/record. How did I handle all those other years of crap hockey?

  20. Thanks for this. It leaves me thinking we have too many Americans. Based on passionate play, maybe we should target a few more Chechens and Slovaks.
  21. I love the World Juniors. Again they won gold, which suggests, again, Canadian players are generally the best; lots of skill, good defense and lots of grit. It makes me wonder if part of our problem is that we don't target enough Canadians. Somebody on here must know how many Canadians we have vs other countries of origin. I know we have a lot of Americans and their lack of passion in the World Juniors lost them a chance at gold. And their babyish attitude when they lost to Canada vs that of Slovakia and Czechia said something about who they are.
  22. I always love the WJC, but this year has been pretty special hockey with the likes of Bedard, Milic, Stankoven, Roy, Zellweger, etc. So much more entertaining than Canucks hockey right now.
