  1. Man hurts to see this guy go. Was one of the few that always showed up to battle for us. Wish him the best!
  2. It most likely will happen this way, and only way I see this not happening is if Miller indicates he isn't re-signing with us.
  3. I believe it's because a lot of us value Motte far more than a 4th. Regardless what the market price is for a player like him, his contribution to our team and his chemistry with Lam and Highmore means much more than getting a low pick back. He was one of the very few players that provided consistent effort any given night, and that seems to be, unfortunately, such a rare quality on our team. Regardless, if Motte made it clear he isn't returning next year, it is what it is. At least we got value back. If this was purely for the purpose of making cap space to overpay someone, then it's an issue.
  4. Relax a bit, it was just a simple joke with how many "calls" we have been receiving for most of our top players and nothing happened. I never was a pro Garland-trader unless we had the right deal coming back.
  5. I see this as a confirmation that nothing has changed from the Benning era. We're always going to re-tool on the fly to make the playoffs year-in, year-out. An experiment we have been living for almost a decade, with nothing but mediocrity to show for. Does JR have a better resume for the task? Absolutely. However, he had Crosby and Malkin to work with, and as good as Miller and EP are, they are nowhere near that caliber of talent. I really hope the above is not the scenario, and the management had clear indication from Motte that he did not intend to re-sign with the Canucks. If that is the case, then I guess we can't complain for getting something back... but my guts say the above scenario is more likely.
  6. I think even this is speculation. At the end of the day, no one knows what we were offered for Miller or any other players. Management could have just been firm on attempting to re-sign Miller.
  7. Absolutely disgusting. Would have rather kept Motte. Only way this makes sense is if Motte indicated he is absolutely leaving this organization. Then it makes you wonder what that spells out for the other upcoming players like Miller.
  8. I really hope we re-sign Motte. Best checking line we've had in years... tenacity, consistency, and chemistry... something I can't say for the rest of our line-up...
  9. Not really. That is a very big facade. We have too much anchor to make any big changes to get on par with the top dogs, nor do we have enough future to mortgage for a proper retool, nor do we have a strong enough core to say &^@# it and go all in the next 2 years. Yes, we have some very good core to build around, but we are still 2 to 3 years away, minimum. We can absolutely be patient and let our players reach that point, while naturally letting the bad contracts expire. We can trade current assets that does not fit that timeline to bolster our lineup when we're ready to compete. However, as fickle as this fan base is, there is always a demand for playoff hockey year in year out. We continously sacrifice stability of our future for a mediocre product that may or may not work now. If we're real fans of the team, what's 2 or 3 years of patience? It is time to stop building a team to clinch a playoff birth and properly build a team that can actually win it all, especially because we have the right core to do so. Stop mortgaging our future for mediocrity.
  10. This team can compete for a playoff clinch, but it isn't built as a cup contender. There is a very big difference between the two. Setting ourselves up for 2-3 years down the road, and retooling so we can try to make the playoffs every year also has a vast difference. We've seen what the latter does for the past decade, how much more do we need to experiment?
  11. Oh we get it. We've lived it many years and JR was never a rebuild guy. Aquaman has always been a retool guy. Gravy for the playoffs, n'am saying? That still doesn't mean we can't be rightfully demanding a change for the result we have witnessed for almost a decade now.
  12. Do your job JR, sorry but retool ain't cutting it with this group.
  13. No, and not on the basis that such offer doesn't exist, but from today's lateral move while saving a little cap space, it most likely means Management / Ownership wants to retool rather than properly rebuild... seen this story a million times, and guess we're right back at it, just with a different guy executing Aqua's vision. Looks like Vancouver will do everything to re-sign Miller this off-season. Only way I see Miller traded is if he clearly informs Management this summer he isn't coming back.
  14. Brace yourselves boys and gals, a new influx of pro traders incoming!
  15. Anyone got anymore of those Futures Consideration.
  16. Good, tell Miller to keep it up. We can't afford him getting injured before Monday.
  17. Maybe JR secretly told the team to ensure they stamp through Frank's thick head that we're sellers this deadline.
  18. So we trade our assets to rid our anchors. Come off season we overpay for free agents since there is no other incentives for them to join a rebuilding team. Those contracts soon become anchors and we pay our future picks to rid of them. Am I doing this right?
  19. Geezus... how many picks are we throwing out on Monday? Do we even have enough?
  20. Actually I admit I was wrong and you were right this whole time. With today's Canucks disgusting display, I'm fully on-board with your analogy. Let's hope JT Miller follows Kesler's footsteps.
