  1. I don't think JR and Alvin have extra chromosome like the TO people, no worries.
  2. I can see EP challenging that easily if he continues improving, and Demko as well if he keeps this dominance up. Both will be signing at higher max cap so I don't see that 9M, if JT signs to that, holding the crown position all that long.
  3. Congrats to little Joe, what a phenomenal player and career. Ovie and him are the rare breeds.
  4. People love to have their cake and eat it too. I've been reading the CDC board for a while, and that is the re-occurring theme as people care too much to be 'right' on this board.
  5. Sure. Once again, I'm not trying to judge you based on your numbers, or anyone's for that matter. It is just an opinion after all. So for you, Miller is worth 9M of cap until 37, and you would happily provide him that. I say 9.5 x 7 probably would be the better choice for us given that scenario if Miller provided us the freedom to choose, but I digress. At least you agree he won't be coming at anything below 9 Million, and especially not with the 5-6 years terms people are suggesting. In that case, it just becomes a matter of what everyone's comfort zone is with Miller's cap hit and terms, because some will start arguing they'd rather not have Miller at that price tag for that many years and that is the question we should really be discussing.
  6. Ok! Well let's play a hypothetical game. Let's say we make the playoffs and make some noise. Miller is more inclined to sign with the team, but I still don't think he gives us a discount. I think at that point, it just means he is willing to sign an extension in the upcoming off-season, without testing the UFA market, at what he believes would be a fair market value next year. Even that would provide the Canucks a big advantage knowing they can plan out the 2022-2023 season. Now, at what point do we say it is too much for Miller? I believe even if he gives us a sweat deal, we're still looking at minimum something like 9.25M x 7 with NMC, knowing full well he could fetch around double digits in an open market with similar terms.
  7. Double edge sword, which also could bring the worst outcome. Team is comfortably in a playoff spot next trade deadline, Miller still does not have any contract. Now we're in a position to gamble. If we don't win it all next year, which there is an extremely low chance barring any major change this summer, we now face losing Miller in Free Agency with nothing to show for... for few playoff games. Once again, it is all speculations until it happens, and I mean for both side of the arguments a la "Keep Miller" / "Trade Miller". However, I don't see much reason for Miller to give the Canucks any discount over what he could get in the open market. I've stated this before, but this is Miller's first and last money contract. He will want to see what the open market has for him, and once he is there, it really does not favor us. With the way he is playing, all signs indicate he is going to get paid big, and with hefty terms which he will want.
  8. I don't think anyone is advocating he wants to leave. We're simply stating this has been said and done before, and players have left. Hockey players are professionals, well most... and they handle the situations professionally, until the situation isn't. We shouldn't put any emphasis into it, unless there are more concrete evidence suggesting the player has good reasons to stay, and even then, we are simply putting a higher probability on one outcome than the other. As Management, they should still assess both situations and plan accordingly.
  9. I don't think we're close to contending. We're a team that could make the playoffs convincingly under Bruce, but to win it all in the playoffs, we need another gear, and we aren't there yet, especially on the defensive end. That is a lot of deadweight, some even expensive, and it is going to take a lot of sweeteners for us to rid of them. We're going to be throwing our future out, again, which we really can't afford to do so. We can either buyout, or let the bad contracts run its course, while properly building and solidifying from within.
  10. Not giving up on Bo, nor am I actively advocating for his trade. Just stating if management wants to keep Miller, Bo is the likely candidate out, and it would justify it enough for me to be ok with it. I like Bo as a player, not taking anything away from him.
  11. Miller is playing out of his mind, and could have very well played himself out of this trade deadline as his price is probably at an all time high. If any team is willing to pay the price this year, it will be a hell of a payday for us. That being said, it isn't all rainbows and butterflies for us as well. His recent play means his signing value is going higher. He is definitely playing himself into double digits, 7+ years with NMC. Yes, he will definitely get that offered by some teams in the open market, and deservingly so, so we should be fully ready for that if we want to keep Miller moving forward. No way in hell he is signing the "7M 5 years" deal some are suggesting just so they can pump their "keep Miller" narrative. His level of play, and his next contract value are correlated, and we've got to keep our expectation realistic.
  12. I'm not opposed to moving Bo, but if we feel Bo is falling out of favour with the management, and for obvious reasons, other teams are also noticing it and aren't going to provide a great offer. I think Bo could still bring in a fair haul, however it won't be a "great" offer. We'll need prospect and picks only to clear out the cap, since trading Bo means management has decided to re-sign Miller... which in this case, it most likely won't happen until summer or next deadline, where management has already agreed with Miller camp on the terms of the extension.
  13. I doubt he signs anything less than 7 years. This will be his first and last money contract.
  14. We're looking at least 9M x 8Y for Canadian cities with NMC. He is our best forward, and a top 20 in the league. He is also a coveted PWF in his prime with leadership skill is he not? So yes, he will get paid like one.
  15. I don't believe anyone said he is guaranteed to leave. We are stating there is a high chance he may not re-sign with us as he is entering a golden opportunity to test the market as an UFA in his prime, and there is nothing that suggests he has deep ties to Vancouver to favor us in an open market. He most likely will, and rightfully so for all his hard work, entertain all the offers coming his way from different teams, and make his decision based on amount, terms, security, location, etc... Miller is a professional. Even if he wants to leave, he will show appreciation for his current team until the final minute of his contract. Whether he wants to leave or not, we do not know. The problem is, that final minute is approaching, and the longer we hold on to Miller, the more risk we take on our end. Hence, we're only suggesting that, it probably makes the most sense to get the right value for Miller when we have the opportunity, and when we have the position of power to make the right decisions. It certainly does not look like we are cup contenders (playoff clinchers maybe) anytime soon, and with Miller's contract terminating in a year and half, the uncertainty of him re-signing with us, Canucks management having the freedom to entertain offers from all teams (no NMC thank god), and with Miller having peak value, maximizing our return asset should be seriously considered at this TDL. We do not want to trade Miller for scraps, no one has suggested that. Most of us are arguing against other people who believe we should hold onto Miller at all cost because he is currently our best player.
  16. What is more ironic is those posters are ones that fight to keep Miller as they believe he is irreplaceable and is a premier power forward in his prime who is a fantastic leader. I mean, we don't disagree, but if that is who Miller is, he certainly ain't signing for that. I get people are emotionally attached and doesn't want to assess the situation realistically as it unfavors their narrative, but hey... you gotta face reality at some point.
  17. It is good to state opinions and lead a rational debate on the forum, but now you're attacking me while speaking for my thoughts? Lawl
  18. I never brought up Naslund, nor an ideal image of a captain... not sure where you got that idea. I said other factors probably, and should precede Miller's decision on his next team rather than a C on his jersey.
  19. Hahaha... I think all fan base are guilty of those unfortunate... well, fans.
  20. More worried about an injury that could put him into IR. As you have said, given his history, he has remained fairly healthy. I guess I'm looking at this from a probability perspective... if it hasn't happened, it may be due, especially with the heavy and competitive style he plays, and we love. He also isn't getting physically younger. With Miller's recent success, I honestly don't think our management would say anything else but positives for Miller. Even if there was uncertainty, why publicly devalue your player, and bring down team morale, by saying anything else but assuring the media this is our guy, which also translates to if you want him, pay up. I think we're both on the same boat in that we want proper value for Miller. We just disagree on timing.
  21. Captaincy is really overplayed here. Can it be a factor playing into someone's willingness to sign with a team? Sure. But has Miller ever came out stating so? No. Miller is a natural leader and I understand why many think giving him a C would favor into a re-signing, however some leaders also prefer playing the role from the passenger seat rather than at the very front. Of course, even this is speculation, just like some assuming Miller wants the C to begin with. Even if he did, does he want to captain for the Canucks? That is also a separate question. What provides the stronger argument to where he signs will be the term of his new contract, as well as where he plans to live with his family. He has a beautiful family and I'm sure they are his priority. The money, long term security, and his and his family's location desire probably has a far bigger factor than a letter on his shirt. Furthermore, we know JT is a competitor, and we can see his desire to win. Does he think the Canucks has a good chance to win it all? Or does he believe another team will offer him a better chance? Who knows what he is thinking, but I feel the C may only come into play if the other aforementioned factors align first.
  22. I understand the question you're imposing, and it is a valid question. However, a lot of external factors can alter the value as well. How is his production going to be next year (this can be neutral as it can go both ways, but it definitely has a higher chance of declining than inclining much more than his current value). What about injuries? We also have to start worrying if our management team has the confidence to re-sign him in few months (assuming we have not yet signed him at the next TDL). If time becomes critical and we get less confident he will sign with us, other teams will leverage that to their advantage. Miller will be the one with the complete power the closer it gets his UFA. We then become the desperate team rather than trading from a point of power (like now). This is something we throw around a lot in our forum as well: "why pay for a player when we can wait few months and sign him for free?" Assuming the best case scenario where we retain him until we know for sure he is testing the UFA market, is it possible Miller returns the same haul this or the next deadline? Sure, and none of us will know for sure unless someone has a Stargate in their bedroom. However, there are far more factors that will put us at a disadvantage the longer we hold onto Miller, and management needs to make decisions based on the probabilities that favor us the most. Losing Miller for nothing will set this team back 10 years, and I am sure no one wants that scenario, unless they are a lames or coilers fan in disguise.
  23. The Miller trade wagon isn't suggesting we will replace Miller with our haul, not at least for the foreseeable future. We all agree Miller is currently our best forward as well. However, we see a large threat looming when Miller's contract expires, and that is him walking out with us having nothing to show for. We have seen this story many and recently, even with players that clearly would have had far more tangible and intangible ties to this city. Yes, some may have been due to poor management from the previous group, however it always takes 2 to dance, and there really is no real sign indicating Miller wanting to stay. All we have received from him are professional comments where he will always play to his best in the given environment. He is a true professional and we admire him for that. Again, no one is suggesting Miller hates the city and wants out ASAP. However, even if we had a small chance, what is the premium we have to pay and how is that going to impact us with our team cap structure, which correlates to team composition? As we all agree, Miller is a premium forward and this will be his chance to really cash in, and rightfully so, on all his hard work and accomplishments throughout his career so far. It almost is guaranteed he will want to test the UFA market. This imposes far too much risk for us. In this scenario where we lose Miller for nothing, then there is a high chance we end up splurging on another 6 million dollar LE to make up for our loss and our vicious cycle of mediocrity continues. The point being made, we see higher probability of success for our team in cashing Miller out for future vs retaining him for a hope to clinch a playoff spot when we're clearly not yet ready to contend this or the next year. If that is the case, then we'd rather do it before this TDL so we maximize the value. However, we're also not agreeing to trade him for scraps for the sake of fulfilling a trade lust. We just believe, as we all agree on his value, that the right deals will be offered and we should take it.
