I'm not sure how picking two random years from 20-30 years ago seems a fair way to judge GMJB's success at the draft table.
Zero players in the system drafted outside of the first two rounds. One of the shallowest prospect pools in the league
Completely botched a 5th and 6th overall selections which is hard to do nowadays. Look at the 2014 draft, hardly any misses in the first round and we were one of them. 2016 same thing, the only teams to miss on their early first round picks that year were Van, Bufflalo and Ottawa, 3 of the worst teams of the last 8 years, go figure.
4/6 success rate in the first round. 66%. That's counting Podkolzin. Both those misses were top 10 picks, that's hard to do.
Not counting Hoglander as a success because of his dreadful season and not counting Klimovich because it's too early. We're 1/5 with our 2nd round selections. 20%
Lol honestly it's mindboggling anyone can say his drafting has been good. It's been average at absolute best. Mix that with bad trading and horrible FA signings it was a torturous 8 years.
