[Proposal] Van - Pitt - Non Miller!

Marino is 4.4 mil Kapanen is 3.2 right now but an RFA. Can't see him getting much more as he's been inconsistent but lets say 4 mil aav total 8.4 mil aav Myers is 6 mil aav Garland is 4.95 mil aav total is 10.95 So we save about 2.5 mil Not as much but still a savings. If we can find a way to move out Dickenson, Poolman, we will be in a solid position cap wise -
[Rumour] Bo Horvat Trade/Contract Talks
NucknAsia replied to HOFsedins's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
I am / was on the same train as you re Bo/Miller. But, as I think about it more I feel like JR has a Lamaello aspect to his approach, re cap. He wants an internal cap to ensure he can address other needs. He seems to come from the school of we need players who are willing to take discounts so we can fill out the roster with more depth, and if you're going to pay a player alot, he has to be young a star and willing to commit long term. The issue with Miller is, he won't take a discount (rightly so, he's earned the right not to), he's not young anymore, and arguably, if you can use that 9 mil to pay a younger RD, 3C, winger with other cap moves, we are likely further ahead. I played competitive sports growing up, so I cannot discount the heart aspect of Miller vs Bo. Love Bo, but Miller is the emotional engine, and it is a HUGE risk to be removing that from a team that clearly did not react well to losing Tanev and Markstrom. That being said, perhaps its time for Bo and Petey to stop leading from behind.... I'm with you but also get the 'organizational perspective' -

I'd be happy with that. Frees up Meyer's cap. -
Yep but luck was indeed involved. You get a young, perennial Norris candidate dman for free, a 4th round goalie turns into a star, and the few years you suck you're picking top 4 repeatedly. You can have the best laid plans to right a franchise, but without luck like that its hard to do it fast. They got alot of luck

If they nullify the contract he loses the pay. Because he's on LTIR because of a hockey injury, insurance pays his contract out at full value. This is the same reason you see players like Horton, Savard, Kesler, not 'officially retire' until their contracts ended, despite no longer playing. It has no bearing on the Canucks cash wise as insurance pays him, and our cap gets his contract AAV back opening day. So its better for all around other than the insurance company, but that's why player insurance is there.

I hope its us personally. If we don't move up, he's the most talented player available at 15 for certain. We just have to wait but we will have to wait regardless for whomever we pick. And in fact, in 2-3 years as Petey, Quinn, the core starts challenging, you want some young offense on ELC's to come in and add scoring depth for cheap. It allow us to go get UFA vets (like a vet RD at that time) to round out the team.

[Proposal] Vancouver-Montreal Trade

Go to Savard's IG Dude is on the Jake Virtanen diet...he's fat....he's also 31. I don't see how he's an upgrade for us. And you're giving up Myers and Rathbone? Nah bro Pass -
And this bolded part is exactly why they need a Miller to come in and help guide the way. To stop the edmonton busteroo suckage dilemma, that's my point. They have all the pieces now, but they don't have the veteran leadership. Same issue Edmonton faced. If they allow it to continue, they will end up the same way.

[Proposal] Van - Pitt - Non Miller!

I think the swap of Garland/ Kappanen is two fold One, its to improve our team D, which is needed, and size. I really like Garland but think Kapanen is a better fit assuming we keep Boeser, and assuming that Podz moves up the roster. We have a hole on line 3 for a player that can contribute from that spot. Garland seems to have to be with top end players to be performing. Love him but I think he's expendible to improve other areas. Perhaps it should be for a 3c, but I do think he's someone who can be offered to help us fill voids. He's also part of the incentive to get Marino. I also have read as you mentioned, so maybe we can actually get him on the cheap, which would be great. But assuming we can't, part of Garland is really paying for Marino. -
discussions 'over coffee' are always had....easy ways around that

Great deflection What I showed was their core. Their core is way stronger than ours. The 8 players in their 23ish and under is alot more talented than our players of that age. And all of those players are in the NHL producing. Please list 8 NHL players on the Canucks 23 or under who have performed better than those 8 Listed on NJ Please list 3 non NHL prospects on the Canucks 23 or under who have star potential Their 3 players who are not in the NHL are all star potential players - we have NOTHING that compares to that The two players who are 27/28 respectively are part of the core. Not the young core but the core and show as a GROUP they: are much younger than us on the whole are much more talented on the whole (more depth and more proven nhl players at 23 years old) have a stronger core that is prepared now to go on cup runs with the right tweaks have multiple elite prospects coming still (3 or more) the fact you are arguing that NJ is not miles ahead of us is hilarious. You think our core is equivalent or better? Really? JR disagrees.

Bratt - 23 Hirchier -23 Hughes - under 23 Zacha - 25 close enough Mercer -20 Sharangovich -23 Mcleod - 24 close enough Bovquist -23 Excludes Hughes (D) - under 23 Holtz - under 23 Thompson - under 23 Over 23 Severson - over 27 (not old - still 8 good years left) Hamilton - over 28 (not old still 6-7 good years left). Sorry buddy - their depth of young players is miles ahead of us. I get it you can't admit it here. Fine. They literally have a stable of players ready to compete together for over a decade. 13 players there that are either NHL players or sure thing NHL players and most 23 (close) or under. Hughes (D), Holtz and Thompson are set to be stars in the NHL and they aren't even here yet. How you can say we are the same as that, only you understand. The proof is right above however.

That's nice. Do you actually read something before you post it? These aren't prospects. Dipietro is the only one and he's not even our top goalie prospect anymore. Juloevi? really? lol Rather than just trying to argue to be right, perhaps look at the rosters. The names I provided from NJ show a much stronger and deeper young team than ours. That cannot even be debated. The 'prospects' listed in that article I provided, are ACTUAL prospects, not in the NHL, again DEEPER and better than anything we have. This also cannot be debated. Instead you give me an article saying Quinn and Petey are "under 23 prospects". Typically prospects are not ppg players making 7-8 mil. Those are usually considered star NHL'ers Sheesh Vancouver has a very top-heavy ranking, led by two true star-level NHL players in Elias Pettersson and Quinn Hughes. The high ranking is mostly due to them given the system isn’t overly deep, but there have been some solid picks outside the first round, like Nils Hoglander and Mikey DiPietro, which stretches the system out a bit. Key graduates: Olli Juolevi

Hirchier Hughes Zacha Mercer Severson Hamilton Sharangovich Mcleod Bovquist Excludes Hughes (D) Holtz Thompson Their window is opening... their team is much better than ours if you are looking at it from a long term perspective given the ages of those names and how far along they already are vs our few guys.

Not sure I agree with you in terms of the same position. When you look at their depth chart and prospect pipeline I really don't see how we are comparable. NJ is in a much better position for the long term than we are. Depth Chart New Jersey Devils Depth Chart - NHL Starters and Backup Players - CBSSports.com Prospects Ranked 4th in the league compared to us? Where are we? Last? Wheeler’s 2022 NHL prospect pool rankings: No. 4 New Jersey Devils - The Athletic I will agree they will look at the UFA market to not give up assets. But I still see Miller as a good fit there and don't agree we are in the same position.

Depends on where we are in our life cycle. If we had a stacked team of youth, and a huge stable of prospects ready to push for spots as well, and needed to take the next step to start making the playoffs and winning, hell yes. To compare our current situation to NJ's is not how you can look at it. You have to look at it from where NJ is not us. They are much further along, draft picks are almost pointless for them given their depth of young talent and they need to start winning to keep fans around, and also not bust their young players, aka Edmonton syndrome

Yes all very allowed. You're allowed to involve agents in trades, and agents often help establish/facilitate trades for GM's. There's been numerous trades where players sign extensions immediately after they've been traded. The only way that happens, given the typical process and time required for contract negotiations, is if that is occurring during the trade discussions.

I don't think Manson is coming that cheap and for that short term. He will be in high demand and if he's going to take a discount it will be to go back to Anaheim. Like the idea but do think it will cost quite a bit more from us.
