  1. wow one season....and every other season he's been on the bubble to no longer be in the NHL, but lets ignore that - one season does not a legit player make...and you seem to be missing the forest for the trees here Gustav Forsling Stats | Hockey-Reference.com He's had one good year and you're anointing him a top 4 dman - he hasn't proven anything yet. Look at all his years stats prior to last year. And again the POINT of this debate was Forsling is not a miss by Vancouver as clearly it took him almost being out of the league and 8 years to even prove he belongs in the NHL...Jesus anyways....
  2. Warren has jumped into the mid second round now on many lists....doubt we see him fall to the third - sadly
  3. He TOOK 8 YEARS TO DEVELOP.. and 3 teams The Canucks did not make an error is the point
  4. Yup wait and see. The good thing is he is a pretty good skater (Fox was not) and isn't playing with a Connor McDavid player or anyone like that list of yours. So there is likely much higher potential than Fox. I get your point but don't undersell the kid either. When a Sutter is complementing your compete, you were never drafted to the WHL, and you earn an AHL contract, there are some intangibles there we shouldn't ignore (outside of his skill), that could help him find a way to at worst be a solid AHL contributor.
  5. lots of injuries on FLA defense dude 8 years to develop 3 teams let it go time to move on
  6. Forsling took 8 years of pro hockey to develop and 3 different teams dude...and he's on a powerhouse team now as a bottom pair D.... better examples than him if you're trying to make a point
  7. I'd avoid those types of players. Heavy feet is the same type of issue Gaunce had. The game now is alot about quick starts and stops, turns, coming out of turns hard, quick feet and acceleration in tight spots. In the 70's and 80's straight ahead speed was great but now the game has changed so much you need to be able to maneuver (think about trying to get around Makar or Quinn with their mobility and speed. It won't happen if you're not able to make quick changes in direction). Pass for me. Skating is just so uber important now.
  8. I would think he could get us a mid to late first or yes 2 seconds because of his contract. He's highly regarded around the league in terms of talent and competitiveness and his contract is seen as somewhat of a bargain or at least 'very' reasonable given his upside potential. He can be more than a 55 pt player (ie think about how little PP time Garland saw here). Hagel (who is on a much cheaper contract) had only one year of similar stats (this year) where he was on pace for 55 pts with Chicago. Garland has shown he can do that repeatedly so that can offset a bit of the cost advantage...but Hagel (plus 2 fourths) got 2 firsts, Radysh and Katchouk- granted these are Tampa's firsts so they are late picks I would argue outside of $, Garland is a better and more proven player. So a late first would be absolutely fair, and potentially more.
  9. Another ranking! Rankings Rankings! lol....not sure how good this group is but another one to disucss. I'm looking for a post on Hockey Forums I saw where a guy took a dozen plus rankings and basically assigned points to each draft position, then aggregated to get a "consensus" view...interesting analysis and I will post it if I find it. If anyone else has seen it please post as its probably the best list to consider as it has the views of many many many lists all in one. 2022 NHL Draft Rankings - HockeyProspect.com
  10. Deeper in that there seems to be alot of players who may make the NHL, but it does lack high end talent.... On Miro, yes I recall him being seen as high as 3. Its the first time I've seen anyone question his hockey IQ and if he was ranked 3 early I can't see that being an issue. No player would be considered that high if it was an issue.
  11. Well I think alot of people look at his draft position and size and think wow! But draft position means nothing once you've been in the league a few years, and NJ fans don't like him much Apparently he's very frustrating, as when he's engaged they see why he was a high pick and they get excited over his toolkit, but then he disappears and pisses them off...We don't need Jake 2.0....
  12. @smithers joe posted in his update that there is some report out of NJ that they want Miller but don't want to give up the 2nd OA. Not sure how good his source is but if true, I think that 20A has to be part of the deal. Perhaps we swap 15 OA for 2nd OA and then make the trade from there... Definitely supports the idea that NJ wants to start winning NOW...and makes sense... One player I don't want is Zacha. He is inconsistent and not always committed from what I've read.. I think people here talking about him look at his draft position vs what he's done since...pass on anything that includes him. Miller, Myers, Rathbone, 15OA Severson (RD), Holtz (great prospect), Mercer (RH 3C) and 2nd OA
  13. Glad to see this. Would be a real shame not to see Kuch in the finals. He's such a superb talent and so great to watch. I don't really care who wins, just want to see a great series and it go to 7.
  14. I called Tampa in 7 but have to agree with you. In game 2 I think we saw Tampa's legs get really heavy. There's a big advantage for Colorado to be used to that elevation. And in a 7 game series that will impact as Col has home ice adv
  15. Nah I want to see best on best....7 games whomever wins, wins. Not seeing Kuch and Point in the playoffs makes the games less interesting. I love seeing all the best talent go head to head.
  16. Zadorov is a LD, I'd rather be spending that money on a RD, despite liking him.
  17. None of us know. Time will tell. The point I think Button was making is a great hockey player isn't only about being flashy. Your 1c doesn't have to be a standout / 90 pt player to be a 1c. Kopitar has hit 90 pts once in his career, other than that averaged 60-70 pts Bergeron has never hit 80 pts in his career, averaged 55-65 pts O'Reilly, same as Bergeron. I think most would agree they are all 1c's. And not saying he's any of those because we don't know. But to suggest just because a guy isn't flashy and putting up 100 pts in junior he's not a 1c and top pick is silly Only time will tell as I said, but if he has no flaws to his game, there is actually a very good chance he could meet or exceed some of those names because all of them had flaws when they were drafted. And the such praise is not heard very often about players. A player who can skate extremely well, has size, has a pro shot, see's the ice well, plays hard and understands how to play defense and is committed to it, good in the circle, along the boards, etc. Sounds to me like a pure gem of a hockey player that is damn hard to play against because he can beat you in a host of ways, and doesn't make it easy on you. Sounds alot more like the names above than it does RNH dude.
  18. Correct but given his unfamiliarity with North America, and his lack of comfort with it, I would think coming back to Vancouver (if he wants to return to the NHL) would be high on his list (particularly given new mgmt, coaching and a couple of Russian buddies who he seems to know well given his IG likes).... As a result, I would think, if Alvin and JR are smart enough to try and bring him back, they are likely in a strong position to do so, particularly with this signing and the success and happiness of Podz here.
  19. Any agent worth his salt should have already talked to Nik to see if there's interest and already have talked to JR/Alvin....I hope he already has and they are talking. We have a huge need on RD, a couple of Russians now, a new coach, and great mgmt team. The oppty to take a spot is there for him with a great coach not Willie the donk.
  20. Button said that there is literally zero flaws in his game. He's not going to get you out of your seats but he does everything so well he will be a great 1c who's very hard to play against. From Button's description it sounds like he's a Bergeron, O'Reilly or Kopitar type player. Basically, he saying he already has a refined pro game, has no weaknesses and is a big center....what's not to like? That he's not flashy? I'll take Bergeron 100x over and on Sunday if that's the type of player he is. I think we fans get excited by highlight reel videos of dangles etc. Coaches and GM's get excited by a player who can put up 70-80 pts in the NHL, is big, can skate, and doesn't make mistakes defensively.
  21. With one year left there is a low break fee for a KHL player however. Basically he has to buyout his contract. And he's not even making 1 mil there..so the Canucks could easily sign him for say 2 -3 years at 2 mil and pay a signing bonus to cover that contract out clause. Now its up to JR and Alvin to really think about this, honestly its stupid not to.
  22. The fact he's still following the team and more importantly commenting on key signings etc...sounds to me like part of his heart wants to come back...
