  1. Everyone thinks they're going to win the cup at the trade deadline, when they don't they realize they needed to make changes. That will increase value for our players pre draft. JR and Alvin MUST be in a position to know what the market is for our players, who we can or can't resign and be ready to act. We will get more at the draft than we will at the trade deadline for anyone on an expiring contract.
  2. Add a first. Kapanen solves a big issue for us. A fast winger who can play 2/3rd line and PP2 and is an excellent PK'er Marino - the partner for Quinn we need First - a future, who knows what it turns into, maybe it allows us to pair our first to move up and draft a top RD, or perhaps that first is moved for a 3c. All are young enough to be part of a core that can make runs to a cup. I love Miller but this team is at a cross roads. We don't need a 9 mil vet right now, we need that guy when we need to get over the top for a cup. Sadly, its time to move him.
  3. Why are you assuming trading miller is a step back? Shouldn't the trade move us forward? That's the whole purpose. To fill other holes and make us a stronger TEAM all around. At the same time, our young guys need to take the next step. Petey needs to become the 90pt player he is capable of, Bo needs to be more of a leader, Podz needs to take the next step, Boeser and Garland have to improve their consistency. It's their time to up or out as they say. They are the players who are supposed to win a cup for us. If not, then they should be moved.
  4. It seems likely Miller will be moved. JR has said they have an internal cap figure for him already set, Miller has said he's not taking discounts. In order for the Canucks to be competitive, and fill other holes he has to take a discount / work with the internal cap. Its clear Miller wants to maximize value (understandably) while the Canucks cannot afford that from a cap structure perspective (Long term). Ie there are ripple effects. If Miller gets 9, Petey will want 11 when he's up (assuming he's improved), Demko will want 9, etc etc.... Players are aware its a business, and the way the Canucks will position it to the media, fans and team is we have to improve the team, we only have so much cap we can allocate and he felt he could get more elsewhere. Sadly, it doesn't work for our cap structure so we had to make a trade. Players move all the time, and assuming the return is as it should be (ie very good), winning solves alot of issues. Also, at some point, players like Bo, Boeser, Petey, Hughes, Demko can't be worrying about 'more vets to teach us"...they have to take the reigns and lead the team.
  5. Clark is also heavily involved in our scouting / drafting of goalies now. He has alot of input.
  6. Ok so you're arguing both sides of the same coin On one hand you're posting feverishly about the fact we are no longer "taking a step back" On the other you are saying players were questioning our commitment to winning (which they did under JB). So which do you want? Do you want to tear it down? Move everyone including Petey, Demko, Bo etc? because JR and Alvin "may not" be effective at fixing the issues? Or do you want to give them time to show if they can make the necessary changes required to start winning with this group? You seem to be changing your tune depending on whom you talk to.
  7. Sure but that's not the point you made originally. In your post you said Demko's contract is our window. And you're assuming Petey will just up and leave because we suck. Pretty sure its a bit more nuanced than that.
  8. The purpose of trading Miller is to improve the team in other areas. We have multiple holes, Miller (who is amazing). we can manage to win without - assuming we fill some of the glaring holes with his return. We would still need to see improvement from within from players like Petey, Quinn, Bo, Boeser, Podz, etc. all of which is possible. It takes a team to win, but Miller is not Gretz. Moving Miller should and HAS to address more than one glaring hole for us. If so, it makes sense.
  9. Interesting post on nhl feeds on IG Ottawa senators are open to trading 7th over all for a top6 winger or a top 4 dman. Boeser or Garland?
  10. what does that have to do with my point? I was talking about how the post I responded to suggested our window is four years long when petey and quinn are 22 and 21, and demko is only 26
  11. Demko is 26, his contract runs till he's 30. Most goalies of his calibre play into their mid 30's at an elite level very easily. I don't think JR thinks the window is only 4 years long. Disagree there. Its alot longer, especially when Petey and Quinn are 22 and 21 respectively. Their window does not close right when they reach their prime! Goalies playing / who played well past 30 at elite levels Fleury Price Roy Brodeur Hasek Luongo Rask Tim Thomas Quick Lundqvuist on and on...our window is not 4 years long. In 4 years it should just be starting. At that stage (contract ending / 30 years old), Demko would still have at least 4 years left as an Elite starter. Then 2-3 years as the backup. So we 'should see' who the heir apparent is by that time. I suspect we will be drafting a goalie in 2-3 years for that role.
  12. Every team in the league wants him too though! lol He's going to be expensive to any team other than maybe Anaheim if he wants to go back...
  13. That's an interesting point. I never considered he may not want to go play in that market because its become SO much of a disaster. He doesn't seem to have the Lindros ego but this is a whole other level of chaos....
  14. There are alot of factors going into moving Miller as you are implying. First, it comes down to what does Miller want $ and term wise and does that fit into the Canucks long term plan. If not, simple, he gets moved. We will know that probably before that draft. Second, who's interested and what are they willing to offer. What we know, is apparently the deal you mentioned was on the table. Is that deal or a similar deal available at the draft? My guess is given the playoffs, there will be more teams interested. Florida can't be happy with their performance, Pittsburgh rumours of Malkin maybe moving on, Toronto, always needs, Boston definitely would want him (Bergeron my retire, doubt it, but they don't even have a legit 2c and are not in a tear it down stage, they still want to compete for a cup with that group), Colorado depending on what happens with Kadri (who is likely to move on), so many teams will be interested in Miller. Third, based on what's on offer and balanced against, what Miller wants, we may move him before the draft (assuming it doesn't work in our financial plan), at the deadline, or maybe simply because someone blows us out of the water with an offer. I love Miller, he's my favorite Canuck, as he embodies the same passion of players like Smyl, Linden, Bert, Kesler, Burrows, guys who really cared for this team so its hard for me to say this. but we should move him. If Management does their job correctly, they should create a bidding war for him. We look at the NYR deal and say not enough, but management's job is then to create a market that get's enough. With a player like Miller we can not and should not be a price taker, rather a price maker and even an average GM should be able to create pricing tension for that asset (given he has no NTC/NMC, is on a dirt cheap contract, and his production and intangibles make him highly sought after). We have a Lambo, and if you can't sell a Lambo for the price of a Lambo, but rather the price of Jaguar, you have a problem. TBH if Alvin fails here I will not be impressed. Basically, this trade that needs to happen, either jumps us forward years, or sets us back into JB pergatory. Alvin has a very important summer ahead.
  15. Personally I would pass. He's never been good defensively, and his offense is gone. better served using that money for guys who can play D
  16. RD, 6.03, 194, Canadian kid ....and sounds like a diamond in the rough.. - definitely ticks all our boxes from this article.....nice find. Ranked 153 according to another article I found. 3/4th round pick. Love to see us take him with our 3rd. https://www.thesudburystar.com/sports/local-sports/collins-coming-into-his-own-with-wolves Quote: He’s 6-3, 190 pounds, but what I really like about Nolan and how I think his game really translates to the next level is he’s a really good skater, a deceptive skater and he’s got good speed, and he’s also very intelligent. You watch the way he lifts the guy’s stick just before he gets the puck. He’s hard to forecheck against, because he’s got a lot of natural deception in his game and he’s able to skate and to get out of trouble. He doesn’t get beaten too often one on one and he’s physical, he’s got that other element in his game and he’s tough to play against, not the kind of guy who will back down from anybody.” On his ranking - from another article Collins, who did not appear on NHL Central’s mid-term or preliminary rankings or even its Players to Watch list, also made strides in the second half of the season, putting up the bulk of his 18 points after Christmas en route to a final ranking of 153rd among North American skaters. The Whitby, Ont., resident also joined Goyette and Delic in representing Canada at the IIHF World Men’s Under-18 Championship in Germany last month.
  17. Sad the leafs probably forced this. For a 4th line player he added alot. Still had 25 pts in that role. He was making league min and was willing to do the same but only willing to play for the leafs. My guess is they said we need that 900k elsewhere, and given he won't play anywhere else, he's retiring. He def had one to two years left in him, as he can still skate at 25 pts from your 4th line center is very good production.
  18. We need him to be our 1c! Hopefully yes he improves in the circle and adds some weight. He's got everything else, compete, offensive elite skill, is willing and able to play 200ft, can skate. Thankfully, those issues are easy to improve upon.
  19. Happily sell Myers high and find someone who can be a stay at home player for cheaper. I wonder how much of Meyer's improvement can also be attributed to OEL playing more defensively? That impacted OEL's numbers and makes Meyers look better. There is a market for Meyers, he's only got 2 years left, big RD who can skate are hard to find, the issue becomes who replaces him. I'd like to see Lybushkin and Manson (hard to get I know) or Colin Miller signed. Those guys will come cheaper, are physical, stay at home D. That would likely allow OEL to also start bringing more offense 5 on 5. Quinn seems to take 1.5 mins of the 2 mins on the PP so OEL was limited there this year too. He was clearly very good when Quinn was out.
  20. Miller and Bo are one 1c / 2c - we are not paying Miller 9 mil to play 3c, we are not paying Bo 7 mil to play 3c. Assuming Petey has the 1/2C locked up, clearly we are not paying one of those players to play 3rd line If you move one, we don't need to replace his POSITION. We've always needed a 3c regardless of Bo/Miller. Its odd, since your lineup actually shows this. You've got two players, playing the same position. It follows that if one is moved, we don't need to back fill that position right? My pleasure in assisting you!
  21. you responded to me, its quite clear you made such assumptions. If you did not, why are you writing to me? Please....lol I'm not sure how "You don't need to replace Horvat , if you're keeping Miller" is confusing to you. Clearly Miller can play 1/2c. Horvat is a 2c. Petey should be a C. Therefore, If you're keeping Miller, and Horvat is gone, you don't need to find another center, aka replace Horvat. My pleasure in assisting you to better understand my views. Regards, A
  22. Canuck luck - knee "Canuck Luck" has no bearing on a player's recovery...sorry. I don't worry about superstition, don't believe in narnia, or magic beans either!
  23. interesting. You see one trade with one team as the equivalent to all that weird While trades like I suggested don't happen often these days (primarily because of cap), they have happened and it was only a 3 player deal. I am a little confused how you equate a 3 roster player deal (Miller, Garland, and Myers) with the 80 moves you posted. Happy to hear how you equate those. I am not sure how old you are but given your response probably a teenager. You may want to look back at the trade the Canucks made with STL years back to get Momesson, Ronning, Courtnall - a deal that put us in a position to make a run for a cup. Three player deals can and have happened in the past. March 5, 1991Trade: Geoff Courtnall, Robert Dirk, Sergio Momesso, Cliff Ronning and future considerations traded from St. Louis to Vancouver for Dan Quinn and Garth Butcher. I appreciate your input.
  24. I believe he may be overrated. His skyrocketing is a result of a brief tournament (yes amongst men) but brief nonetheless. The top 2 RD are franchise RD and given where we lack talent its stupid to pass on them. They are the BPA for this franchise and not a reach by any means given the above. Unless of course JR told you what his draft list looks like? Seems you view your opinon like its a fact, yet your "opinion" is no more or less valid than mine, thank you. So please take your "loooooool" and realize no one here is "Right" I appreciate your input
