His second round is really interesting. He's got a bunch of RD I had my eye on, and ranked much lower, going in the second round. Noah Warren Sam Rinzel Christian Kyrou All guys ranked in the 3/4th rounds where we have picks..... I sure hope we can snag a 2nd round pick and grab Warren

Button has Savoie at 18 and Nazar at 25....I wonder what his knock is on them. Personally, I take Miro if he's there or Kasper - assuming the draft goes in a relatively normal fashion.

5'9" center...I think we will pass given our needs. He will drop because of his size, be converted to wing and probably do quite well.

I think JB was not only a bad GM, he was a bad leader. He set the bar so low that the players seemed to accept mediocrity....and his moves from coaching out certainly didn't help. The Key going forward is exactly as you say, a culture that believes we're hit to win, to win a cup (not just 'try' and make the playoffs), and the effort required to do so, in the offseason and on the ice. My concern is some of our players have grown up in the environment that JB created. I hope they are recognizing talk is now cheap and with the new group in, expectations are much higher. And if they can't compete at that level, its time to move them -

That's actually what I think they will do... they can't 'retool'....You have Sid who's not going to stand for it, and they're resigning (so it seems) Gino and Letang...they're going for 2-3 more cup runs with the old crew....then as those guys hang them up, they tank for 2-3 years and do it all again with more generational players...its seems that strategy has worked for them repeatedly. -

Sure but throw in a Hoglander and you never know...and I do think people severely under rate both of those players (Myers and Pearson) here. -

I like Mayfield but he's 29 turning 30 this year...we need a younger version of him back for Boeser imho. -

I'm more curious to see if he's 'gritty'....We can see his skill in the highlights but if plays a 'hard nosed' game like Podz, he will truly be a heck of an add for us. Maybe a Burr 2.0? -

but you know someone will....in fact Edmonton is trying to re-sign him....the guy scored at a record setting pace in the playoffs....GM's in all pro sports are the same. You can produce - I will accept your nonsense You're average and bring nonsense- you disappear and never get another chance That's just reality- someone, and many teams, will be willing to take a risk on him. Regardless the point was the inflation of stats is often ignored...and therefore, if Kuzy wanted to only focus on money, his best bet was to sign with Edmonton because he will put up bigger numbers than in Vancouver (assuming top 6 and pp for both sides). That is just common sense. seen it many times over the years in all sports where GM's ignore the fact that a player can inflate stats by playing on good teams. -

Sure but the debate isn't about Kane, he's an example of my point. -

Agree we should temper our expectations but don't forget he's 26 not a 19 year old rookie. One would "hope" he knows how to prepare for a professional season and can adjust more easily given his experience playing pro. -

it was Rutherford who moved him..... "LOL" -
With Kuzy and Podz, maybe we take Miro now too! He's who I want if he's there at 15 but am also getting very warm on Marco Kasper...Feel like Miro is the high end higher risk pick but if he reaches his ceiling watch out. Kasper to me is another Bo type pick. Know what you're getting. Ceiling isn't as high but you're getting a solid player out of it.

They have soured on both players (Marino and Kapanen) - both were on the trade block all of last year. They are re-signing Malkin (almost 36 years old) They are re-signing Letang 35 years old Crosby is 34 turning 35 years old this year This is their core and they are clearly not looking to rebuild - they are looking to take a few more runs at a cup with this group that's clear by their efforts to re-sign Letang and Malkin. Therefore, if you're soured on a couple of players and you can bring players who can help you win cups and fit that 3 year window why not? and cap wise its pretty much the same Marino - 4.4 Kapenen 3.2 but RFA and will want 4+ 8.4 - 8.8 Myers 6 Pearson 3 .25 9.25 Not a material difference and easy enough to balance out or even if the Canucks retained a little. -

"inflated stat totals" It's literally detoxifed Kane...people see skill their eyes get big. As much as players stats are inflated there's always teams who will be blinded by that -

I've read they've soured on both. And if they re-sign both Malkin and Letang, they want another couple runs for the cup...so they will want experience. I agree we may have to add...perhaps add in Hogs would do it. -

This is a fair point and the reason why we should temper our expectations. As I said in another post if he can be a top 9 player getting us 30-40 pts its a win, anything above that is a huge win. Until we see him play we don't know but....I will say, from what I've read and seen, he seems like a better fit for the NHL than Gusev. Gusev was a perimeter player who's very light on his feet. Kuzmenko is not a permitter player, is known to play with a high motor and goes to the hard areas (more suited for the NHL), from what I have read and seen, I see a lot of Burrows in him. We can't just look at points, I think we have to look at style of play and who plays a style more suited to the NHL, and that is clearly Kuz. Gusev 5'10" 176 lbs Kuzmenko 5'11 195 lbs Almost a 20 lb difference and a very different style of play. I don't disagree with your point of not being too hyped up just yet, but we also have to look at things beyond just points when comparing players to get a better view of potential.
