  1. Impressive win by management. I'm not assuming anything in his impact until I / we see him play in the NHL but nonetheless, given how most teams were after him, this is a nice badge for our new team and they deserve kudo's for landing him. Very impressive indeed. I do like that he and Podz played on the same line in Russia and have chemistry, and if he can take a top 6 role, he really creates some flexibility for us regarding trades etc. Well done Alvin and JR. That's two nice deals so far. Hamonic for a 3rd and now Kuzmenko Some very nice early signs from this management group.
  2. Not sure we get Severson from NJ for Myers and Garland. Zacha is def redundant for them, and their fans find him frustratingly inconsistent. I think our fans over rate him. Regardless that's not a hard pull but I do think there are better 3C options for us. Severson though? Big 47 pt RD? He's pretty close to untouchable in my view. Like the other ideas though
  3. isn't copp playing 3c in NYR? he is not coming cheap and personally I think his stats are inflated...he's been a 30 pt guy his entire career till this year
  4. This guy thinks he's Kawhi Leonard with this song and dance... my lord - so much noise for a guy who's going to be a middle six forward.
  5. He doesn't understand the concept and importance of having a puck moving D on each pair, and on the PK as well Alf...
  6. So every NHL team has 4 big pk'ing defensive dmen? ok I guess I must have missed that my bad thanks, I'll make sure to note that next time I watch the games! Appreciate it!
  7. One thing this series proves is that anyone who thinks we can just tinker with our lineup and not trade significant pieces to materially upgrade, is not watching the same games The pace of this and intensity is light years above what the canucks have. There's no way our D could handle any teams playing at this pace....without that, we will never win a cup.
  8. This is probably not a good thing for Colorado. You never want to embarrass a team in the playoffs, especially a team like Tampa, it can wake them up / piss them off. I am not suggesting Colorado hasn't been lights out better, but you have to be careful...Tampa will be a very different team now game 3 at home. Its often better to have a close win vs a rout...and I know you can't stop trying but mentally it will give Tampa a rallying point and can make Colorado (who's never been this far with this group) get very overconfident. Anyways, expecting some rough stuff soon and an exciting game 3!
  9. I guess you didn't understand the idea of "pairing" dmen. It was already explained to you, so rather than explaining it again, I suggest you read it. I also suggest that instead of immediately responding to people, read their responses before you hit reply. smh
  10. Is that what I said? No its not actually But carry on with childish responses about a game kid...jesus
  11. Looks like Nicklas Backstrom may be done - opening up another potential suitor for Horvat or Miller should the Canucks decide to move one of them. He's 34 turning 35 this year, and has had the same hip surgery that Kesler underwent in 2019 (and never played again). Jovo had the same surgery, returned, played 39 games and then retired. So clearly its a very serious repair for hockey players, and given his age, and apparently what often takes at least a year of rehab, I would be surprised if he comes back. https://twitter.com/frank_seravalli/status/1538268431052578817?s=20&t=8JJS7hWN6l0f-L9cvwnHWg Do we like any Caps prospects?
  12. ya that's all great and lovely narnia talk where we have zero constraints in cap, and can magically trade for some great puck handling big phsyical LD for cheap! so easy! the issue is 'bro' we have OEL and Hughes as our two top LD.... Having a puck moving D playing PK is very helpful, because they tend to be smart with the puck and relaxed under pressure (something clearly very helpful on PK), but I guess we could go get more meatheads like Guddy and Sbisa and try that again right? Let's get some big oafs who handle the puck like a grenade and cough it up when pressured! Just what we need for a PK'er! Teams tend to PAIR off dmen. One puck mover, one stay at home dman with size.... Since we already have 2 solid puck movers on the left, and one in the system (Rathbone), and RD's are expensive (particularly if they are offensive), it kind of makes more sense to fill the right side with size as that's cheaper....but that would be kind of common sense. You then use OEL and the better of QH and Rathbone on the PK....for the reasons above. And not sure what you're talking about in the other post about Rathbone and RD, he's a left... And Rathbone can't PK? Says who? You? OPINION isn't fact....I think you need to realize that
  13. Really happy for Gaunce. Felt like he never really got a fair shot here. The only thing he seemed to lack was 'quick' feet and wasn't using his size enough. He was straight line fast. But both of those issues could be improved on. He went to Europe, clearly improved his quickness, and came back a year or 2 ago. I watched a few games of CBJ and he was also using his size alot better. Sometimes players just need to learn how to adjust their game from junior to be effective in the NHL I am glad he found a way, and from the games I saw he was quite effective in his role. Hopefully he gets another contract after this one!
  14. You haven't named one defenseman there I think you have to look at our defense and players and consider how far we are from having a stanley cup winning top 4 and defensive core. As JR said, we were winning because of a great goalie saving our bad defense regularly...bad defense and decent offense does not win cups. Toronto and Edmonton have great offenses and bad defense...and where are they? And we're not moving Myers, Poolman, Pearson and MATERIALLY improving that back end. So the point has been, we need to move someone of value, and deal from a position of strength to improve an area of severe weakness. This is common sense and the key to building a successful team , and I am not sure why you won't accept that reality. Yes a great goalie can save you, but you can't rely on that...JR has said it as well. You seem to 'care' about the players more than the team... I get it...but as a fan of 35 years now, I'm personally tired of watching a team constantly stuck in the middle. Not good enough to win, not bad enough for high picks to rebuild properly. We have redundant assets than can help bolster weak areas of our team and make us a contender. Do you realize Trevor Linden was traded at 28 years old? You know what it brought back? Bertuzzi, Bryan McCabe, and a third (Jaarko Ruutu). McCabe turned into a Sedin....Imagine if we didn't make that trade? That many including myself hated at the time. The goal is to win a cup, not say hey great we made the playoffs!
  15. Yes, I wasn't suggesting we target Megna, Baerschi and Vey....umm it was sarcasm dude Appreciate the response but all you've done is laid out our issues (and I agree with most of your comments). The issue were debating is HOW, when we are cap constrained and people want to sign both Miller and Bo....in my view one has to go (along with other players) to create the cap flexibility and core that can compete for cups.
  16. our overall defense is atrocious and Demko masks it. Much as Lou did in his early years.
  17. If the can fill the holes properly yes, but will a winger who's had injuries and and 25 goals with a 7.5 mil QO bring back alot? Will Garland? I am not sold that they will. If they do, sure....because Miller can also play wing and his flexibility is very valuable...
  18. I would love to keep them all, they all bring a different and important element to the team. The problem is contracts and lack of assets to trade with that JB stuck us with. Boeser overpaid, Myers, OEL but if given more pp time who knows, I'm not as low on him as many are. Ie we could move out Myers, Pearson (there is a market for both) but we aren't getting players back that will really help us (we'd get cap space only). We don't have assets people will pay up for and that we can afford to move (ie trading from a position of strength). So what happens? We have to go UFA route and start overpaying again...this is the vicious circle Benning created. He didn't stock up on picks and youth that could be leveraged for trades, say if we had a stable of RD or centers...all of a sudden you have flexibility to make a trade that can help now and in the future if you say trade Myers with one of those high quality prospects... Benning really made a mess here, I'm sure JR and Alvin have a tough job ahead and tough decisions to make, and many fans will be unhappy is my guess.
  19. No we shouldn't settle, and the trade market will change at the draft, after UFA season, as the season moves on. Personally I think we need to move Bo and keep Miller But the point is, we are blessed with 3 great top 2 centers. We only need 2. We can't afford to distribute our cap into a redundant asset (the extra top 2c) and also make the team better in other areas because all 3 centers will be paid 7-9 mil per year. That's money needed elsewhere and fans can thank JB for that, his bad decisions are making it harder to fix this team. So a hard decision has to be made. You trade from strength to get better in other areas (fill holes) so that the team is positioned to win a championship, not just make the playoffs and see what happens (aka Benning strategy). Its the same issue as Lou and Schnieder, clearly we didn't need both. Granted that was bungled but the point is the same. We couldn't tie up $14 mil in 2 goalies, just as you can't tie up 22-25 mil in three centers when only two of them are getting top six icetime.
  20. Rathbone will be a 3LD in a year, he will be paired with a big, defensive RD (which they should be looking for) OEL as he ages will slide down from 1LD, 2LD, then eventually switch with Rathbone Any LD we draft now won't be in the NHL for 3-4 years dude.
  21. And how do you propose we sort our RD issues, 3C issue, bottom 6 issues, and bring in impact players with no cap? Is Jason Megna available? Vey? How about Bearschi? Maybe we can do that all over again?
  22. And no, objectivity is factual Subjectivity is opinion Fans need to start being objective and looking at facts not feelings
  23. Ok well perhaps you need to go tell Francesco you know more than JR because he and Alvin have pretty much alluded to that.
  24. The issue is our cap JB mismanaged it and we have a lot of holes. So we have a choice. Give to get, or try and tinker with a team that is clearly not good enough to win a championship How exactly do we improve materially in the areas we are weak (RD, 3c etc) without moving a valuable piece? GM's are not stupid, they aren't taking scraps for players that will be difference makers for us. And I am on the keep Miller move Bo train, but it seems many here want to ignore the fact we have too many holes and not enough cap to fill them via ufa etc. It seems many want to keep ALL our favorites (understandable), but we also have to be realistic given our constraints, that we will have to give up some players we may like to improve the TEAM as a whole. Honestly, the more I read the boards, I think people are not really being objective in how many holes we have and the fact you do have to give to get when trading players. If your plan is tinker around the edges with little cap space, how is that any different that what Benning did for the last 8 years?
