  1. I could see a BIG deal with Philly if they are really going for it. Torts is not a coach who would have signed up for a rebuild so as dreger has said they will be aggressive (see my post below). As with you I see a Miller Myers deal but also think Boeser and potentially Rathbone should be involved. Why? Because if we are trading miller we need a player like Provorov back (assuming Miller is signed to an extension). Canucks to Philly - Miler, Myers, Rathbone Philly To Van - Provorov, 2022 1st round 5OA, 2023 2nd round, JVR (Cap dump UFA end of season so we can move him out for a pick), Zack Mckewan (undo JB's bad move). Rationale Miller if re-signed is worth Provorov and the 1st Myers and Rathbone are worth the 2023 2nd plus Mckewan - with Provorov, Rathbone has no room on this team anymore. JVR is cap move for Philly We now have a world class LD We now have cap room with Myers and Miller out to sign a UFA like Forsberg and a RD Mckewan adds the grit on the 4th line we are lacking
  2. Dreger saying Philly likely to swing for the fences in the off-season and are looking to move JVR for cap room This could mean their high pick could be part of a miller deal. Miller (re-signed / agrees to extension with Philly), Myers, Rathbone Philly 2022 First (5OA), 2023 2nd Provorov JVR (cap dump) - UFA end of season so we can move him as a rental Mckewan
  3. Yes there's always a big market for our Junk that will somehow manage to improve our club trade out overpaid junk bring back inexpensive young talent GM's are really stupid around the league, more than willing to just take our junk off our hands and weaken their own teams! SMH...
  4. thanks for proving my point of thinking in a vacuum I guess you ignore the long term implications of cap management and that's the issue.....but it seems you don't understand that money agreed to now limits the money we can spend down the road. thanks!
  5. Well that article also says that while he ripped on Gradin for missing Pastrnak, that Gradin wanted Nylander (over Virtanen) and Benning wanted Bleackly who's in the ECHL over McCann so....seems like Benning isn't as bright as you're suggesting.
  6. I'm firmly against taking a LD at 15. There will be plenty of elite forwards left at that spot, and a number of RD slightly below but not a reach....we are solid on LD, and unless a player is lights out so much better than everyone else, I think its a bad decision. I am ASSUMING however, that QH, OEL, Rathbone are our LD going forward for a number of years.
  7. Cool, you think Petey is getting under 8 next deal? LOL Also, you seem to missing the entire point of my post but oh well...it seem's you're having some challenges understanding what I was saying but given I've explained it a few times now, no need to repeat it! but i'll give you another hint when it comes to cap management. You don't want to tie up that much money in 3 top 6 centers because it limits your financial flexibility (oops I'm re-explaining to you)...but here's the hint, go look at the 2023 RD UFA class and reconsider where we need to spend our cap ....again, can't think in a vacuum kid! You have to think forward! Just because it fits under the cap next season doesn't mean your TEAM is better long term and that you're in a position / have the flexibility to improve it in the future. And since we have to improve instead of just paying the same players more money - that would be the definition of insanity wouldn't it? Do the same thing over and over, and expect a different result? cheers!
  8. Young players need a player like Miller - to keep them in check
  9. I hope we can see him hit 60 assists. He's def got 40 goal talent, if he can become a 40/60 player that would be exactly what we need from him.
  10. I'll give them respect when they prove it....showing me what you did in pittsburgh with a generational talent like Sid as your leader doesn't impress me. (and Letang, Malkin and Fleury). I will be patient but not assuming anything, proof will be in the pudding as they say. What I do hope is that given JR's respect around the league is: 1) he will be able to make better trades (one of which we've already seen, Hamonic), and; 2) he can play hardball with agents better than Bend over Benning who seemed to be too nice for the role of negotiating contracts. JR has already signaled numerous times, the team is going to have an internal cap to ensure it can build the TEAM out properly, and if players can't fit into that idea, then buh bye....and that I respect as that's the only way you can win in the cap world.
  11. Landeskog signed for 8 years x 7 mil. Realistically, no one is going to pay a player who's had one GREAT year and is a terrific player otherwise more than that. If he came in at that level (and maybe 6 years), it would be great and also would set an internal cap for other players.
  12. Ya and paying 3 centers 7, 9, and 9 million is not an effective way to do it... particularly when you have to pay a winger 7.5 mil and he's not worth it particularly when you're paying 2 dmen 15 mil and they are not worth it particularly when there is a salary cap particularly when there is so much ice time to go around and you need players to play certain roles on a team its not a video game where every shift is about trying to get more and more goals jesus
  13. three scoring lines - we have 3 top 6 wingers dude... show me a team that plays all its top 3 lines evenly. I'm not forgetting about PP time. It's clear you're a big fan of Bo (great) but that shouldn't cloud the reality of how a team is put together in the cap world and WHY...
  14. You think Bo will produce the same number of points from a 3c position vs a top 6? If Miller is re-signed and Bo, and with Petey expected to now learn to take over the 1c role you have a different role for Bo Until now he has been playing a 'matchup' 2c role not a 3c shutdown role. He has had top 6 wingers to play with for the most part and at time's even Petey on his wing. If he's in a 3c role, he will be tasked with being a shutdown player, harder defensive responsibilities, more PK time, etc (ie Sutter's role), and generally less ice time. How many teams play all 3 lines equivalently? Do we have 6 top 6 wingers? lol we barely have 3... You don't want to be wasting a 30 goal player on the third line - given the role and ice time. So you have to choose, keep Miller or keep Bo...that's just the reality. And then from the trade of whichever player, better distribute your cap to improve the other areas of your team. You cannot make such a suggestion in a vacuum, ignoring the fact we have limited cap and a lot of other holes to fill. We have an excess of high quality centers (a great problem to have it think Lou vs Schnieder same issue) and given the way the game is played only need 2 of them (1 in the goalie example). You have redundant high value assets, and other major holes. You move the high value redundant assets to fill other holes to make the TEAM stronger on the whole.
  15. I'd be really surprised to see Bergeron retire. He had one of his best offensive seasons, won the Selke, and was ridiculous in all the fancy stat categories. I get he may be tired, and physically its demanding on him as he ages but damn, he's still at the top of his game. When a player is dropping off I get why they may want to hang them up. Regardless, Miller will be needed if they don't want to blow it up. They don't really have a true 2c. I suspect they will go very hard at Kadri though. My expectation is Miller (if Moved) will happen after the top UFA centers are gobbled up (Giroux, Trocheck, Strome, Kadri). There's a different flavour there for many teams, shorter term contracts, mid term, longer term centers. Teams will prefer not to give up assets. Then if they miss out on who they want, the teams left will start bidding for Miller or Bo.
  16. His errors were in all areas. Drafting? Juolevi and Virtanen. You CANNOT afford to miss on two top 5/6 picks in a row, That has been a huge setback for this franchise. Mcann over Pastrnak and Adrian Kempe. His only picks who've made a difference were Petey and Hughes. Petey was a great pick, Hughes anyone would have taken at that spot. Not sure if drafted Demko but if so, another good one. Boeser was a solid pick but Aho, Konecky, Carlo, Czernak go after... But beyond those, who has been great? He was supposed to be some drafting savant...where are the other players? A #5 and a #7 overall who've done well, and bad misses on a #5 and #6 is not good drafting. He basically did nothing beyond first round picks and failed miserable there too... The idea that he was a great scout does not seem to align with the players we've drafted and who are in our lineup now. Trading away second round picks for players like Vey, Baerschi, etc OEL Garland trade - basically taking a one year problem and making it worse for 6-7 years Dickenson, on and on Development - A lack of any real development other than players chosen very high in the draft Look at his trading record - he lost the vast majority of trades by a wide margin Jim Benning Trade History - CapFriendly - NHL Salary Caps His signings Boeser QO - way too much UFA's - Throwing money at everyone who asked and term on UFA's (Errikson) From drafting, to pro scouting, to UFA's to trades he was a disaster.....come on man.
  17. One of the best articles I've seen. Exactly the process they need to take.... but as alf says, the issue is Francesco. My fear is the "core" is not the core that can win a cup but we keep them and keep tinkering, basically just repeating Benning's errors but that may be slightly better give the minds / management team.
  18. I am really high on Barabosha, Sam Rinzel and Noah Warren - all big RD who skate and defend well and expected to go 3rd/4th rounds ARTYOM BARABOSHA | D | KRASNAYA ARMIYA MOSKVA | MHL | 6’2” | 190 | R | DOB 03.18.04 “He’s a sizable, mobile defenseman who’s always looking to move the puck up the ice. His skills start with a strong skating foundation, with a long, powerful stride. Barabosha is a fantastic puck carrier in transition, using head fakes and shoulder dips to create space for himself. It’s not uncommon for him to take the puck end to end by himself multiple times in one game at the MHL level. On defense, Barabosha boasts a very strong defensive stick and a punishing physical game. He will not allow forwards to beat him to the inside, and does a great job keeping the puck on the perimeter of the ice. Barabosha plays a rover game in the offensive zone, he follows the puck constantly, looking for holes and lanes to jump down into. His passing game is also notable, he’s got the ability to hit small pockets, find teammates in stride, and execute long stretch passes. Overall, Barabosha can be described as a strong, two-way defenseman with bottom four NHL potential.” – Alex Taxman Noah Warren https://thehockeywriters.com/noah-warren-2022-nhl-draft-prospect-profile/ Sam Rinzel https://thehockeywriters.com/sam-rinzel-2022-nhl-draft-prospect-profile/
  19. Yep Miro was considered top 5 for sure. I wouldn't be surprised for him to be gone too before we pick
  20. It was actually Lou who screwed us. He wasn't really fit to play but chose to do the honourable thing and retire. He could have easily failed his physical and gone on LTIR. Because he retired, they recapture hit us.
