Cap is at 82 mil so they won't be able to have 90 mil on the books. They have about 77 mil of actual player cap right now, excluding his contract (which would be). So they've basically created 4.5 mil in cap space to sign about 4 players including Hague Reilly Smith Howden Roy Have to assume Smith or Alex Martinez will get moved.

I played with the Sim again, and traded our third and I think our fifth for a bunch of picks in the middle rounds....I really like this outcome! Gauthier, and a bunch of big RD! If these Dmen develop we'd have a stable of high value players and trade chips.

(Rumour) Canucks targetting Copp, Mikheyev, and Lazar

Dude, move quinn and demko and Petey is not re signing here in 3 years. Miller or Bo, preferably Bo and Boeser or Garland. -
I think at 15 we should be less focused on LD personally, there are a bunch of players at center/wing who can help us and have more upside. Take the player with the most "elite" upside if we don't move the pick.

Gaudreau has 609 pts in 602 games in his career Miller has 323 pts in 637 career games I don't think they are comparable. Teams do not price off one year -
Don't we need a top 15 pick on D to be able to play actual defense? We have puck movers So you want a LD, who's needs to improve his D, not a guaranteed top 4 guy, and not filling a hole we have???? Dude

Landeskog got 8 years at a $7 mil aav and has numbers are MUCH better than Miller over the entirety of his career. Landeskog is a comp that will be used. Not sure why everyone assumes Miller's getting $9 mil for 7 years on the open market in a flat cap world where teams are still trying to recoup from covid losses. The only teams capable would be bottom feeders who wouldn't want him if in rebuild mode, and he likely wouldn't want to go to because he likely wants to win a cup. -

He's had one good year dude, no one is giving him $7m x 7 - he's been a 20-30 pt player his whole career. He's not getting the same money as Landeskog (he got $7 mil x 8 but you get the point). Jesus settle down -

Podz, Miller and Bo do

He takes the bridge because if he wants to bet on himself and open himself up for a bigger payday. If he thinks he can be a 40 goal player, and improve, you take 3 years and get PAID next contract, especially because by then, the cap will be moving up again....

I love Necas. Alot of speed and upside to his game.

[Rumour] Canucks interested in Andrei Kuzmenko

don't worry, he's not a big fish. If we don't get him so what... people are pumping his tires waaaay too much because he's on a roadshow marketing himself like he's Jagr at 24 years old. He's a maybe NHL player who has upside...outside of that, meh... -
Tampa in 7 To me this is such a great matchup for HOCKEY fans...it's reminds me of the Oilers of the 80's and their first run against the Dynasty Isles. An amazing run and gun team against a team full of vets who've won a number of cups in a row. I'm not suggesting these two teams are as dominant but it is a similar situation. I would argue, if Tampa wins 3 in a row, in this cap world that's a dynasty and then you have to start comparing them to those teams who have 3-5 cups. What's interesting to me is the first time the Oilers met the Isles in the finals they lost. It was the year after, once they'd learned what it took, it all started. That Oiler cup win though, was against an aging /. slowing team. While Tampa has alot of Vets, what's scary to me is, Hedman, Stamkos, Kuch, don't seem to be anywhere near slowing down. They have a few more runs left in them. Anyways, goaltending will be the difference here, Tampa in 7 is my call.

Isn't all of this the reason why Horvat would have more value in a trade and thus you keep the better player (even if he's 1.5 years older?). If you can get more for the player who's not as good, you have to consider it heavily. 1.5 years is not a huge difference. And a reminder, Horvat's contract is up at the end of next season as well and he will also be a UFA

why is that?

yes sounds like a solid pick. I won't be heartbroken if not though, he is a LD, and that's one of our strongest areas with QH/OEL/Rathbone coming

https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/sportsnets-2022-nhl-draft-prospect-rankings-final-edition/ Some interesting views in this article (new) from sportsnet....worth a read This draft projects to be one full of volatility and two key elements are contributing to the uncertainty. First, we have players who have missed significant development time. Second, we will have teams back on the draft floor, live and in-person which should lead to more conversation and more business getting done on or before July 7. The volatility may start as early as the first pick. Shane Wright, granted exceptional status into the OHL, has owned top spot for the better part of three years. But now he has two challengers in Logan Cooley and Juraj Slafkovsky, who had strong finishes to their respective seasons. It was clearly evident speaking to scouts and executives at the NHL Combine that the gap between Wright, Cooley and Slafkovsky is as tight as any draft we have experienced in recent times. Often there's a debate over the top two projected picks -- think Tavares/Hedman, or Taylor vs. Tyler -- but rarely the top three. Aside from this talented trio, things will start to scattershoot after the top eight picks, which is much earlier than we are used to. Typically, we have some certainty as to the first half of the draft, but this year we have some level of certainty in the first quarter of the opening round, or the first eight picks. There’s also volatility based on where we project the top-end defencemen to go, and how early will they go? Simon Nemec and David Jiricek sit in one tier, with the added value of shooting from the right side. Kevin Korchinski, Pavel Mintyukov, Denton Mateychuk and Owen Pickering occupy the second tier. After that, who knows?
