This could be a game changer, no puns intended. Suddenly Boeser, Garland and even OEL could now be very valuable well beyond what they are paid The cap saving could help with other "Hockey Trades" and the retention would last no longer than 4 years at the worst. Boston could still look at OEL at 3.65 million as a PP guy. OEL would fit better there not having to be the top dog. Minnesota is now a prime trade partner for Boeser at 3.25 mil especially if a player in their doghouse like Greenway or, not my favourite but Dumba come back. Garland to NYR for Miller looks very possible now, maybe Boston but they are pretty well set up. Schenn to Edmonton, they would jump all over this if it means keeping him away from Calgary next year. A top pick this year or a #1 in 2025 Horvat could be the lynch pin trade that resets the entire defence and adds to the forwards. I have blinders on but Columbus just seems so logical. A team bursting with young prospects that the Canucks need, Jiricek, a RHD, Sillinger or Johnson a local boy as a center, either one. Columbus has a stout defence corps already scoring is their issue A team that is in a win now window and obviously going for it. There would be only one more retention that could make a huge difference, Miller. Again I have blinders on, but Washington, NYI and Winnipeg all have cap space and old enough strong leadership to handle Miller and great need. Coming back would/could be in the form of picks two years away and prospects. Retain 50% this year unless used on other trades first then 1 to 1.5 mil for the remainder of the contract. IMO NYI might part with Romanov or Dobson.

With 13 team NTC Management also say they will retain on trades now. Likely Garland and Boeser gone maybe OEL too I am okay with this the term is short so next year he is another trade asset if they want. It does mean Horvat is out so maybe that is why he looked bummed out last night

[PGT] Vancouver Canucks at Seattle Kraken | Jan. 25, 2023

In my post I said it looked like he was distracted, he knew last night. "you don't know everything we do" - but they had said all year there was a number they would not go past, so where there is smoke .... -
Get one while getting alcohol, lots of alcohol. Liquor stores have the perfect size. Broadcast sure can filter out crowd noise and substitute cheers instead. But it was loud. That is why Tocchet was saying the Chicago game the crowd was super loud, it was piped in crowd noise.

[PGT] Vancouver Canucks at Seattle Kraken | Jan. 25, 2023

Like the Chicago game no surprise. Seattle had fun, even the fans with the "Bruce There It IS" chants when the score was 6 - 1 Just goes to prove Vancouver is an international joke and team to ridicule. Pettersson looked like he did under Green, lost. Miller looked like Miller, he was more defensive minded though but he is just not very good at it but he tried. Horvat looked like he was traded or told he was going to be traded, maybe he is going to Seattle? Schenn looked resigned to make the best of things and be more valuable to a contender, maybe he would like Edmonton, it's pretty close to Kelowna. Myers was trying too hard not to make a second mistake after the penalty which resulted in paralysis by analysis. OEL was playing himself off the team. Garland surprisingly was less of a rat. Tocchet looked ..... baffled, shocked, stunned, regretful. -
Maybe, but not until something substantial changes It is so obvious this core cannot improve enough to double the number of points they have now, 5 years is enough time

The only way to stop tanking is to make it draft based on an average standings over a number of years with limitations on how many of the top 4 picks any team can have over a 4 year period. They have to take the "one year tank" out of the equation. The lottery just make it worse with even more team tanking for an improved chance, tank for 20 or 30 games even a whole season but it is only one or two seasons is too easy even if not getting the 1rst overall. DFL may not get #1 but it does get #33 which is ne worse than the cup winner and subsequent rounds as well. On this draft #33 might still get an equivalent #18 in past drafts. The lottery encourages tanking

Who would replace Tyler Myers if he is traded/bought out?
ToTellTheTruth replied to Hectic's topic in Canucks Talk
Myers will be a hot commodity after July 1 on. The only thing Myers needs is time, a system that isn't changing every year, a coach that isn't changing every year, a partner that isn't changing every other game and playing on a team not having a losing culture. At 32 I doubt here is much any coach hasn't taught him. Many teams will trade for OEL at 3.2 mil a year, now that Tocchet is here I am sure the NMC will no longer be an issue. Canucks could do that trade now and gain 3.2 mil in cap space today. OEL playing in the wrong role is part of the changes in role, systems, type of ice time PP, PK which he wasn't really playing to much of in Arizona. The retention cost is not an issue with this management, they said that already because the cap going up will absorb an 8 million dollar cap hit in 5/6/7 years so 3.2 mil for 4 years in a heart beat. If Bear, Burroughs are still mainstays then there hasn't been enough improvement in depth, they should be 5/6 guys if that -
So many of the young fans just don't get how good he was. Ovechkin, McDavid and a mean streak rolled into one.

Who would replace Tyler Myers if he is traded/bought out?
ToTellTheTruth replied to Hectic's topic in Canucks Talk
An OEL trade with 50% retention is much better, maybe get something back, opens up a little over 3 mil in space and only lasts until 2027 whereas a buy out lingers until 2031 and takes up a retention spot and cap space 2 years with more than a 4 mil cap hit. Myers is not easily replaced and is valued across the league. His major problem ahs been there is no chemistry developed or after three coaches, system to play. Systems are not learned over night, they take time and are repetitive. 4 years here and 3 different coaches and systems with every defenceman to ever suit up for the team and that is a lot, play left side, play right side, play PK, do the defensive work in the dzone of two players when Hughes is on the ice. The money is a Benning issue not a player issue. There was almost no negotiations at all so it was a huge offer but then that was Benning's apparent MO, sign whatever the agent pushed across the table, I sometimes wondered if he could read. There is no player in the system available to replace being right handed, big and nasty with good leadership in the room. -
As expected they beat Chicago, coach bump and extra effort. But who would have thought Chicago would play so badly? That certainly isn't how they have played the last 8 games, this almost looked like they wanted the Canucks to get more space between them so there was no competition for DFL. Kane looked embarrassed that he scored. This team, Seattle is different, battling for a playoff spot. True the Canucks have had their number but another come back? Another SUPER PETEY effort with a cold I think they could win but I also think Seattle plays much better than the Nucks. What were the penalties again? I am not sure game management goes WITH the Canucks. Seattle wins this one.

Okay here is what s going to happen with Horvat. Nothing until the end of the season Because it has been stated over and over again they don't want picks back, they want 3 players, that means 5.5 million dollars worth of NHL roster players at the least, 2 or 3 lost causes. They are being too stubborn to change at this time. They won't want to confirm that next year would be a bad season so they will try to get as many points as possible to sucker fans into another "see we are good" for the 7 th time. Unless a RHD comes back like Columbus prospect like Jiriek or Boston's Carlo or Islanders Dobson, a few others out there. Another aspect is what have these guys been doing before? They have had super stars carrying the team proven HoFers. They never really had anything to trade with so never dived into research much. I hope there is a player revolt or at least more than 4 or 5 that quietly ask for a trade. The young guys have a hellva hammer if they ask or demand. Crosby had a lot of influence on the team when he was Pettersson's age. Smart hockey sense says they should make trades earlier, really push because teams just outside of having cap space right now will offer more to wait an extra couple of days while they make space. Waiting for cap space is as silly as not letting Bruce go and replacing him with Yeo until Tocceht was hired. They have cap space, it is already used for Horvat. The only reason they would need cap space is if they plan on spending it to win NOW.

Who will thrive and who won't survive under Rick?

What's the line? Or should I ask The Bookie? I bet, , it is whoever can goad a fight or two, I pity Schenn, a fight a night coming now. Who would you bet on? BET -
He will get them to win, he will beat them to win, he will fight them tooth and nail to win. I await round one of Miller Tocchet in the squared circle
-
They wanted cap space, then were patting themselves on the back for getting within 100 dollars of capped out, This is definitely THEEE MOST CHAOTIC and EMBARRASSING season since the owner was convicted WAAaaay back in 1970 and the lottery wheel win but really a loss. Bye bye Perrault All the double talk is insulting to fans

Chicago - the dragon is back, loss, Seattle - high scoring game - loss Columbus - pick em - OT NJD - they're hot - loss NYR - loss NYI - game in in 24 hours - loss Detroit - pick em win Detroit - loss NYR - loss Philly - win So - 2 - 7 - 1 Tocchet liked how good the Canucks played 6 on 5

Predict The Score Contest: VAN @ SEA January 25 2023

7-5 Kraken Dunn -
I liked JR's openness It was just that he said one thing and Allvin ignored everything and did his thing, the opposite. Allvin runs the team period. I hope Rutherford keeps informing fans about his thoughts anyway. Allvin so far, was a bad hire. Trying to be too tough with other GMs. He is like Benning, unsure of himself and scared to make a mistake especially after that disastrous contract for Miller. Truly I think he knew he was losing both and that is why he signed Boeser and Miller to over priced contracts. All this crud about not wanting to keep retention but do buyouts is so illogical. I think they aren't trading Horvat before the TDL without letting other teams talk to his agent is because they are worried a team will trade and then flip him for more by letting other teams talk to his agent. . IMO they will wait until the 12th hour to make any trades just so that doesn't happen. I knew technology was improving I just didn't think it extended to a hologram of Goncher at practices in the future
-
This group of coach killers have buried 2 other coaches already, some 3 coaches OEL broke his leg in summer and both are older I doubt Tocchet brought the fountain of youth with him. The new coach has not had enough time to make any difference except line selections and ice time. If one practice is enough why was Bruce ridiculed for a poor training camp? Even last year the team responded to a new voice but only because they had tuned Green out and they didn't like Green's system, pretty much the same system that Tocchet will use. I think there will be some benching, this game is about Tocchet establishing his dominance over the players, showing who is boss. OEL probably just waived his NMC.

Should they just sit Bo Horvat until they trade him?
ToTellTheTruth replied to Canuckfanforlife82's topic in Canucks Talk
So what team he played on means nothing? Playing with better players than Baertschi or Eriksson didn't make a difference? Playing a more relaxed way where the weight of the team isn't on his shoulders doesn't make a difference or a winning environment? His playoff stats are much better, just not enough of them Just the playoff stats are hugely in Horvat's favour. The job, what about what the player wants? His career is on the down side quickly, do you think maybe he wants success, to play for a cup? After 8 years, 4 head coaches, three GM's and over 375 losses he will be fooled like a fan that 8 weeks of having another change will insure a positive change or speed in a change of direction? That if he had a chance to go to say, Detroit where there is stability and a plan with lots of good young players closer to home he should turn it down for the same money? Or Columbus, Boston, Pittsburgh, Carolina or any number of winning teams? If winning a cup or just being in the playoffs doesn't make difference to a player is that a player you want on your team, one that doesn't care? Besides he has already said he is tired of all the losing publicly. Doesn't his explosion in play show how badly he wants out? He wants a big contract and now he can go to just about any team. He is 29 next month with maybe another 4/5 years of being a force. -

Is it really necessary to point out that Miller played on winning teams and wasn't the cornerstone of those teams? I would have thought the number of playoff games he played would be evident of that.
