Predict The Score Contest: VAN @ CAL December 14 2022

7-2 flames Lucic -
I think they are worried fans would get upset if they came out and stated they were cashing in the year. It would give other teams a little more leverage. But for the players that matter their jobs aren't on the line. This team is not good enough to have some players "pay the price" in pain or possible injuries. The lack of injuries oddly enough might be an indicator of "heart" The idea that they care about each other is assumed but there are cliques. Young guys maybe thinking the vets are getting special treatment?

[PGT] Minnesota Wild at Vancouver Canucks | Dec. 10, 2022

Before the writing was on the wall, when they still had a chance Miller, Pearson and Horvat tried to do the "energy" stand up game. But Pearson isn't around and Miller has his next contract and Bo isn't going to hurt his next pay day. The fringe guys will be very motivated but not so much the vets. I would not doubt even Schenn starts backing out more too. Sort of "Why get hurt for this team?" I watched and can barely hear any boo's but they were bad enough to be mentioned. They played a better team simple as that an they lost badly. -
I am sayin he is not enough to change anything, they are losers with him and win games with him but he isn't that relevant anymore to a losing team, this team that has too far to go just to make cap space let alone prospect depth. And at 34 if he is still a top player then this team is really toast. He is 28 yrs old this year. Don't want to get stuck with another Horcoff or even Smythe.

Time means nothing to spectators but being the player watching his skill decrease and his career end getting nearer and closer maybe they want to win too. If around too long without winning then a nightly performance becomes satisfactory, being a professional, paid entertainer. That is one thing about youth and may be a reason most cup winners lately are were/are led by very very young players who want to win, Pettersson has said this and Horvat a couple of years ago, tired of all the losing. Players are not dummies either they know a good team from a mediocre one. So many assumptions that players are like the Sedins who never wanted to try at the end of their careers to win a cup. Professionals. Paid for 82 games.
-
Are you saying he is the reason for winning 12 of 27games? The name on the front of the jersey is Canucks on Horvat's. He is just a player on a losing team. What has he done to deserve Sidney Crosby type money? Participate? What has the team done to deserve cup finalists type of money or winners or regularly appearing playoff teams? If the group hasn't cracked the egg after 5 years then it is just possible they won't in the next 5 either, more likely even. If they do then what? Hope like hell Demko and the backup can stop 50 shots a game repeatedly again? Competing for the 2nd WC spot and failing is so worthy of pay raises. Bure was traded, Linden, Naslund, Mogilny, so on and so on but the Canucks are still the team. If GM's are paying guys for fan appeal instead of performance why watch? "But they look good losing"
-
Already the site "Man games lost" have the Canucks are close to 100 games lost. Figure that one out. Let's see, Dermott and Ferland are good for 54, Poolman another 24, Pearson 13 so really no regular players except Pearson and the few the others have missed so far. But it is a stat used by media to make excuses for bad teams not to look so bad. The impact on the team from the above, some of who have hardly played the last 2 years, is marginal at best and misleading. Now if the players were the calibre of Colorado's injuries that is significant. The only one of Vancouver's is possibly Demko and he wasn't keeping the hip afloat very much this year.

That sounds like they cannot discuss possible trades with other clubs or free agents like Kuzmenko either. BUT Negotiating for the next contract and then changing their mind is allowed. That negotiated part can be a reference later after FA starts. The league cannot make a FA player move or ban them from negotiating with all teams. A Schenn/Kuzmenko deal could be all but concluded but it falls through as the team fails and changes direction. Then after the draft or gaining cap space the players agent already has a deal in hand. If they trade Schenn/Kuzmenko and then they give him the best offer even if there is no back room deal, maybe he wants to live here. Agents can do lots of things GM's can't, they can be go be tweens lurking in the shadows, they are not hindered by too many CBA rules and as most final negotiations are done by lawyers there is the client/lawyer protections.

The schedule maker is helping the cause of the illusion of parity and giving hope to many teams with gifts of wins. Back up goalie tonight Tired team Canucks could be in a playoff spot after the game, until other teams catch up in games played. This game should be a gimme, mail it in. Playing the 20th placed team. Playing a team with 13 wins and 13 losses, Vancouver - 12 wins and 15 losses

Chicago, Pittsburgh, Tampa 2X, LA, Detroit years ago, Ottawa, Toronto, ... all moved over 7 players, often core guys pretty quickly and tanked for 2/3 years getting top picks, Pittsburgh dropped 48 points to tank. -

They aren't the only ones. The league is suddenly over flowing with high scoring games and team. Buffalo just put another 7+ goal game, Edmonton is starting to ramp up. There have been more 10 goal games already than all of last year I do believe. I have been a fan for longer than some posters have been alive. In all those years Vancouver has never done a total rebuild. And never won a cup or even had the same group in a cup final twice. Those teams that do are tanking. Getting bad and then becoming good for a decade or longer and in cup finals more than once -

What if we bought out OEL? (Updated June 16 2023)
ToTellTheTruth replied to HKSR's topic in Canucks Talk
Can't buy him out. If the team does a rebuild they will need big contracts on the books for another 2 to 3 years At that time a buyout will not hinder future trads too much There is no avenue where buying him out now is good for the team. -

So what do the last 3 games show? The Canucks can compete and win in OT, three bottom teams, one that had 4 rookie defencemen, and all rebuilding and tanking for Bedard. Still needed OT. High scoring is fun and exciting if the team is a winner. 12 wins, 15 losses. -

No 1997 to 2014 - Saddled with an internal cap he did get them a cup final and a cup within his first 7 years. The internal cap continued most of his tenure there as well as attendance and ownership struggles. In Vancouver he probably has something he never had there, an open cheque book and flexibility. In Pittsburgh he had two super stars and a few star players as well but capped out with a hands on owner. He was able to find cheap contracts and got back to back cups. He has not had a market that was ready to blow it up before. Nor has he had such a bad team to start off with having so many serious issues. In truth, this it is hard to find any NHL team that was this compromised without being a winner for a long time first, hard to find, ever. -
These rumours have been around for more than a week before Elliotte mentioned them, LA has been in on Demko for quite awhile, Horvat and the team not talking contract is from the summer on, Schenn has always been the subject of desirable for a TDL deal, Boeser has been on the hot plate for a couple of weeks. All this stuff is out there before Elliotte AND Dahli confirm they have substance. Just because it doesn't play into the fan concept that if things stay the same they will be better or prizes are presents, just given away because it suits that fan's concept of continuity. Change happens or stagnation. There has been no change of significance for 4 years, pressure has been building. If any of this is a surprise to some fans it is only because they aren't looking or depending upon very few sources. Ya, now someone says the name the sources crap, if you can't be bothered to look up yourself then maybe take the time to peruse the forum for when the thoughts of problems may have started or when the first mentions of trading started. If you can't be bothered to find information, current information and not the canned stuff spewed at every game or player interview why ask to satisfy your laziness. Did anyone ever find the Luongo trade demand from him and yet is was well known that happened but the player never said a word so why would any of the players say that now? There have been comments made like, "tired of all this losing" and Miller's "I want out" and Pettersson's "to see where the team is then, I want to play in the playoffs" now Pettersson knows enough that he can't do it all by himself so he must be referring to the entire team right? So many fans want to believe these "professional mercenaries" want to stay here, why? Winning? What if the players don't want to be here how could they say that without words? How about inconsistency? Or padding their own stats? Stats players. Negativity, win and there isnone, lose more and more and there is more and more. Simple Enough of that vein of education; The Canucks were plain lucky they won the last game, 8 power plays four really dumb penalties taken by the Yotes, 2 PP goals to win 3-2. As far as consistency they have been playing pretty much the same all along just getting a break from bad option goaltending, 2 goals on 3 shots type of thing and a goalie stealing a game. I know, Bruce's 32-15 -? record last year keeps being brought but the rest of the teams in the league took them lightly and there was the surge from a new coach being there, it didn't really mean that they were that good. If you believe that then why so bad for so long before? On purpose? Sorry got away from the thread. Montreal is in year one of a rebuild, they have a first line all younger than EP and their 2nd line younger than the Nucks. They will not be taking delay of game penalties and too many men on the ice. They are a bad match up for the Canucks, mind you many teams are but I think they win easily

[PGT] Arizona Coyotes at Vancouver Canucks | Dec. 03, 2022
ToTellTheTruth replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
Sometimes when a message is being sent to someone that you really don't want to attract attention to you point a finger at someone under that person's command knowing that person is locked into a confined set of rules or circumstances. Bruce is under Allvin's "command" and what is said about him is really directed at the commander, the buck stops with him. JR's criticism if anything empowers Bruce more because he can only deal with what he has been dealt. Rutherford is walking a thin line, support the guy you hired, Allvin, and take some of the heat off him. The amount of Boudreau stuff is all the result of Allvin's job performance, it is easier to put heat on Allvin through Boudreau because Bruce is on an expiring contract. Rutherford was not born last night all those criticisms could be directly at Allvin but if he did that Allvin is gone. Rutherford is smart enough to know if the heat is on a guy leaving then the heat is reduced for awhile, I think this Bruce stuff is just a delaying tactic to gain time for Allvin and the 3 assistant GM's. Not losing to Arizona was just dumb luck -

That win should be a real wake up call for fans to see how bad this group is. Going 2 for 8 on the PP is the only reason they won and Arizona took 4 dumb penalties, two for too many men and two for delay of game, that is why they lost the game. Vancouver didn't beat them they were lucky the Yotes made dumb mistakes. Arizona is on a brutal road trip again. A dull game where the big stories are a player almost being benched and another getting a hit record and the music type. Montreal won't make those types of mistakes -
Nah, no emotion, resignation nothing will change and shame for hanging on. I just don't like one player blamed for a problem not of his making. Pick out any name and the team is losing and losing and losing. Miller should know better, Hughes is supposed to be so good he walks on water, why isn't he carrying this kids baggage a bit. Petey is deciding or that decision is being made for him and Horvat is playing looking relieved, like his decision is already made.
