[Signing] Rangers sign Jaroslav Halak
ToTellTheTruth replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Wrong thread Last night Chyrchun was sat due to a trade possibility. Scares the hell out of me because of the Tocchet connection to Arizona and what they want in a trade. Two firsts, Canucks have two, player, Canucks have plenty and a AAA prospect, Canucks just got one and may have two others. And a huge Canuck need is for a defenceman Allvin was very explicit about mentioning his thoughts that the Horvat trade was for equivalent of three first rounders. That statement at the time was odd to me and just trying to soften Horvat being traded but now ...... Should not have to wait long to see if the player the Canucks could have taken cost 3 times as much now Big rumour is LA but until the deal is done. -
Tank Hard for Bedard - Playoff chances are already Slim
ToTellTheTruth replied to Provost's topic in Canucks Talk
While never getting to the bottom the team can still make some trades. If some how they can move Miller and Schenn that could be the the straw that assures a 30th place finish and at least a top 5 pick in this really deep draft. If they got to 30th that would also get them a very good 2nd round pick, they could get at least three good players out of this years draft class. IMO Allvin and his Chipmunks could retool/rebuild/build this team within this year and the next and with astute trading for 2025 draft picks be more than enough to convince Pettersson that years of playoffs and a cup run are 4 years away. -
C'mom you know damn well all Horvat said was that he was tired of all the losing and wanted to play in the playoffs, it was reported at the same time that Miller said he wanted out he had enough. But a house in Vancouver? Why not it would have been a great investment for the future. Many players come to Vancouver for retirement and what year did Horvat buy? Wasn't it 2018/19 after he signed his last contract? You know as well as I do that renting is just buying a house for someone else. What difference now? Horvat is gone and the team plays the same, still needs 5 goals to get close to success. Besides this is a Pettersson thread and there is no doubt his thoughts when he signed his last contract is there. Although they are marketing that he didn't have a choice because of the cap, which is a pile of dung! They easily could have given him a longer term if he wanted. While that could change time will tell how fast the next contract is signed. He doesn't appear to be a shallow thinker.

The deserving(?) downfall of the Vancouver Canucks
ToTellTheTruth replied to kilgore's topic in Canucks Talk
I am of the opinion that there is enough places to point fingers but the only one's and the biggest is this; The fans that sucked up all the very obvious bad moves and got sucked into buying more and more of the "Sting". As long as they keep letting themselves be led around by the nose ring, following like lemmings or accepting being treated like mushrooms teams like this will continue. In the states the arena would be half full with a team like this for this long and management would do something to correct it. Some markets in the states that are not generational might keep getting fooled but it is embarrassing the Vancouver fell into this level. It is no wonder that Rutherford and Allvin were surprised that this market actually has knowledge and now cares how business is done. The curtain of fallacy of how a team is run, the supposed mystery has been debunked and fans are now waking up to being suckered for a decade of bad moves, incredibly bad. It took being the worst run franchise in NHL history by one GM for that to happen. While the video hits on some very evident areas it misses on things like the amount of money spent by one GM for the amount of wins. Benning spent over/close to a billion dollars for Hockey Operations, salaries of coaches, GM's, scouts, farm team, players, outside medical contractors, outside marketers/astro surfers and other expenses. In his time here, 2014 to December 5 2021 = 556 games with 242 regulation and OT wins 314 losses. 242/556 = 0.435 win percentage and that is with his first year, mostly Gillis's team still of 48 wins, take that out and 474 games and 194 wins 194/474 = 0.409 win percentage. Video shows the number of first round picks, it doesn't do justice to the missed/blown picks but does mention the one traded possible Guenther, the other is a NJD selected Russian RHD defenceman Mukhamadullin, albeit a prospect yet. No GM in NHL history had as many top ten and first round picks that are not here any longer in such a short tenure, essentially 2 top six picks gone for nothing, might as well not happened, three 1rst's traded away, that is like five years of building with home grown players. The stench of Benning's regime, supported by some fans will linger yet for another 4 years or cost the team more of the future one way or another to fix. Fans got sucked into thinking of individual players rather than the big and really important picture, the team. Now there is a rookie front office that was totally unprepared for an educated (by the school of hard knocks) fan base that will support media that holds their feet to the fire and even occasionally can think like hockey executives thanks to and via the information super highway. But that Benning era should also be square on the fan's shoulders too for being so naïve and gullible! Fooled the fans once shame on you, Fool us twice shame on us! -
That was a bit of a surprise. When looking at the schedule this was the game I thought they had the best chance of winning of the four road games. But 1 win and three losses has not changed the team's circumstances. Trade rumours are picking up, 17 scouts at that game and Detroit isn't the team that is jettisoning players.
-
The proof now is that they, Canucks AND Miller's agent made statements contrary to that information, why would they make those statements and start a firestorm if not in existence? Why would they deny something that wasn't out there? They state a fake account. But can anyone find it amongst the astro surfing of that information now? There should be pages and pages of that comment real or fake because it was hot enough to cause them to react.

Well with Detroit sitting out 2 of their top 3 scorers that makes a change. Yzerman is no dummy. -

Totally the wrong thread but; There is a fantasy trade that could help both teams, maybe not by the TDL but who knows. Trade Miller, Boeser, Garland, and Schenn then resign him next year. Winnipeg might not be a favourite destination for most NHL players so trading for players with term may be their preference. If Dubois sticks to his guns and wants out he has a massive trade value to recoup anything they may trade now. Columbus maybe a trade partner because they are win now, this year was just anomaly, early injuries killed them that and too many young players/prospects and not enough veterans. Too many young players, don't see that much with a team in a "win now" window. The Canucks could give them a second line. Washington because there is still doubt about Backstrom's surgery, no player has lasted after one like he had, it isn't technique it is anatomy. Pittsburgh because of Crosby and Malkin. Vegas because they are in all the time at whatever the cost, they seem to be able to do what everyone else says can't be done. Any of the Canuck assets named can be made attractive and the results would complete a "build" within 2 years, Pettersson's and Demko's (if he is healthy or not trade for a small ransom) window. Some of those teams are long term needs, now. Especially if they want another playoffs. The idea being that trading them quickens up and opens any and all possibilities. This is SOOOOo not the right thread for these comments

Better look at your dates your out by 2 1/2 years too late most of those were traded in September 2018; . San Jose Sharks acquire Date Ottawa Senators acquire Erik Karlsson Francis Perron September 13, 2018 Josh Norris Chris Tierney Rudolfs Balcers Dylan DeMelo 2019 2nd round pick 2019 or 2020 conditional 1st round pick 2021 conditional 1st or 2nd round pick 2022 conditional 1st round pick Comment: The 2019 2nd rounder is the better of San Jose's own or Florida's own, previously acquired. If the Sharks miss the playoffs in 2018-19, the 2019 or 2020 first-rounder will be in 2019; otherwise, it’s a 2020 first-round pick that will go to Ottawa. If the Sharks re-sign Karlsson the Senators receive a conditional second-round pick in 2021 which would become a first-round pick if the Sharks make it to the Stanley Cup Final in 2019. If Karlsson is on an Eastern Conference roster (reserve list during the 2018-19 season, the Sharks would have to send the Senators an additional first-round pick no later than 2022. The rest come by the end of 2020 New York Islanders acquire Date Ottawa Senators acquire Jean-Gabriel Pageau February 24, 2020 2020 conditional 1st round pick 2020 2nd round pick 2022 conditional 3rd round pick Comment: The 2020 1st round pick shifts to a 2021 1st round pick if the Islanders' pick is in the top three this year. The 2022 3rd round pick will only transfer to the Senators if the Islanders win the Stanley Cup this year. Columbus Blue Jackets acquire Date Ottawa Senators acquire Matt Duchene Julius Bergman February 22, 2019 Vitaly Abramov Jonathan Davidsson 2019 1st round pick 2020 conditional 1st round pick Comment: 2020 pick conditional on Duchene resigning with Colombus, lottery protected if it’s a top 3 pick. Vegas Golden Knights acquire Date Ottawa Senators acquire Mark Stone February 25, 2019 Erik Brannstrom Oscar Lindberg 2020 2nd round pick At best they started in 2019, 2 1/2 Seasons ago.

They were tanking with Stone, Duchene, Chabot, Dzingel, Anderson, Tkachuk, Ryan, Pageau, Paul, tradeing away picks for vets.... seems to me that was not a rebuild and a pretty good core to build around which apparently they were trying to do. The trades for the tank didn't start until at the earliest is TDL 2018 and through summer when they traded away Duchene, Stone, Karlsson and the other 20 trades made in the 2019/20 season which were for picks and prospects. They trade for an additional 30+ picks in two years, that is what a tear down and rebuild looks like. Your in Ottawa and think the current team is worse than what you had? Have to be an employee to try to spin that

They changed the draft rules again, only 10 teams in on the #1 so that makes finishing DFL a 25% chance at first, 2nd and 3rd last also gets a big boost. Only the top two spots are lottery so a team cannot fall more than 2 spots and #4 or 5 this year can/will be star players and the #34 a good NHL player, imagine if that Russian kid fell to 34 and the Canucks were there, in 2025/26 he comes to the NHL as a finished player, what a boost to any team. Kuzmenko X 3 or at least a Kaprizov. He could because of where he is and the need from winning teams now. Buffalo and Montreal cannot win the lottery for first overall either this year either, no team can win first overall more than once within 5 years. So the odds are even better. No lotto picks, okay their number is due. Evidently it isn't just the position but the player picked as well. IMO the whole draft lottery has been flawed from the start, it should have been an average standings of a set number of years with the limitation on teams that are in the lottery with the no #1 over a set number of years. IMO that would make tanking a four or five year effort instead of a two or three month attempt for a better chance. The Canucks have been god awful but by accident. Imagine if they decided to tank for McD or Mathews? Or drafted any of the top ten instead of those #5 and #6 selected players that failed. That is part of this core. Missing core. In THIS deep draft the closer to the bottom regardless of getting the number one at all, the 34th player taken could be equal to last years 15th. Get a few more this draft could be the foundation of years of success with cap controlled contracts allowing for sensible signings and trades. Ottawa took 3 years and they are very close to being in and far ahead of the Canucks, Buffalo essentially started another rebuild 2 years ago, NJD are in year three. This could be year one for the Canucks IF they can move out enough salary and get more draft picks for this year and the 2025 draft class. So Miller, Garland, Myer, OEL are your core? Because they have been for the last few years As the title of your avatar states that core is gone you may have been hanging on too long This conversation has gone way beyond the thread intended content.

Predict The Score Contest: VAN @ DET February 11 2023

4-2 Detroit Raymond GWG I picked Raymond and he is out, but if not him how about Bert? -
They won!!! They still had to score 5 or more goals, so not much different Except It was a back to back game and they didn't sag in the third period. But overall it doesn't change much except more players look good for their trade auditions Problem was they weren't "A rebuild would not be fair to the Sedins" Don't take this too personally but that is a very naïve statement. Every team tanks. They all know where the superstars come from. Tanking is so evident, just look at the standings over the years. It was so prevalent that new draft rules were brought in. Your mixing up a perineal bottom feeder with a team that drops dramatically, tanks and starts winning in short order. Where did all the super stars in the league come from? Why did some teams trade bunch of players and then drop in the standings? "To see what is in the system", "a salary dump", "to change direction", "trying to get a better draft spot" and then the outright team letters. Top five picks are almost all winners, almost. But to have two failures in the top 6 by one GM is not heard of or been done before.
-
I would say Buffalo's 2nd rebuild or Ottawa's 3 year rebuild or even Montreal's first year or NJD 4 year rebuild or Colorado's 6 year rebuild are all doing better than the Canucks 9 year whatever or even since 2017 onward re-whatever. This year could be the first year of a true "build" after major surgery. No matter how good these past player have been they have proven they can't win with this team as it stands, they haven't been good enough and there are not enough of them. If it takes as long to have more like them then they will be aged out by the time the next group reaches their level.
-
They can force Petey to stay for two more years after next year using arbitration I think No the 2017 draft was not like some where the players are talked about years early, Nolan Patrick was the undisputed number one and the depth of rthe draft was so bad he was still the favourite even though he missed most of the draft year. 2025 already has 3 players to watch, two appear to be real studs so far. 2017 was not that great, there is only one player with over 100 goals, guess who, Pettersson and only 4 with 200 points and 12 with 100 points or more. There have been worse but not many. 2017 Patrick was a player injured a lot his last draft year and he ended up being a bomb. Pettersson was the number one ranked Euro and is the second best drafted player next to Makar.
-
They have to hope to hit two home runs this draft the 2024 draft doesn't look very deep but the 2025 draft will have two or three top 5 picks that could step right in but this coming draft is what could influence Petey. Otherwise build around this year's picks and trade for 2025 picks. If that means trading EP for more top picks then so be it, I have had many decades of watching the favourite son but not winning anything
-
4 or 5 years? He was drafted 7 years ago. You do know he is 25 next season, this year in November right? Like I did post though it is those around him, where are the young star players? Not the guys looing good on this losing team but the top players versus their peers? Young meaning the 20 year old's? Any of those mentioned will likely be complimentary players, star level players are making the team at younger ages. I don't count players that are not on the team or NHL as big contributors. I like Hoglander, lots of energy but the NHL doesn't like him, Lim is slow, he is not a Taveras that is a scoring machine. Raty still has possibilities mostly because Lamerellio likes vets over rookies but he has to make a dent when he gets a chance, remember Pettersson, Boeser, Horvat and Hughes all made an impression out of the box and that is what is needed now times two. Not 21 year old 3rd/4th line AHL veterans, those are needed but the big need is for top six stars and two more top 2 defencemen at least and those don't exist on this team
-
Injuries. Defence depth will be challenged. Schenn may not play, they should sit him, I think he tweeked his back, that usually needs a few days of rest to correct even after seeing a chiropractor. Hughes will be seeing double and breathing could be an effort. Both should sit out a couple of games. The Canucks let in 5 goals and the Islanders will not be backing off the way the Devils and Rangers did, both those teams didn't give 100%. I expect a loss, the AHL guys will play hard and give effort, the 3rd/4th lines will perform hopefully Boeser looks good for those eastern teams trade possibilities. Game management could be an issue to equalize
