Overview
In part two of deja vu the Canucks play the Rangers after having only played them last week. The Canucks took the Defence for Dummies live session after their loss against the Wings and will look for gold stars from their teacher Mr Tocchet tonight unless they are feeling revolutionary.
The Rangers are feeling very good at present, riding a 5-game win streak and opening up a 7 point gap between 3rd in the Metropolitan division and the first wildcard position. They've scored 6 goals in their past two games, with Panarin breaking a 9-game goal-less streak with 4 against the Canes, Zibanejad recording 5 goals in 5 games and Chytil scoring 4 in the same period. New addition Tarasenko will play on the top line while talented youngster Kravstov is on the bench after asking for a trade. With the Alberta two-step coming up we should see Shesterkin but former Canuck Halak has played well in relief too.
With Martin in the minors and Demko not up to speed we will see big sexy silovs in net. Our favorite Latvian Silovs may not be so eager to start when he sees the blueline in front of him but those who wear the bowtie fear nothing. We may see podz on a line with pettersson at some stage tonight, perhaps even with Kuzmenko if Tocchet wants to try it out.
The tank is rolling on although perhaps Demko and Silovs will slow it soon.

GAWDZUKES'S BO TRADE NYI PICK WATCH
If Islanders finish in the top-16 then they are outside the lottery and Canucks take their pick in the 2023 draft.
If Islanders finish between 17-32 in regular seasons standings (1-16 in draft) then they enter the draft lottery.
- If they won the lottery drawing in the first or second drawing then they would move up 10 spots and then the Canucks pick gets moved to the 2024 draft.
- If they don't get chosen in the 2 drawings and pick at spots 13 to 16 then the Canucks get their pick in the 2023 draft.
- If they don't get chosen in the 2 drawings and pick at spots 1 to 12 then the Canucks pick gets moved to the 2024 draft.

kuthusnutsov also had a terrible night fir the caps too, was jt miller in december with the backpasses and passes to the other team.
-
It's also quite astounding to see how good brett burns is at 37 vs oel at 31. Burns had a higher ceiling i know but he does it all still.

Caps were decent without ovenchicken. Canes scrambled well and got goals from simple screens.

think deeper. No GM's going to trade you Bedard and risk possibly being called the stupidest GM in the century. If any GM trades away Bedard and Bedard goes on to become the next Crosby on the other team. Bam. 10 out of 10 GMs will just go with the flow and draft Bedard.
This is why you are asking for the impossible.
I'm thinking of a team like Columbus. They want to win now. Miller and hughes and nj's 1st would help them a lot. Steep price but i think that's the level that makes it possible.

I still like dvorsky, he's not top 4 but i think he's going to score a lot.

I guess you get the espn feed there?

The only good thing about going to the caps/canes game tonight is that I don't really care who wins. Sucks that ovenchicken is out.
I don't think i'll wear canucks gear as i'm likely to get too much sympathy or weirdness.
What's the unwritten rule? I guess it's don't wear an out of town jersey

Now i get to go and see the ovenchicken caps play the canes. Least wilson isn't playing so i don't have to boo him all night.
Only question is whether to be that guy and wear a canucks shirt. I'll probably get nothing but sympathy or strange looks.

Bear's been struggling ever since Bruce left. I guess it makes him cheaper to sign as an RFA

I thought swedish gallagher would have been claimed by now. He did score against us, i mean who hasn't?

That’s 1 goal for every 7 shots on Martin

The tank will miss him, unless demko doesn't feel good in which case he can return to assist!

NHL Stats is pretty good for numbers (their data exporting kinda sucks).
I really like being able to sort by game and you can then pick a range, so for example October 12-Jan 21 is bruce's reign if you want to compare.

I go on vacation and come back to people talking about stillman (praise be) in a positive light unironically
@Coconuts @OldFaithfulCap what's going on here?!
Myers and OEL have become so bad that Stillman no longer worries about being the worst on his team. Freed from his lowly status he took up yoga, llama grooming and swedish death cleaning and the balance off the ice has led to him being more physical, driving to the net and passing (set up a goal and created a chance last night) and even his shooting is more on target.

What's our goalies' save % during that same period? I'm guessing it's got to be sub 85%.
It's a bit early but here's the comparison so far stats-wise and goalie wise. @Alflives is right with %

When teams need to rebuild this is what it looks like. The owner didnt want to go through it but they have no choice now. Tocchet is a loser coach for a loser bunch of players. Good hire because he will keep them bottom feeders for draft picks for a while. The real rebuild will not start until they can figure out a way to unload OEL. Buyout or otherwise.
A few things to keep in mind for the tank crowd
1 Columbus and Chicago are not likely to go on any long term win streaks even if we do not win another game. so we are not going to finish in the top 2
2 Finishing in the top 5 would give us a slight chance at Bedard however our lottery results have been abysmal at best and its more likely CB would come back as a free agent than us winning his rights in the draft lottery.
3 We really need to think about building this team properly. What we need at the draft is a stud D man. Somewhere we also need a young goaltending prospect.Demko wont be around as this team develops so who is going to be the guy to carry the load as the starter?
4 Petey and Hughes wont want to just hang out while we rebuild. Its not a 2 year fix. Pettersson isnt going to resign in this circus for any amount of money and Hughes is going to demand a trade sooner than later. Losing wears on you physically and mentally.
5 Rebuilds will take 5 years at least. Draft the best players we can, and play them in the juniors and minors until we have assembled the talent we need to be ultra competitive. No more 18 year olds stepping into the lineup.
Lastly, as bad as this is we still have a team to cheer for. Its going to be a lot of losing for the next few years. Get used to it. Look for the bright spots. Watch for improvement in players and the team. We will have a bunch of AHL quality players in the meantime and it will be a few bleak springs but if we get going today it will be quicker to rebuild. As some one that has gone through every season of this, you have to look to the future when we have these down cycles. Cheers,
Definitely agree with the tocchet call but he still has time to show progress next season (very doubtful in my opinion).
This draft is forward loaded so if we had a good scouting department (which we don't) then we could find a good potential d-man with the isles pick or later rounds. Silovs looks like a decent prospect in net but always great to find more too.
I think vancouver has always been a good city for swedes. We'll see what pettey wants but i expect a pettey vs tocchet rift if tocchet stays old school.
