Canuck Goaltending: What gives and where to from here?
OldFaithfulCap replied to JamesB's topic in Canucks Talk
NHL.com, sportsnet and other sites do a terrible job of including backup and other stats in the main area. I've been manually adding in Delia's stats for weeks now and it's kinda depressing watching his numbers (and martin's) get worse but it does sum up the season. -
Media TV: Sportsnet, Hulu+ (USA) Radio: Sportsnet 650 Overview The Canucks hit the Big Apple in the season of the Big unofficial tank with the Rangers tonight and the Islanders tomorrow in a back-to-back. Tocchet had Podkolzin with Miller in practice yesterday but few other changes were noted so we may see the same line-up that lost in OT against the Devils. It was a fairly good performance apart from a minute of madness where they gave up 3 goals and their win hopes were dashed by a rare Powerplay in OT. The Abbottsford call-ups performed well last game, with Di Giuseppe scoring a goal, Aman being physical and Podz being a menace and driving to the net. New beau/bo had a decent outing with a nice pass to spring EP for a breakaway being a possible start to chemistry. Martin will start tonight, hoping to not allow 5. The Rangers have a lot to play for, only 4 points separates them from the Caps in a competitive Metro division and they are coming off an exciting Overtime win of their own. Shesterkin has been off since the All-star break but we may seem him and his top ten goals and save percentage tonight. Chytil has been on a tear of late for the Blueshirts, scoring 6 goals in 4 games and Zibanejad has two 2-goal outbursts in his last 5. The Rangers captain Trouba had a big effort against the Flames, registering 6 hits, many of them huge and had 2 fights including a battle with former Canuck Tanev though Blais on Lucic was quite a highlight. Tocchet is working on his systems but with the Canucks sitting only 4 points back of 3rd lottery spot we know what the best result will be for the team tonight. MATCH-UP INFO Tonight marks the first of two meetings between the Canucks and Rangers this season: Feb. 8 (away), and Feb. 15 (home). Vancouver is 38-78-8-3 all-time against New York, including a 17-41-5-2 record on the road. The Canucks are 6-2-2 in their last 10 games against the Rangers, including 5-0-0 in their last five. Recent Canucks acquisition Anthony Beauvillier leads active Canucks skaters in career points against New York with 23 (13-10-23 in 27 GP), his highest point total against a single team in his NHL career. Oliver Ekman-Larsson has 10 points (2-8-10) in 17 career games against the Rangers. J.T. Miller has nine points (4-5-9) in nine career games against the Rangers. Luke Schenn leads active Canucks in career games played (37) against New York. Spencer Martin has yet to face the Rangers in his NHL career. Collin Delia has played one career game vs New York, turning aside 29 of 32 shots. QUICK NUMBERS Quinn Hughes has 14 points (4-10-14) in his last 11 games. Elias Pettersson has 15 points (4-11-15) in his last 13 games. J.T. Miller has 15 points (5-10-15) in his last 14 games. Andrei Kuzmenko has 12 points (7-5-12) in his last 13 games. Conor Garland has five points (1-4-5) in his last five games. Stats Lineups Canucks Rangers TANK FOR BEDARD BOWL STANDINGS GAWDZUKES'S BO TRADE NYI PICK WATCH If Islanders finish in the top-16 then they are outside the lottery and Canucks take their pick in the 2023 draft. If Islanders finish between 17-32 in regular seasons standings (1-16 in draft) then they enter the draft lottery. - If they won the lottery drawing in the first or second drawing then they would move up 10 spots and then the Canucks pick gets moved to the 2024 draft. - If they don't get chosen in the 2 drawings and pick at spots 13 to 16 then the Canucks get their pick in the 2023 draft. - If they don't get chosen in the 2 drawings and pick at spots 1 to 12 then the Canucks pick gets moved to the 2024 draft.

next is rangers, then islanders. I'll do the rangers in the morning if no one else wants to. Happy to not do the isles if you want to,

Blackouts were originally meant to help teams keep local fans so they'd go to the game instead of watch on tv. A pretty stupid idea anyway but then they became a way to make people get cable etc. I love that i couldn't hulu stream the caps @ canucks game as i live near dc. Thankfully the only other games that i miss out on are tnt cable games (i think there are about 2 left involving the canucks). I really thought that the tv deal and merch was bigger than the gate. I mean the southern us teams ticket prices are crazy low and the arenas are full of free tickets and inflated phantom crowd numbers.

You gave an example of a jersey that actively opposes support for the gay community. That's a nice way of saying hate. There was also a false equivalency of the kkk before too by others. I stated my personal opinion about the city aspect but that's my view. My take for how teams should operate is fairly similar to yours, let the players wear a generic no hate/human rights jersey instead if they have an issue. You could argue for a regular practice jersey too but that is worse optics. Think of it this way. Spencer martin has the cross and a verse on the back of his jersey. If he wanted to boycott diwali night warmups as it was against his faith then he could wear a generic no hate to show support against east asian hate crimes. If he didn't want to do that and was able to wear a regular jersey then so be it but i would expect some backlash from the indian community. As a team, optics matter.

The logic is based on human rights for all and accepting diverse experiences, its not about boycotts which are a tool. Diversity doesn't mean anything goes, it means encouraging positive steps to share and learn from differences. The hate groups do not positively seek dialogue and do not need to be included. Countries based on the western legal tradition have all expanded their concepts of freedom and human rights and while they are flawed in their past and some actions they are slowly making progress. This therefore flows into the culture and their sporting teams. Your examples are happening. Christian ronaldo signed to play in the middle east, the liv golfers backed by saudis are all supporting countries with oppressive records against women and the lgbtqa+ community. Would I support a player who opposed those beliefs and who wanted to boycott them there? Sure but then taking their money and signing there already tells you their beliefs. If they want to put themselves in harms way in a country without western legal protection then i salute their bravery but not the logic of their decision. I do agree that idolizing athletes or corporations for ethics is unwise but we can at least support positive actions like bandaids being in non-white tones.

Kings vs Canucks would be a pacific division game on the other side of the Pacific. Very symmetrical.

The best option is to have pride or specific jerseys and then a generic one saying "no hate" or "human rights for all". Players who have issues with specific jerseys can wear those (if they object to those then automatic game suspension for missing a team activity) I think teams should strongly encourage those abstaining players to not discuss their reasons with the media. Fans aren't dumb and may boo players still but it lessens it. The issue of individual beliefs vs sporting teams has only increased lately as well. I personally detest gambling but the Caps have Caesar's sportsbook patches on their home jerseys. The NHL bans alcohol, smoking, marijuana and anything sexual related as well. But what about state owned businesses that use Uyghur labor or middle east companies that use the kafala system of modern day slavery. Could a kraken player object to having amazon on their helmet over their treatment of factory workers? The difference in these cases seems to be that sponsorship = direct money but its a battle that has and will play out. The simplest thought i have on the pride jerseys is that players play for a team which represents a city. A city of people with all different experiences including that community. If you can't do one small token gesture for 20 mins with zero risk (i believe asking for forgiveness is a christian tenet if a player fears sin) then you're putting yourself above the team and its fans and the fans will see and note this.
