  1. hail satan?: 8/10. pretty good doc about the satanic temple/church - quite funny at times, with absurd characters on both sides of the debate. difficult to not side with the sAtANIsTs when it's all said and done crawl: 4/10: can't remember if i already rated this one. surprise, it sux one cut of the dead: 6/10. pretty cute, but maybe the worst score i've heard in a non-80s movie
  2. been meaning to watch this one for a while, always forget about it is it on any streaming services or did you have to dl?
  3. weezer's blue album has aged wonderfully. never got into anything else they did (minus a few singles), but that blue one is pure gold
  4. 2019 has been one of the best years for movies in a long time, i think. which, of course, isn't saying a whole lot since it's been a bit of a wasteland out there. but still, i've seen so much great sh-t this year
  5. parasite: 8.5/10. was skeptical about this one after being bored to death by other hyped korean movies. this one actually delivers imo. really has it all - totally bizarre, great sets, great acting, funny dialogue, shocking violence, has a message
  6. the great beauty: 5/10. a few good scenes, but this movie is like a critique of filthy rich boomers in high italian society -- cutting commentary like: maybe it's not so great to get botox after all? and maybe there's something to not being superficial? paolo sorrentino is talented and i'd consider myself a casual fan, but the praise this movie gets (including best foreign film at the oscars) is baffling to me
  7. jojo rabbit: 8/10. not very funny, but definitely good for a couple laughs. gets a high score in large part for the unexpected emotional punch
  8. mandy: 6.5/10. really good for an indie horror/action movie, but it could have been a lot better. first hour is wonderful, slowly falls off soon after
  9. 'horror'/halloween rundown: the dead don't die: 5/10. worst i've seen from jarmusch nightbreed: 2/10. god i hated this the gruesome twosome: 6/10. there's something charming about herschell gordon lewis' vulgarity - he's like a slightly better john waters the gore gore girls: 5.5/10. okay, but not THAT charming the purge: 4.5/10. zzzzzzzzzzzz. monster squad: 4/10. loved it as a kid. trash as an adult, but i guess it was watchable through the nostalgia.
  10. the lighthouse: it has literally everything. great visuals, great dialogue, great music, fantastic acting (esp from defoe), obscure enough to generate conversation but simple enough even if you aren't the curious type even with my skyhigh expectations i wasn't let down, and i already wanna see it again
  11. scream: 4/10. surprised by how much i disliked this, but i probably shouldn't be from dusk till dawn: 0/10. can't find a single redeemable thing about this movie, minus some observations about salma hayek. tarantino wrote the script which includes a totally unnecessary scene of a 90% naked salma hayek pouring liquor down her leg -- he then sucks it off her toes. in other words, this movie is 90s male fantasy trash
  12. i feel like i would have to go into therapy if i watched that geyser ejaculation scene next to my mom i'm currently trying to figure out how to scrub it from my netflix algorithm, as it keeps recommending i watch A Haunted House now.
  13. now onto the october spookfest. nothing but cheap thrills, weird stuff, and ''''scary'''' trash for the next couple of weeks. Cropsey: 5/10. documentary about a staten island killer/urban legend. not good. Scary Movie: 2/10. horrendous. writers of this would be executed in today's social climate, gave me a couple of laughs though, won't lie
  14. saw Joker for the second time, liked it a bit more than the first viewing won't you be my neighbour: cute/10 after watching every tarantino movie and seeing a couple interviews about his influences, i saw jean-pierre melville's name mentioned consistently, and Criterion Channel just released his entire filmography so I figured I'd give a couple of them a go. 24 hours in the life of a clown: 5/10. just a short, but pretty uninteresting. has stuck with me for some reason, though. silence of the sea: 7/10. jpm's first full-length. it's about a semi-charming nazi who visits occupied france and is an uninvited "guest" to a french family's home. sound familiar? the main dude is a clear inspiration for hanz landa of inglorious basterds. but instead of being a vicious jew killer, this guy is more interested in talking about german and french literature? anyway, the movie was pretty good
  15. he was asking about acting robert de niro = subtle joaquin phoenix = lots of dance sequences if Phillips and co. didn't want the Taxi Driver and King of Comedy comparisons, Joker literally would cease to exist
  16. It was good I suppose. some really good moments, some that felt a little over the top. it's very act-y. nothing compared to, say, Taxi Driver
  17. joker 6.5/10 how'd i manage to get my hopes up for a todd phillips movie?
  18. watched the manchester united - arsenal game hardly a classic. first 35-40 minutes was pretty bland from both sides, but thought arsenal looked a bit worse. not as bad as marcus rashford, mind you, who continues to disappoint. i thought i lack confidence! this pile of nerves turns 22 in a few weeks, almost has 200 appearances for the club, and people are still defending him like he's a teenage prodigy. at what point does manchester just move on? second half was better - thought arse was lucky to get the draw. united's defense giving up on the presumed offside was ugly, but not sure they would have stopped the goal anyway mctominay should have had the go-ahead with the header xhaka ducking out of the way for the goal was hilarious -- captain's example... pogba had two or three brilliant passes, and his shot towards the end was a close call. but this dude just isn't in it. either he needs to be more consistent or he should be shipped off to madrid or juventus, while rashford heads to coventry thought united was lucky with all their sloppy tackling, probably could have been a few more cards in there
