  1. totally sh-tted off that pumpkin beer ya dig
  2. RZ was great back in the day, he's just been on a big time mediocre streak with me, especially those animated movies. i still like Cast Away tho, haha
  3. poached from Reddit: http://www.gq.com/story/the-walk-audiences-vertigo-- people are reportedly getting physically ill and experiencing intense vertigo when watching the new Zemekis film The Walk (based on the tight rope walk between the WTC towers; also the subject of the fantastic documentary Man on Wire)
  4. new trailer "The Oscar-winning director of Birdman, Alejandro González Iñárritu, has defended his shoot for the harrowing western The Revenant against claims it descended into a “living hell”, with actors subjected to freezing temperatures and multiple crew members quitting under brutal conditions." He said he would not consider the use of CGI to save money and avoid the harsh shooting conditions. “That’s exactly what I didn’t want,” said the director. “If we ended up in greenscreen with coffee and everybody having a good time, everybody will be happy, but most likely the film would be a piece of sh-t.”
  5. lol, this is the only johhny depp movie i've wanted to see in a very, very long time - only because I'm interested in mafia stuff. I read/hear so many mixed things that my interest has been almost entirely deflated. but I'll still give it a go once it leaks
  6. 10/10????????????????????????????????????????????? omg
  7. Danzig-era Misfits is nearly unbeatable in terms of punk. but oh my god, he was a horrendous lyricist "I got something to say: I killed your baby today. And it doesn't matter much to me so long as it's dead. I got something to say: I raped your mother today. And it doesn't matter much to me so long as she spread." LOL?
  8. pretty good little clip/interview for anyone who is a fan of these two. speaking of which, Larry David has basically confirmed he is working on another season of Curb Your Enthusiasm, AND a CYE movie.
  9. finished Undermajordomo Minor by Patrick deWitt if I were to rate it, I'd give it a 7ish/10. it was a cute story, funny at times. very enjoyable and easy to read... but I just felt like it sorta just flew by, and I didn't really feel much of anything as I read it. in his other book, The Sisters Brothers, I felt a much deeper connection to the characters and thought the playing-with-genre was far more interesting than anything done in Undermajordomo Minor. I also felt like each character kind of shared the same voice and personality to some extent - the clever back-and-forth dialogue seemed more like deWitt's voice more than a character's -- again, contrast this with the Sisters brothers where the two characters seem to have very different approaches to conversation and discernible personalities edit: but then again, I do know that this story was influenced heavily by traditional fables, and I am very unfamiliar with fables - not sure how this agrees with or defies the tradition it's playing with Enjoyable, just a very light read. Would make a good movie.
  10. gattaca: 7.5/10 this was a good movie, but I'm not sure I was in the right mood for it. may very well be a fantastic one. definitely one to re-watch sometime
  11. I don't remember much about it now, but I really enjoyed that when I saw it anyway, ughhh, there's nothing to watch. anyone have any good horror/scary recs? Preferably stuff that goes beyond the usual classics but does not suck entirely.
  12. Olive Kitteridge - 10/10 decided to check out HBO's 4 part miniseries that recently cleaned up at the Emmys, and I'm glad I did. this is an absolute masterwork in terms of acting and writing - just flawless performances up and down. certainly won't be for everyone, given how it's a high drama and a pretty bleak look at growing old, marriage, death, etc. but yeah. frances mcdormand is wonderful. richard jenkins, too. and bill murray's small role was touching and hilarious.
  13. ughhhh, this song should not work. a mediocre folk singer on top of ennio morricone-lite type music, featuring a rapper 20 years after his prime. but it works gloriously.
  14. me and earl and the dying girl: 4/10 a whole bunch of references that lead nowhere and reveal nothing (did you catch that Lou Reed in-joke? did you recognize that Brian Eno song? Have you seen The 400 Blows? ok, cool.) mixed in with a paint-by-numbers story about cancer. It's sad, don't get me wrong - but considering how hard this filmmaker and writers and crew try to align the movie and its characters with outsider culture, this is about as tame and toothless as a movie can be
  15. tomorrowland: 6.5/10 - a decent message about innovation, engineering, art, imagination, etc. -- as told by mega corporations. enjoyed it a decent amount, despite the excessive length and the silly action scenes. only watched it because it's directed by Brad Bird. an odd misstep for him, but I wonder how much of that is because of editing. it feels so busy and kinda cluttered, while lasting over 2 hours.
  16. i couldn't get into peaky blinders either, which i felt sorta bummed about because i looooove organized crime stuff. i should give it another shot, i think i only saw the first two episodes as well
  17. this song is fresh, idc what anybody says
  18. was there not a horror movie/halloween movie thread on CDC before? why does the search function suck so much ass on here
  19. i saw it when it first came out (2005), and i really, really didn't like it. but came across it last night and couldnt remember a single thing either. like, nothing. i nearly turned it off about 30 minutes in because the setting is so stupid and obvious. but it gets better as it goes imo my first score was 6, but changed it to 7 as I typed the above - for some reason.
  20. broken flowers: 7/10 never been a huge jim jarmusch fan, but this was pretty good. some bits of it felt totally contrived and hit-you-over-the-head, like naming the unnecessarily nude little girl Lolita, or having the main character named Don Johnston and watching Don Juan on tv, while calling his mystery-snooping neighbour Sherlock, etc. still, i thought the movie is good when taken as a whole, and it sure has a wonderful closing scene.
  21. lol, lots of people don't like it. it's definitely "my thing" though
  22. ridiculous. this movie is pure genius, easy 10/10
  23. River, are you watching official copies, or downloaded/ripped copies?
