  1. that's actually one thing i really liked about the series. i can't think of many sequels that actually factor in the imaginary/presumed character growth/changes between movies like that, especially when you consider the depth of the emotions and "intellect" of the characters. the nuances are the same, but different. especially hawke's character. a lot of maturation between the first and second movie, i think
  2. i only have an extremely vague understanding of that nostalgia critic guy, but watching him talk about American Beauty just now was sorta embarrassing. i hate to be one of Those People, but i honestly don't even think he "gets it" and when he talks about the "recent critical backlash" of the movie, what is he even talking about? is he trying to justify his own re-evaluation? because i don't think there's been much discussion about the movie lately. and frankly, i think he totally misunderstands (or isn't familiar with) the general critical consensus of the film: it's equal parts drama AND SATIRE p.s., i love american beauty
  3. D-Money and Monty, you two are the only two people I have heard/seen say the word "the shiz" in like 10 years. I'm starting to suspect you're the same person
  4. life itself: 7/10 ebert's brand of "everyman" criticism certainly wasn't my cup of tea in life, and this movie didn't really change that, despite how it highlighted the man's importance to the movie world. not like i think his work deserves a re-evaluation now, or something the movie is sort of like a eulogy, even though he's alive throughout most of it. and i dunno if i really found his life story to be as larger-than-life as they tried to make it, and i didnt find his "everyman"-ness all that interesting, either. but the movie was really touching and sad during the parts about the battle with cancer. well made doc, quite sad at times. but nothing to write home about
  5. the hotel room sequence was just ungodly. i couldn't help but lol at how uncomfortable i felt during some of the lines do itttttttt
  6. done the trilogy before midnight: 9.5/10 perhaps the relationship movie to end all relationship movies. better acting than the previous, IMO more engaging dialogue. just a really difficult-to-watch movie that is really great all the same
  7. Mean Girls: 5/10 Some very funny moments, no doubt. But the movie is affirmation masquerading as resistance. Any movie that makes that many jokes about fat people and losers, while showing so many scenes of Lohans tits jiggling and fetishizing "teen girls" can't SERIOUSLY make up for it with 30 seconds of "we all learned out lesson in the end!"
  8. before sunrise: 8/10 before sunset: 7/10 i could get behind the youthful bickering in the first one. and i did appreciate the 'upgrade' (maturation?) in dialogue in the second one. but i admit, i did find it a little exhausting to watch adults sorta whine about their lives after a while. Delpy's character seemed especially self absorbed. but part of me also feels like it all made sense and not everyone is perfect but everyone is a little neurotic, etc. lovely scenery tho. will watch the final of the trilogy tonight
  9. I don't think van Gaal would have a problem benching a top player, especially underperforming ones like Rooney or RvP
  10. rooney was made captain too, so surely he'll be given every opportunity to have his spot. so maybe that actually leaves RvP out.
  11. What do you think this is? Rooney's best position is as centre striker, but RvP, when healthy, is arguably better. Although I think Rooney had his best seasons in that position, and he was pretty great. When Rooney plays to the left of a centre striker (like he is for England), he just is not all that effective, and playing him in the number 10 slot (playmaking/supporting/attacking midfield) is also not all that great, especially when there's Mata available, and isn't Mata supposed to be a great player for that role? isn't that what he was brought in for? The weird thing about today's dealing with Falcao is that Rooney now seems to be the odd one out, as a healthy RvP and Falcao should probably take precedence as centre striker, so Rooney will be played out of position, again, where he'll be sorta clumsy and Kesler-like with his shot attempts and lack of good passing and control regardless of what's going to happen with united's attack, i think one thing is for sure: someone is going to be either unhappy on the bench, or played out of position. and when rooney doesn't get played in his position, he starts crying--as rooney likes to do

  13. yeah he's in rome doing a charity game hahaha watching the Sky stream, saying now Welbeck is a done deal to arse. But an hour or two ago they said the deal wasn't going to happen. They keep jumping back and forth also talk about Defoe going back to England. lol, all that Toronto FC hype down the drain http://benstreams.com/stream -- sky stream
  14. piers morgan losing his mind all over twitter, yet again, over wenger's (in)action
  15. I'm not sure the defense is as dire as some suggest. Shaw - Rojo - Evans/? - Rafael, isn't a bad back 4, even though Evans has looked poor this year. with Blind playing ahead of them in a DM slot and able to play as LB, I think that's a pretty sound defensive structure. Someone posted this on RedCaf (and then again on Reddit): no RvP, but its not a bad looking team.
  16. welbeck supposedly having a medical at arsenal arse also said to have activated huntelaar's buyout clause (this may not actually be true)
  17. almost? didn't he walk away for nothing? i would have rather had that type of money spent on him instead of di maria or vidal. anyway, hope this falcao news isn't a sign that van persie's never-ending injury woes aren't more serious than expected.
  18. sorta was hoping for pogba to rejoin united, but i think he's gonna be staying with juve
  19. transfer deadline. should be some big signings and a few panic buys in the next few hours. lots of rumours about falcoa headed to england, but where? arsenal need a striker very badly, but nobody seems optimistic that they will get the high profile player they need united need loads of help did chelsea sign a new striker yet?
