  12. Too early for all the declarations. I hated the signing (more the term than the player) but five games is too small a sample. Last season at this time we had a similar record and raving that certain players were going to be amazing and others would suck based off those five games. Now there is cause for concern. If he's no fit with the Sedins, then why did we pick him up? Something to keep an eye on till Christmas break.
  13. I would hope if someone did that to one of our guys, they would get at least a game. It's illegal contact. And he's not a Young Bert. Bertuzzi was an east west player, Virt is North south. Nothing wrong with that, you need both types on your team but the comparison sucks
  14. The league always moves in cycles. And there’s not just one way to win. When I came to Pittsburgh in 2014, the trends had been flip-flopping back and forth. L.A. won with size and physicality. Chicago won with skill and discipline. (Personally, the Blackhawks are my favorite team to watch and learn from.) Then the Kings won again … size again. Then Chicago won again … skill again. Once a team wins with a certain philosophy, the rest of the league moves to either copy or counter it.

The answer isn’t to follow along with the trends. The answer is to figure out the best identity for your team.

Didn't GMMG admit to following trends? Something about moving goalposts?

Gillis built our best team ever by evaluating the talent and building a team around it that supported it. He failed when he abandoned that to try to become the bruins. Benning is doing the same.

If there was one winning formula, there would be 30 winners.  You have to build around your best players to and develop your system around the best traits of your best players.  That's the only way to win.  I like Campy Jim, but I agree with TimberWolf.

  15. So the new circle avatars make mine off center. I tried to find a new Timberwolf gif and my CDC profile was one of the google image results.

  16. Virt has not shown at any level to be a future 30 goal scorer but a 15 at worst to 23 at best seems likely and not an insult. He'll be an NHL-er and being a Torres is not an insult. Guys like that are important come playoff time. Nothing of what I am saying is "giving up on a player" but is just reacting to what we have seen and what his projections are. Hoping he'll meet his expectations is one thing but thinking he'll crush and exceed them is all together another. He'll be a Raffi (minus the stupid suspensions hopefully) and there is nothing wrong with that. Raffi was an important part of our 2011 team and if we can ever be competitive again in the far away future maybe Virt will be the same
  17. Needing time to develop does not make him Bertuzzi. The best comparison to Jake is Raffi Torres. Uses speed to augment his size and hit and pot the occasion dirty goal. Bert had a much different level of hockey IQ compared to Jake and it was evident back when Bert was Jake's age. The only two comparables is that the both were not finished developing and Bert rhymes with Virt.
  18. If you look there are small hockey players orbiting around him
  19. If it's one thing the Red Hot Chili Peppers don't do enough of is sing songs about California, Heroin or doing heroin in California

Listen to Roxy Music's tune, "Amazona". I didn't previously realize just how original(& influential) this band was.

Mid- 70's..but that would be the Chilis' sound.

  20. I predict you'll hear this cliche from management at some point: "We're trying to get him moving in straight lines"

Nagant for what it was for when it was invented was prob mind blowing for those hunters/fighters back in the day, now not so much lol. Agreed  Sks is leagues beyond it in ever way. Building a sks sabertooth as we speak >)

  23. Bo will be played like he's Manny Malhotra and it'll be up to him to shelter the second line and somehow be relied to do it with plugs like Dorsett and Etem on his line.
