BanTSN has a Virtanen stiffy that seems to be diverting so much blood from the brain that he's literally blind to all other prospects, even prospects with size. That's remarkable. The kid is 17 though, so who knows? Maybe Virtanen is the best player in the draft, just as BanTSN makes him out to be.

Why the Canucks should draft Jake Virtanen
Millerdraft replied to canucks155's topic in Canucks Talk
This is not a sound strategy. What if this were a weak draft (it is) specifically thin at the centre ice position and it's biggest depth was at wing? Are you really gonna pass on the BPA if it's a winger simply because we don't have a centre with legit #1 centre potential? You could miss out on a hell of a winger with that thinking, not to mention the trade value of BPA vs best centre available. You might even draft Rostislav Olesz instead of Blake Wheeler or Andrew Ladd with that rationale. -
Is this a joke? Have you ever seen a young Modano skate? Now, have you seen Draisaitl skate? Completely different skaters.

The more guys like Kassian the better, imo. He's big, strong, sees the ice very well offensively and is deceptive with his shoot-or-pass decisions. The only thing missing is defensive IQ, endurance conditioning and quality offensive linemates. A line of Shinkaruk-Horvat-Kassian might just have it all and then adding Ritchie onto another similar line with Cassels and Jensen might just be magic.

Ritchie is not going to become a clone of Lucic. More like a Ryane Clowe/Rick Nash hybrid. Not as fast as Nash, not as slow as Clowe but he ought to be good for 20-25g 30-35a 100PIM seasons once he hits his prime.

As a Canucks' fan, please explain exactly how this scenario would be funny at ALL? That sounds like a f**king coma inducing nightmare. No true Canuck fan would find that the least bit humourous... Then trade Kesler to Anaheim for the 10th overall, a prospect/roster prospect and their 2015 1st. Shouldn't we be trying to tank for McDavid anyway? Adding Kesler to a division foe just further helps in achieving that goal: more losses. I'm lovin' those moves. I found myself "plus"ing almost every single one of your posts in this thread. One of the only posters in this thread who's saliva for one player isn't blinding their vision for the others. As for myself, I just want at least one of these guys: Dal Colle, Draisaitl, Ritchie, Virtanen or Perlini. I do, however, believe we should be drafting every single player that resembles Jamie Benn, Alex Chaisson, Corey Perry, Ryan Getzlaf, Joe Thornton, Patrick Marleau, Anze Kopitar, Jeff Carter, Milan Lucic, Jarome Iginla, David Backes, Ryan Johansen, Max Pacioretty, Jakub Voracek, Wayne Simmonds, Scott Hartnell, Rick Nash, Gabriel Landeskog, Mikko Koivu, Charlie Coyle etc, until we actually get a couple of those guys that pan out at this level and go from there. This franchise needs some big players that can provide primary scoring and also stand up to playoff wear and tear. It looks like we may have something in Kassian, which is a good start. Now let's add to it.

This. It's the same regurgitated argument.

His exact words were, "we'll probably have the opportunity to take a forward, which I think is a good fit for us... You know, there are some real big, powerful forwards that are available..." Does that describe Kapanen to you?
-
As he probably will.

Is this a joke? Ritchie, a guy that's 6'3" 230lbs, hits everything in sight and likes dropping the gloves is going to cower away from a guy like Green while on the same token a smaller, pure skill guy like Kapanen or Ehlers isn't gonna have a problem taking that same punishment?! That's some ass backwards thinking!

He had his hands intertwined on the stretcher so at least he's able to move all his fingers which is a good sign.

Saw playboi's post in the Bo Horvat thread and came across this highlight package. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k0mwtvXpSdE

Personally, I enjoyed the 45 degree tilt forward that he somehow managed to maintain without falling. -

Why does this seem like a big middle finger to all fans of Canadian teams winning a Cup? I know it's Tortorella and all, but man. Up next, Carolina celebrating their win over Edmonton when a different Canadian team that loses in game #7 of the Finals comes to the PNC arena in Raleigh, NC? -
It would've been 7 but Arnott was injured for 1/3 of the season. Arnott was averaging 13:04 of even strength (to Madden's 11:39). Anyways, the argument is over. Madden was a 3rd line defensive specialist that year and won the Selke because of it. Let's get back to Bo Horvat talk and everyone just slam a green beer already!
-
Madden was 7th amongst forwards (on his team) in even strength minutes in 2000-2001: link and 1st amongst forwards (on his team) in shorthanded minutes in the same year: link. That means he was a 3rd liner at even strength and their go-to-guy on the PK, aka a defensive specialist.

This thread needs more in the OP. -
Yeah, but the thing is, your comparison is off. The guy on that list that was most like Kesler is not Madden, it's Holik and when we were Cup contenders in 2011 the guy most like John Madden on our roster was Manny Malhotra. Holik never had a 30g season (his career high was 29). Holik never hit 70pts either (career high 65). However, he was a two-way force which is not dissimilar to what Kesler is.

[Trade] Canucks Trade Luongo to the Panthers

Laugh if you must but what Bettman wants, Bettman usually gets. -
[Report] Kesler is still a Canuck
Millerdraft replied to Derp...'s topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
Umm, I don't think there's any doubt that Kesler is a total prick but who really cares as long as he's a beast on the ice? -

Hope he wins a Cup down there. -

The good news is that even if we don't get a good enough deal to trade Kesler at the draft we'll still be in a much better position to fail again next year and land the #1 overall in 2015. Keeping the dressing as sour as possible will ensure another bottom 5 finish. Trade Kesler at the 2015 deadline for picks and prospects. -
Come on Aquillini, tell Gillis to lose honour for Connor.
