  1. 'Could be the tequilla talking but this team's window has slammed tighter than a: <__insert_pun_here__>!
  2. Edler for O'Reilly Kesler & Tanev for Weber ?
  3. My mistake then, I must have completely misunderstood this comment:
  4. You were comparing player values, were you not? Was I mistaken?
  5. Daigle was voted one of the league's top-three defensive forwards in the league three years in a row? I've never even seen Alexander Daigle on the Selke ballot, let alone engraved on the trophy itself...

  7. Man, if there was ever a good time to contemplate tanking this might just that time.
  8. I like Hansen for the same reason but there's no denying that he's dropping down the depth chart under Torts. He was on the top PK tandem with Malhotra when AV was here and was almost never seen on the 4th line. Under Torts he's been dropped to 8th, 8th, in SH TOI/game for forwards on this team and he's taking semi-regular shifts on the 4th line as of late. http://www.nhl.com/ice/playerstats.htm?fetchKey=20142VANFAFALL&sort=avgShortHandedTOIPerGame&viewName=timeOnIce Torts isn't using him commensurately to his $2.5m cap hit (as of next year) and his value will plummet because of that if something isn't changed soon.
  9. O'Reilly would be an excellent on-ice model for Horvat to emulate and you need these types to groom the young guys once they're ready for the NHL. A 25-year old O'Reilly mentoring a 20-year old Horvat would be ideal. Even a 24-year old ROR and a 19-year old Horvat would be good as ROR knows all about how to have personal success in the NHL at a young age.
  10. I think Gillis would need to add a better player than Weise on top of Edler to get O'Reilly & McGinn and I doubt they have interest in the pending UFA Santorelli. The two players on the Canucks that are adapting to Torts' system the worst are Edler & Hansen and I can see them both being dealt at some point in 2014...
  11. Maybe Gillis is really after McGinn (who's name has been in the rumour mill all year). He's certainly a better 3rd line fit than Booth is at this point.
  12. To Colorado: Edler To Winnipeg: O'Reilly To Vancouver: Kane
  13. OMG Can you imagine CDC if we were paying someone $4m on a multi-year deal for those numbers. Oh wait, nevermind.
  14. People that think he has no vision or playmaking skill are blind: see the Tanev goal tonight (more accurately the 15 seconds before Tanev eventually scored). He had a very similar assist on an Edler goal vs Chicago last year. People that think he has no hands should take a look at the dangles we've seen from him the last two games and the goal that he scored tonight.
  15. I wonder how many of you naysayers would be riding his jock if three of his shots that hit iron went in instead of staying out.
  16. I think Horvat did fine, not great, just fine. The bigger question is where has Scott Laughton been hiding? Wasn't he given the "C"?!
  17. He's ineligible for the minors next year. It''s NHL or juniors.
  18. Yeah, Babcock also called Malhotra a real heavy player back in the 2010-2011 season and praises both Zetterberg and Datsyuk in this aspect.
  19. The term "heavy player" is used to describe someone who is hard on the puck, hard with the puck and physical. Mike Babcock uses the term often to describe players that make you work hard for every inch of ice out there when they're on the D side of the puck and shield the puck on O. Toews and Kesler have epic battles in this regard. I love the fact that Sutter went out of his way to praise this aspect about Horvat.
  20. Fair enough especially since Grabner would've been lost on waivers anyway (given his previous training camp/preseason no-shows) had Gillis not traded him that summer. I actually like most of Gillis' moves but I think Hodgson was moved before his value was at its highest, which would've been at the 2013 entry draft, and yet still before the inevitable offersheet that would've been pursued by Winters had Cody not been moved by that point.
  21. Small sample size though. It's likely he could've gotten more for him with two years of inflated stats. I like Kassian a lot but he could've gotten an additional pick at least. Hodgson's value today is higher than it was then...
