I've been a Canucks fan for a very long time. I live in NY (state, not city) & became a Canucks fan in the early 90's when Bure started playing in VAN. He was such an amazing talent & great fun to watch. Naturally, I became a fan of the team & have been since. I watched the '94 finals surrounded by friends/family that were Rangers fans. In 2011, I relived that excitement of my team getting to game 7 of the SCF & I watched them get shut out on home ice.
Between 1990 & 2011, a span of 21 years, the Canucks did not make the playoffs 6 times. Since 2011, a span of 10 years, they've not made the playoffs 6 times as well... all 6 of those DNQ's have been in the past 8 seasons. In the bubble playoffs 2 years ago, we saw a team that got us excited about the future when they made it to game 7 of 2nd round. Then last year happened & the disappointment of a lackluster team for 8 years wore us down.
The moves made during the offseason are a result of a team trying to rebuild. Mistakes have been made in those moves, but, IMO, some really good ones have been made as well. Then, BB was out a few games, Hamonic has been a mystery, Motte on IR, Sutter on LTIR, EP40 has had a slow start, defense has been sloppy.... the list goes on & on.
There is a crap ton of expectation of this very young team because it has a crap ton of talent. Thus, every L or OT is a disappointment and open for critique.
It's very early in the season. There's plenty of time to improve, but this is a team that is rebuilding. In a couple of years, we could be contenders.
