NHL, ESPN reach seven-year U.S. broadcast deal
grandmaster replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in General Hockey Discussion
Still no info on how much this deal is. I believe NBC was paying 200M per year before this new contract. -
Jim Benning's mid-season press conference
grandmaster replied to -Vintage Canuck-'s topic in Canucks Talk
I think my dislike of JB has just increased. How can he sit and spew this garbage? Be a man and admit your mistakes and failures. 1) Demko was not quite ready to be number one and Holtby came as advertised (passed his prime). Priority should have been signing Marky 2) Jake ought to have been traded and TT ought to have been signed 3) Green has not done a good job. The team looked lost and had no compete or strategy in their play 4) Bo is having a good season. Let’s not over blow this 5) All his bad contracts have finally caught up to him and he is says every team has one bad contract? Really Jim? We only have one bad one? -

Nice to see some positives in an otherwise very negative season. -
Former Canucks star Todd Bertuzzi arrested for DUI
grandmaster replied to cuporbust's topic in Canucks Talk
Bruce Springsteen was found to have a quarter of the legal limit. A quarter! That’s like one or two drinks. There is no optics here other than the police making a mistake. There was no criminal, moral or contractual law that was breached here. It’s just another case of folks jumping the gun before getting all the facts. That sponsor, regardless of how important it was to Mr Springsteen, was wrong to do that and should be sued. That sponsor shouldn’t be allowed to get away with that. Again, I bring this example as something that could be in play with Bert. Let’s all hold off on making judgements until we get more facts on this case. -

Hopefully he will tell us how it didn’t go to charges because he wasn’t drunk and how the blood test exonerated him like it did for Bruce Springsteen -
Former Canucks star Todd Bertuzzi arrested for DUI
grandmaster replied to cuporbust's topic in Canucks Talk
The point was a sponsor dropped Bruce Springsteen based on an arrest that was later found to be no where near a standard for charges. It’s folks like you that make assumptions before all the facts are presented. This has nothing to do with what people can afford. Meanwhile keep up the ignorance and vilifying folks before all the information is presented, stands to your character. -

That’s not the point. -

How about we just wait on more info? Bruce Springsteen’s case was dropped after they realized his blood alcohol level was way too low. Poor guy was demonized and a sponsor even dropped him before this was finally realized. -
I agree we should not trade Hughes. He is a generational type defenceman and all signs show him being elite for at least a decade. Him and Petey should be untouchables. If a team so desires to bankrupt themselves for either of these two, I would demand the following; 3 first rounders, a good NHL top 6 forward or top 4 defenceman and a top prospect in that same category.

(Rumour) Virtanen on the trade block
grandmaster replied to Wayne Glensky's topic in Trades, Rumours, Signings
More I think about it the less likely this trade for Heinen happens. The Canucks are not making the playoffs this year and they have about 5M to pay out next year in Entry Level Contract bonuses. We are already right on the cap and need to re-up Hughes and Pettersson next year as well. I think Virtanen will be dumped for a pick. Who knows what Heinen will be awarded in his next contract as well (like you know he will be RFA). Shame because I have more faith in Heinen’s potential than Virtanen’s potential. -
JV for Heinen would be a good trade. The salary is virtually the same. Both are still young. Heinen is a local kid as well.

You keep acting like the team is going to make the playoffs and that Travis still has the room. You’re still butt hurt about that awful thread re extending Green. You seem to continue to send sad faces to posts that don’t fit your misguided narrative.

It’s pretty much a guarantee we will get a top 10, if not a top 5 pick. Hopefully whoever we get will be long the lines of the last 3 first rounders; Petey, Hughes and Brock....

[Proposal] JB will circle back to OEL
grandmaster replied to The King's topic in Proposals and Armchair GM'ing
Many sites rate OEL’s contract as a top 10 worst. I wanted him before but no longer -
There is a window of opportunity now for the Canucks to land the newly available Claude Julien. A coach who has a much more impressive resume and former Stanley Cup champion winning coach. The Habs made a mistake here and I believe Jim Benning needs to move quick on this or he will be scooped up by another team. Thank you Travis for all your efforts but this team can no longer function under your command. It’s time for a change.
-
That’s the coach’s job re accountability. In my opinion, Green looks like he has lost the room. The team is not playing well together and I don’t know if it is a lack of coaching intelligence or ability to motivate these players. If your system is not working, you need to improvise, adapt and overcome. You can’t fire 10 players but you sure can replace a coach

Both you guys should square this away and go with Oldnews’ second proposal. Let’s move on guys. There is a lot of hate bs and wasted effort here. Keep things as positive and constructive when in disagreement.

Would it be fair to assume we could get a 2nd for Pearson and same for Sutter? Pearson is a typical 20 goal scorer Sutter is a decent shut down Centre
