  1. Agreed. Our defence needs a solid upgrade if we are to compete for a Cup and with Edler gone after this upcoming season, there is going to be far too many holes in the back end. Some of these negative fans just don’t get it. Not every Swede is a Louie freaking Eriksson! I’m sure OEL will be a fantastic acquisition for years to come, like all the other great Swedes this town has enjoyed over the years. On a side note, I would prefer Alex Pietralengelo but a bidding war for free agents always end up being too costly and we need to dump salary via a trade.
  2. So I checked this guy’s stats and in 10 games for the Caps, he had 0 goals and 0 assists. He has 1 goal and 13 assists for the Sharks in the same season. He is obviously not a point producer. Don’t know much about him. Is he a good defensive defenceman? He good physically? Can he fight well?
  3. Just heard on 650 that there are many GMs forecasting the following years cap as they believe this upcoming season is likely to be cancelled. Not sure if we ought to take on big ticket contracts from older players. That’s one year we lose on their “prime” years. Definitely a concern....
  4. It’s not bad if they take LE and we don’t give up too much. It would definitely improve our defence for many years.
  5. Louie Eriksson needs to be part of this deal for it to work.
  6. 1) If anyone is being naive, it would be you to think that merchandising, tv disbursements or these other “offshoots” will cover the operating costs of running a NHL team, especially with a full salary cap (let’s not even mention all the other staffing and financial burdens). This is not the NFL, the NHL needs fans in arenas to be profitable. 2) Your comment that this is a Canadian market and expectations are surprisingly not that of wanting more from owners is a sentiment of true utter ignorance. Owners of Canadian clubs have been handicapped for decades with a whopping 20-30 percent difference in US dollar values for player salaries. Canadians are well aware of this. 3) What could possibly make you think that “culture” is an issue? Last I checked NHL teams are not government entity or Crown corporations. They don’t get handouts. There are no cultural grants or tax breaks. Be more appreciative we are not like Ottawa. FA has every right to say no I’m not going to go to the full cap for next season. The losses that they will be enduring next year are going to be insurmountable.
  7. Lundqvist was also on a very bad team these last few years. It’s a low risk if we were to sign him for cheap as a back up. I think he would be much better with us.
  8. If we were to roll with Demko as our number one, Lundqvist would be a good veteran back up and should come very cheap. I was thinking about Jimmy Howard before but this is a much better option. *only if we are unable to at keep Markstrom
  9. If we were going to spend that kind of money it be best to try for AP. They are also roughly the same age.
  10. Too much cap hit for a guy who isn’t a top 10 NHL defenceman.
  11. Rousell is a French speaking third liner that can add some toughness and edge to their team. He would be a key piece for their “win now” philosophy. Maybe we can get a second round pick?
  12. Ya I got a bit carried away there. I just feel strongly about it. You’re right I don’t know his financial situation but folks that are rich don’t get rich by just throwing money into a guaranteed loss. That is exactly you are expecting him and some other owners to do. I already made a statement on how lucky we were to have an owner to make us a cap team but things will be very bad next year. 81.5 million full team salary 1 million Travis Green ??? JB’s salary ??? building maintenance ??? building property taxes ??? other staffing costs (that are not players) God know what else.... Arena income $0.00
  13. You really don’t get it. Financial issues are not a joke. Owners are going to feel the pinch way more next year. A full season of no fans will mean more full salary and little to no income, resulting in even further loses. You need to take a course in logic. We are not gonna see anymore 10 million dollar salaries in the next couple years.
  14. Did you just arrive from another planet? Do you think owners will dish out money like that when there is little to no income for the next year?
  15. Ok so 10 million per year till 2026.....this doesn’t concern anyone? Given times of flat cap, poor economy and Covid, I hardly think many teams would want that. I can’t imagine how things are gonna get worse after this new season plays out. Hard no if I was an owner....
  16. I wouldn’t be surprised if guys like QH and EP end up taking substantially less than what people are saying they will make. By next year, salaries will definitely crash given the state of what’s going on. Three year bridge contracts 3-5M I’m guessing...
  17. It will be interesting what Barrie will get. He didn’t have a great year in Toronto and now there is this flat cap/owners getting tight on cash. Logic would state that he will get a way lower contract than expected about a year ago. But then again, there are plenty of those idiot GMs out there....
  18. Let’s be honest with ourselves here. I like CT as much as many here but this season was an anomaly. Hardly injured and was mainly productive based on QH. Hell even Jordie Benn would have a good season if he played with Quinn! Given his age and what I just mentioned, this guy ought to be limited to 3 years and no more than 4.5 per.
  19. Back on topic, I have a feeling some idiot GM is going to overpay this guy. Let’s see here....flat cap for 3 years, very low income as a result of no fans in stadiums, high costs in salaries and mounting debt. Yet some moron GM will end up paying this guy like 9M a season on a term contract
  20. I totally agree. Dumba is not what we are looking for. This guy is a mid level defenceman at best. We have enough of those.
  21. I agree but I also have the opinion that Myers, our Willie Mitchell 2.0, will be even better at this next season. I see his play improving each game since he arrived:
