Man this is depressing now that I think about it. Had high hopes for half of those players lol

So if Pettersson can keep scoring at his regular pace for month of January he should be a near lock for rookie of month even after missing 5 games. Only other competition right now is Dahlin who has 6 pts 1 g 5 a through 8 games played.

I like Rathbone but I'd probably still put Woo ahead of him at this point in time.

Is it Un-Canadian of me to say that I chuckled when I saw that Utunen had scored? Him of all people...

It is one of the reasons I'm usually fairly hesitant in taking a defender from the OHL. Unless they are able to make the next step to the NHL within their D+1 I find the development path to be not as good as that of the NCAA. Granted if you believe in a player enough at your draft spot you can argue for making the case for an OHL D-man. All things being equal I would take the defender from NCAA/Europe over OHL. In the case of Woo, I believe in Benning/Brackett's scouting enough that if they felt he was the best player available I am all for it. It seems as though his development is tracking to that of a late 1st rounder at this point so it seems like good value for where we picked.

It's still early but yes I can definitely see that. Woo had a pretty slow start too but hopefully he can continue building on his season. It'll be interesting to see who the better player will end up being.

I had expectations for him to be close to ppg but wasn't confident he would achieve them. I'm hoping he can keep this up. Maybe Tim Hunter left him off the team on purpose to light a fire under Woo.

So your projecting him to go 6th or 7th round? While I agree he may not be 2nd round as even Jonah Gadjovoch went mid second round and he was only D+1, I'm not sure he drops to 6th or 7th. That's the tricky part about drafting D+2, their offensive upside is severely limited. I would think someone takes a flyer at him in the mid rounds but realistically it all depends on his skating. If he can't skate he will be later round pick for sure.
-
To be honest I think that teams are shying away from D+1 and D+2 individuals. I believe it is a trend in the new NHL. There are some teams though that will take it with a grain of salt. Pittsburgh and Vancouver being two teams that have not shied away from D+ individuals. There was an article not too long ago that talked about this and the projected expectation of where they might get drafted. There is no question he will get drafted. If he continues this pace my guess is that he will be mid second round?

Not to mention goal of the year honours

Who is everyone liking in the 10-20 range? Someone mentioned him before but I like Kaedan Korczak around there. I am a little surprised he wasn't listed in the top 30 consolidated but I'm positive he will be there by the end of the year. R shot D man that is putting up points with Kelowna.

Yup I know that Hockey East in general is a pretty good league but wanted to point that out that Makar has feasted on the weaker opponents so far. Nonetheless he will be a really good player.
-
I noticed I didn't recognize most of the teams that Umass Amherst has played so far. Ohio east being the only one that I recognize. So far they've played Royal Canadian Military college of Canada (lol), Renssalaur x2 (who?), ohio state x 2, and merrimack. None of these I would consider to be quality opponents. The only ones that I truly recognize from Hockey east are Boston College, Boston University and Northeastern. Mind you I don't follow NCAA hockey so I may be out to lunch.
-
He's progressing at about the rate I expected from him, which was a ppg. I'm still hoping he has more to give and can go at a higher pace that he currently does. I know Cale Makar is a a year older but he is just lighting the NCAA on fire. Is the division Makar plays in relatively weak compared to Big 10?

I can't comment on his defence but based on his offensive production and size I would say anywhere between 10-16 as of today. Can anyone comment on his skating? That is usually the limiting factor for a guy of his size.
-
Definitely impressed with what Bowen Byram is doing. At this rate he should go anywhere between 3-7. I would definitely want the canucks to draft him if possible
-
Definitely one of the most intriguing sleeper picks. Hoping for an Adam Gaudette type season from him.
-
Great to hear. I think he is definitely a sleeper pick that will surprise. I had never heard of the league he played in previously but he still had impressive numbers against men regardless of the quality. The fact that he can go in with low expectations and being such a late birthday means he will have plenty of time to develop.

Pettersson apparently said he was 225 when asked. ....and yes I know he was trying to troll us.
-
To be honest I have little hope of him coming here but it's definitely worth a gamble. He seems to be doing very well so far in preseason and his first couple games. If he can truly light up the KHL he may be tempted to give it a shot here. If he's a middling KHL forward I'm not sure he will ever get the opportunity here.

Pretty funny translation from the quoted article above: After a slight introduction to the tournament, he made his best match to Switzerland in the group game so far. But in the context of a free-kick, where Pettersson was just putting the puck in, he fell badly into the goalkeeper. "I agree with you that I was on time then. The tournament started a bit slowly, then it went better and better for each match and against Switzerland I felt very spicy. Created the scenes and of course ..., then that damage came where I broke my thumb.

That's a good point. However I still think he has a lot of potential and he had a great season in Liiga by almost any measure. Only 20 years old and most good D men don't make it till they are 20-21. The trend with Werenski, Hanifin, McAvoy, Sergachev playing early is fairly recent and I don't think it has really limited Juolevis potential too much.

He has dsylexia. It's well known and he's spoken of it prior to the draft
