  1. I am really excited about this pick. I don't know much about the MJHL but they are a league with 20 and 21 year olds so he's already been playing against older players and had a massive season for that league. I think worst case scenario is you have a solid AHL goalie for your farm. I love the NCAA development route for goalies so I am really excited to see what he can do there.

I took a random sampling of several of his KHL game logs and it looks like the games he actually dressed for he played between zero and eight minutes. Even the game he scored his goal in, he only saw seven minutes and change of icetime.

Apparently, he’s expected to see his role increase next season.

As for the MHL, he set that league’s season scoring record in 2016-17.

Agreed he’s an extreme longshot. As for how long term, it remains to be seen. Hopefully in a year or two, we’ll have an idea of what he can do with decent KHL icetime and how well his junior production actually translates to that league.

One thing I like is that we should hold his rights until he’s 27, so until 2025. If he becomes any kind of player, we own him (as far as the NHL). If he does succeed in the KHL next season (or over the following years), NHL teams would have come sniffing around. Instead, we basically hold a lottery ticket for the next seven years. Really long odds it’ll actually pay off. But if it hits, we cash in.

    Should be fun to watch.

Exactly. I don't mind this pick. A 6th round was a long shot regardless but if we hit we will hit big...

  3. If his dad was 190 at 5'11 there's a good chance Tyler will be at least 180-185 which is good playing weight with a guy of his speed and talent. If he has anywhere near the defensive talent of his dad combined with his 'better' offensive skills then we will have hit a homerun.

Just having a bit of fun :) To be fair, this all stemmed from a couple of us saying that we're very interested to see him perform at the prospects game in a couple weeks, since he's one of those guys that doesn't have a lot of video out there. Should be exciting to see how his skating compares to some of our better prospects, particularly if we take a D at 7th overall.

Don't worry I was having a bit of fun in there as well...

All this means is he is heavier than 168 lbs but lighter than 192lbs. Lol

I am not worried about his weight anyway.

Wasn't there a recent source where someone confirmed after speaking with Pettersson that he was indeed 178 lbs?

I have come to rely on CDC for much of my hockey news and @-Vintage Canuck- has done a very good job making sure to keep this site updated with information. I honestly can't remember a single instance where he didn't cite a source or posted misleading on incorrect info, and he does it all with robot-like efficiency. It takes dedication and commitment to keep this up over years.

If you have the balls to call out one of the most respected posters on this website then you damn well make sure that you have impeccable credibility.

Pretty sure he's not calling out Vintage....<_<

  7. Does anything think there is a positive to any of this? Even though it's not Olli Juolevi, by having his name called out he might take his off-ice training a little more seriously and possibly play less video games. It's definitely not ideal to have your name dragged through the mud but it has already happened so I hope he is able to utilize this to light a fire under him.

    Oh ffs....

Take it back to Tim Hortons and keep flinging your poop there for the love of Howe.

If you have an issue with a report said person quoted deal with that somewhere else.  you've literally been going back and forth on this since December.

Just think about how awfully terribly and completely sad that is that you would waste your lives spending 5 full months or so complaining about this.

Timonen was a very underrated dman. He did it all. Mixed in a couple 50 point seasons in his career. If Juolevi logs 23+ hard minutes a night and puts up around 40 points in his prime that pick is a win. People need to calm down about the Sergachev is already in the NHL. The guy was a man when he was drafted. Serg was always NHL ready where Juolevi was a couple years away. It’s not a race.

That's where you are wrong. It is a race, and Juolevi is the turtle...he will win in the long run ::D

Curious was iit the fact he had the most impressive season in one of the toughest leagues as a 19-year old that dow\wngrades him? was it the 7 goals in 10 playoff games? was it he 26 minutes he lagged in the playoffs yet his plus-minus was great?

He is a  future top 2 wait and see, as for not making the worlds. he played longer and more minutes then all the rest of there defence. He was also a little hurt and the club felt it was best for him to get ready for Vancouver next year.

can I give you some friendly advice? Research is a wonderful way to not look like you don't have a clue what your talking about.,

While I support all your points I have to make a correction. He had 7 points 2 goals 5 assists not 7 goals as you've been leading on.

Another bit on EP from a non-Canuck perspective.   Was talking with an Oiler's associated scout who has been following decent development of their 2016 pick defensemen Filip Berglund of Skellefteå.   We chatted about Berglund (who he sees as a slightly more talented Holm in terms of SEL recents and who potentially projects to NHL in two more years) and, again for what it is worth, he figures EP is a lock for NHL next year, figures he could be in conversation for first overall if in the draft this year (if he was born just weeks earlier) and found it quite odd people think SEL is "soft" and that EP would find NA game tough.   He is the one who offered me up the Patrick Kane comparison last fall.   He also, for what it is worth, think people need to temper expectation on Dahlin as he figures he is great but not quite as good as Hedman was at same age in some key areas (that are key for NHL success) and it took better part of four or five seasons to become really dominant with Tampa.

Some other thoughts from him, this time a bit mixed.  On the good, he thinks Dahlen is severely underrated and will surprise people in North America ("he is more like his Dad than many will understand - not big but what a pain in the assets to play against")  on the not so good, he is far from keen on Lind.   He spent two months in North America this past year and gave me a list of reasons like Lind will not make the NHL.   I don't fully agree at all but he points to Shinkaruk as a comparable type player.   Again, just his opinions and they are like, "assets".

Thanks for the update Rob. However I wouldn't put too much emphasis on what an oilers scout says since they haven't exactly been the model of drafting success the last ten years lol jk.

Would anyone be surprised if he got 60 points next year?.

I would not be at all. Based on his NHL projections I actually expect him to have 65 points MINIMUM. I know this is having totally unrealistic expectations but if the stats are correct that is what I am hoping for.
