  1. If Rathbone ever gets to his 3rd-4th year of NCAA status and will be an NHL player I can't see him shunning the Canucks. He has the qualities that suggest he is loyal to his family and team. Plus the Canucks will make sure him and his family feel right at home.
  2. What do you think are realistic expectations for Gaudette next year? I know it's high expectations but I want him to be able to hit 35 points next year. I see 20 goals 15 assists to be achievable for him. I am putting these expectations on him because he has that motor that the coach will love and will be willing to put him in positions to succeed. In his prime I see him as a consistent 45-55 point guy.
  3. No I never said that. What I am saying though is that there is both a higher percentage of players (D-men in this case) who go on to have successful careers. Basically if you took 100 players born Sept 15th-February and 100 players born March - Sept 15th, there will be a statistically significant difference in both numbers of players who play in the NHL AND players who would be deemed 1st line pairings. Of course this acts in reverse, D-men who are drafted with early birthdays have a worse chance of playing in the NHL AND have a worse chance of being good players. In fact most of the successful D-men with early birthdays have a January-February birthday....so once again even that four months of development seem to have an effect. Of course there are exceptions, especially when you are really talented but the numbers do not lie. That is also why I am completely against drafting Bouchard and Hughes (early birthdate). I think Bouchard will be a serviceable D-man but I just don't think he will be a #1 D-man.
  4. It's always nice to hear of his progress considering the whole US highschool league to be kind of a vacuum of information. If he has 18 points in 10 games that seems pretty impressive and it'll be interesting to see how this all translates to NCAA next year. Keeping my fingers crossed that he will be one of those surprise players where you suddenly take notice.
  5. Rob, read my thread "Statistical analysis on drafting D men" ..there is definitely something there that shows that late birthdays, at least for D men are way more successful in the NHL. If you don't care for the statistics, there is other information that I didn't post but if you have the time google search the article about top 50 nhl d-men. Then look at each individual's birthdate. There is a huge correlation to Dmen born between March and September 15th (cutoff date). It is staggering. So yes there is definitely something there..even for several months difference in age.
  6. To be fair Tkachuk started his draft season in NCAA while Boeser and Gaudette started in their draft+1 year. However you'd have to see Tkachuk jump from his current .77 ppg to around 1.2-1.5 next year to be considered elite.
  7. Don't know if you guys notice but on the second goal he is right on the goal line and has no angle so instead of trying to throw it at the net it actually looks like he deliberately shoots it at the goalies skate to get the redirect. Also on the 3rd goal, nice hustle... This guy will likely be our playoff MVP in the future...
  8. I'm actually of the belief that bitcoin will drop to around the $2000 (maybe slightly below) and level off. While I won't put money into it until I see a bottom form, I think the whole cryptocurrency still has another run to go before it ends. I am solely basing this on the market cap, which at it's peak hit something like 700billion which is actually quite small compared to previous bubbles. I believe the dot.com bubble hit a market cap of around 6-8 trillion after inflation so theoretically there's still a lot of stupid money that can invest in this.
  9. Not to mention he'll likely beat the record in less games played, in a lower scoring era.
  10. I'll admit I was drawn into that fiasco and secretly wished for him to fail in Buffalo. However after reading something like that it's a shame that he had to retire too early.
  11. Holy crap, did I just see that correctly? Save of the year right there.
  12. Exactly. We need someone who can teach Juolevi how to make those decisions in his own end and there is no one better than Tanev to do that.
  13. I personally think you guys underrate what Tanev would fetch on trade market. He is worth at least a mid round first and a grade B prospect (a prospect that is trending upwards and not someone who was drafted high but has lost favor with their organization). I'm thinking a trade in the lines of Cal Foote plus Tampas 1st or maybe a trade with Colorado for Connor Timmins and their 1st.
  14. Its great that we can get unbiased information from you. Definitely one of the main reasons I keep coming back to this thread. Too much biased information these days and can never be sure who to trust. Any update as to how the new rules and rate hike have affected January numbers?
  15. I'm not too familiar with the two but I like WEF.to Western Forest Products. Has a good dividend and cheaper valuation.
  16. I love how the last few games, his S% has crept up from .925 to .929. If he maintains this level he will be exactly on par with Cory Schneider.
  17. Gotta respect his loyalty to the team. I hope his team is able to rally around this and get themselves promoted to the SHL
  18. I really think we should skip on Merkely if we ever acquire a later 1st round pick. He has tantalizing offensive upside but I'm just not sure his defensive play will ever improve
  19. Fact is unless the digital currency can be backed by something tangible and is not subject to the wild swings in value, it won't have much value as a currency. I'm not saying the technology is useless as I'm sure there are plenty of excellent applications for it but not the way it currently stands. Also from what I here Bitcoin is super slow to process transactions and that already means it is absolutely useless for real world practical applications.
  20. Yes bitcoin crashed from $1000 to just under $300 and stayed that way for over a year. I remember watching it at the time thinking it was going to zero. Obviously I was wrong but I still don't see the value in it as a currency. I think the suggestion that you only put in what you can afford to lose is sound but don't leverage yourself like I hear some people are doing.
  21. I don't want to get into a huge argument about the value of bitcoin as it stands as an asset class. My long term view is that bitcoin and majority of the coins are worthless. Having said that, it wouldn't stop me from investing (or should I say speculate) on it if I felt there was a quick buck to be made. I definitely wouldn't hold long-term though. If I were to purchase I'd wait to see the long-term trend pick back up as that would be the perfect time to buy. I think anyone buying here could be in for a shock as I can see bitcoin go down to $1000-2000 over the course of the year. I would say wait till the dust settles a bit, let the downtrend stabilize and wait for a month or two for an uptrend to pick back up. By that time, FOMO will have ended and you could potentially see another large-scale uptrend. If it does not stabilize, don't buy as it could go down a lot further. If you look at the 2014-2015 crash it took almost 2 years for the price to stabilize. I'm not saying it'll take this long but in my mind, a technical support has been breached right now and could see a long ride down.
  22. With the time difference and the fact that I've cut my cable I couldn't be bothered to watch these other sports. In the end I'll probably just be medal counting rather than actually watching (replays or not). However to be completely honest I doubt I'd make the time to watch hockey either based on the forementioned reasons...but at least I'd watch the replays and highlights
  23. Hopefully this lights a fire underneath him to prove the Olympic brass they chose wrong. On another note now there's absolutely no reason for me to watch the Olympics anymore.
  24. He forgot Dahlen leading Allvenskan in ppg and 4th in scoring.
