  1. I agree. Continue to work on his skating as his technique needs improvement from what I hear. Hopefully he comes back a much better skater.
  2. If Podkolzin can finish off with a strong second half and retain minimum of 10 minutes a night I don't think we can say that it was bad for his development to play in the KHL. I think 10 minutes a night in the KHL is probably better than 15-18 minutes a night in the VHL.
  3. I can't argue which league is better but based on NHL point projections I think KHL has a lead over the AHL? Also is it true that KHL standards for awarding assists are much more strict than NHL? I recall people saying that Podkolzin should probably have had one or two assists as well if awarded the same as the NHL.
  4. Considering that we will most likely be losing our 1st round pick this year, I too agree that using a 2nd to draft a defenseman would 'probably' be the right choice. I've always maintained that you get better value out of drafting defenseman out of the 2nd round (I am of the belief that you are more likely to get a 2nd - pairing + defender than a 1st line forward. The reason I do not include 2nd line forward into this equation is that a 2nd pair defenseman has way more value than a 2nd line forward). With the way the Canucks are set up we are set for our top 2 lines for the next 4-5 years. We still have Podkolzin, Lind, Hoglander in the system to fill in the gaps and our defensemen pipeline will be severely diminished once Juolevi, Rafferty and Woo potentially make the jump once Edler, Tanev go. Start the grooming process and draft a defenseman for 5 years down the road.
  5. I came on here to talk about Michael Benning as I think he would be an excellent 3rd round pick (not even considering his blood relation to Jim Benning). Like you said, very similar stats and age - adjusted scoring compared to Cale Makar.
  6. Personally I'm just really impressed with his playmaking this year. He's showing hands that he never used to have and able to make those difficult passes like the one we saw tonight.
  7. Only noticed this after you mentioned it. It was pretty damn funny!
  8. At this stage of the game, I don't really expect him to be anymore than 3rd D-pair material but if he can step into the occasional 2nd D-pair role I'd be pretty happy.
  9. Jack Rathbone had 1 primary assist last night in a 4-2 loss to Boston College
  10. Nope I don't follow any of Toronto's articles. This is based on my own research. I really liked him before the draft and was hoping Canucks would draft him.
  11. The early returns were really promising but he's seemed to have cooled down quite a bit. I'm really hoping he ends up being a really good player for us but I really wanted Nicholas Robertson at the draft. Of course he has to go to Toronto of all places. Similar in stature to Hoglander but almost a full year younger. Currently lighting up the OHL with 1.64 ppg average. Typically speaking if a player can keep up that pace that is 1st line material in the NHL.
  12. Let's put it this way. If that goal went in you'd be looking at another highlight viral video and you wouldn't be saying that. I'm just glad he has the guts to try these sort of things in a good league while he is young. Will give him lots of confidence to try these things heading to the NHL.
  13. If Rathbone makes the NHL I wonder if their family will move to the west coast. It'd be difficult for Rathbone to make the trips out back east on a regular basis to see his brother.
  14. There is definitely a difference in the quality of competition. Their league (ECAC) is a lesser league than hockey east which includes teams (Northeastern, Boston College and Boston University). There is a reason majority of the USNTP go to hockey east because it's a better league. What difference there is I cannot say but I wouldn't say the difference is too extreme.
  15. Yup, both passes were quick too...like he looked up and it was off his stick. That will be a valuable asset to the Canucks going forward.
  16. An amazing start by Rathbone. Let's hope he can keep it up!
  17. 96.5% of "facts" are made up..
  18. Also, at least from his photos it seems like he's leaned out a lot. I remember him being particularly stocky for such a short guy. Perhaps going more lean has helped him gain a step as speed and skill should always be his game.
  19. Wow amazing, I didn't even know he had exploded offensively. 16 points in 10 games in Finnish Liiga is definitely on par with at least 1.2 - 1.3 ppg avg in the AHL. Maybe he isn't a bust afterall...but will he get a chance to play in our deep lineup? It's highly unlikely...
  20. Just not on the same pairing :p
  21. Definitely one of my favourite prospects. He's ahead of many other prospects who we've drafted in the second round in my mind, at least at this point in time (ie. Gadjovich,Woo, maybe even Lind).
  22. I will also add that it was the presence of mind to pull this off with a defender nearly right on top of him. I've never seen anyone do it with anyone in close proximity and that's what makes him special in my mind.
  23. Pretty sure this is old news now. Your link is from the 19th of October and it was not their 1st game of the season. You got me all excited that he had another 4 point night for nothing lol.
  24. I think the original problem with this trade, in which I will openly admit I was wrong, was that we all didn't know how we would be able to make it into the playoffs. There was too much uncertainty with our lineup and I truthfully didn't think we had a chance of making into the playoffs for the next 2 years, effectively giving the lightning a lottery pick. In that sense I think a lot of us were justified in thinking it was a bad trade at the time but luckily Benning had a plan and he considerably beefed up our lineup in the days following free agency and I could finally see a path where there initially was none to make it to the playoffs. I'm glad the trade has worked out even better than our wildest imaginations so far and I hope he can continue it but I'd still be happy if he reverted back to his mean production over the last couple of years. Credit where credit is due, Benning hasn't always made the best decisions but his track record is getting better with every year.
