  1. I bet you he only saw the stats and assumed it was a 3-0 score on Demko =/ Nor did he even watch/read the stats of the Vegas/Dallas series.
  2. Agree on the drive part. We all hope our whole damn team has Petey/Hughes/Bo drive..Even Bo has off days. If people are going to throw Virt under the bus and say he lacks Petey's drive, then you should throw (as oldnews mentioned above), half the team with him. Do I want Jake to have more drive..most definitely yes! Is Jake the worst player on the team/league that is only worth 950k? Definitely not. Even with not looking at the advanced stats, using the "eye-ball" test, there is no way you can't say Jake hasn't improved every year. When you look at his junior stats, he is currently following a similar trajectory. He was slow at the beginning and then became a first round pick. Even for the playoffs, he seems to be slow at the start. Yes..he is a first round pick and everyone's expectations are high but even Raffi Torres was drafted 5th overall. Got to tamper expectations and see him for him now instead of clouding your judgment with unrealistic expectations (esp since our recent high draft picks have done so well)
  3. Since you have made this observation, it seems that I can assume that you didn't watch Jake play the last two years and you are basing based on his first few years? Your arguments that he does not pass well or pass to fellow teammates was a knock on him when he first started playing in the NHL. If you bothered to see him play, you will see that he has held on to the puck much longer now and makes good passes majority of the time (albeit a lot of players make bad passes once in awhile).
  4. But no one would consider 950K for Virtanen to be justified (i am not quoting you because you said this, it is because you clarified about the RFA/UFA situation). Taking a hometown discount means keeping your current salary and not getting the raise that you should be getting. FOr VegasCanuck, please let us know which player in the league gets approximately 40 points and is not on an ELC? Please enlighten us!
  5. I agree, I actually foresee the Canucks signing him to a max $2 mil contract since he can literally give a hometown discount and that I'm sure he wants to stay close to home. But the previous poster was to not qualify him, and not go to arbitration and then sign him for under 1 million...
  6. I don't even think video games allow you to do that either.
  7. Is that even possible? Come on bro...please be realistic. Being a hater is one thing but it is better to be a realistic hater.
  8. You would welcome that out of position hit but his coach won't, then he will be benched and then won't make that hit. Then it goes through the same vicious cycle.
  9. According to the CBA rules, a RFA's qualifying offer cannot be lower than their last base salary. It must be 100% of their last base salary. Therefore, since he makes 1.4 mil, it can't be lower than 1.4 mil.
  10. To clarify, the qualifying offer must be at least the same from his last contract sum.
  11. I didn't purposely want to quote you but you, among others, are clearly either biased, just hate him, don't watch games or don't see what all the others "so called supporters" see. Let's start in reverse chronology. 1. In the playoffs, he produced 3 points. He was playing on average 9/10 minutes a game. I think he only played 2-3 shifts with the top line or second line and guess what, they produced. And then he was demoted back again. Besides hitting, if people care about the Corsi statistics, he leads the team in positive corsi (one reason is because he only plays 9/10 minutes a game so it is easier to get a positive corsi). Although he wasn't producing, people are saying he wasn't doing anything else. He finished all his checks (maybe except one or two) and still kept his defensive position and was not out of position and he had a few takeaways that weren't recorded. People then ask why can't he be like Tuch. Tuch plays with decent players or players who know how to utilize his speed (i.e. throw lob passes for him to go chase). In addition, if you follow Tuch, you can see that he is also sometimes inconsistent. For example, his last game against Dallas, he had zero shots and only like 1 hit. Also, if you guys bothered to EVEN listen to the SN650 of Benning's conversation, he said he is disappointed but also he understands its his first playoffs and he is just getting used to it. (Not everyone is named Markstrom/Hughes/Petey/Horvat/Demko). Sorry but BB6 has equally been disappointing. 2. In the regular season, the confusion by him continues as people claim that "he only had 30 good games" where he went on a points/goal tear. Guess what line he was playing on? He was playing on the 1-2 lines. And then after one game of not producing, he gets demoted back on the 3-4 lines and gets off the powerplay. For me, if my coach does that, I will get more frustrated and confused in what is expected of me. In terms of his points production, every year he has been better and better (similar to his junior days). It seems like he is those people who needs time to develop and adapt (some people takes time). As usual, can't compare him with people like Petey/Hughes. And if he wasn't scoring, he was like top 5 on the team for hits and takeaways/giveaways. 3. In terms of training camp, NO ONE SAID HE WAS FAT. He did not meet certain goals. I don't understand how people say he is fat or unfit to NHL standard when he just only missed a few goals. Not meeting a few goals can be (i.e. Green wanted him to be 200 pounds but he comes in at 205 pounds (that is also considered NOT MEETING GOALS)). But all of a sudden he is OUT OF SHAPE and FAT. SMH In terms of re-signing him, NO ONE SAID they will give him BIG money and LONG term. Although he does have arbitration rights, he and the Canucks can come to an agreement before such arbitration. I say approximately 2 mil for 2 years is about right. In terms of commitment, even as a supporter of him, I do agree he sometimes lacks that commitment and heart and doesn't have Motte's or Stetcher's heart. For example, going to a club before entering the bubble was kind of stupid. Ultimately I do feel that he has bad friends influence and is not allowing him to show his true potential thou. Therefore, for his sake, I won't be surprised if he was signed or traded but for his points and hits hits/takeaways, 2 mil for a middle six player is cheap in today's NHL standards.
  12. Exactly. He definitely is trying but he is over thinking every thing and it seems he rather make sure to go back on D instead of making that hit.
  13. Not true thou. I think that was his best game offensively. However, the I think since game 3, he has been hitting everything (although some I do agree have been love taps) but he can't run people anymore due to some penalties called on him before. As mentioned above, he has been called on a lot of penalties based on hitting people too hard. In addition, I think he has been put on a more defensive role and based on the past few games, he has been not turning any puck over (compared to others) and has a lot of takeaways more than giveaways. I think his defensive work has improved this post season. Also, during the season, he scored the most goals (as it seems people here only care about his points to categorise him as having a good game or not), was when he was on Bo's line or Petey's line. There are games, I remember seeing where Petey will just throw the puck up or somehow move it up ice and Jake will really skate into it. But no diss to Motte/Sutter/Beagle but they don't have that skill.
  14. As what I said in the pgt, you really see him letting on hits or are you just assuming? The game that I saw, the bottom six (except for Sutter), finished all their checks and Jake literally hit everything, even while back checking. In terms of the poster above that claims he was terrible in the other games outside of his great 25 games is definitely something I disagree as maybe because I'm a fan of him and really watch his every shift, he was one of the most consistent ones this year. Didn't have any noticeable terrible games but if you are expecting him to be like a petey or miller, then you are hoping too much. And if are expecting pods just to come in and take over, ok, sure, and if he doesn't? No plan B?
  15. Maybe it was me but it seems the bottom six save for Sutter played ok. I mean even Virt. He had like three/four takeaways/interceptions and no turn overs, finished every check, skated relatively hard except that one drive where he should drove to the net. On the other hand, Bo, Miller was kind of out of it today. Boeser seems lost and a step behind while Hughes was struggling. Petey was trying to do a lot and Motte had an great game but if Motte is our best player, we have problems. Sometimes with the Jake hate, it seems you guys are not really watching him and just assuming and continuing your own narrative. Has he been Alex Tuch amazing? Definitely not but he been bad, definitely not thou. Also, I don't know how people are expecting that he can just turn it on in the playoffs. Not everyone is a Bo, Petey or Hughes.
  16. I just hope Jake just concentrates more on the hitting and less on the helmet grab. He was hitting non stop this whole game and last game!
  17. That's true..I did wonder what happened. I agree with you, should of set the tone but maybe he was afraid for the boarding stuff..i'm not sure. But I'm glad he finished the remainder of his checks. I think Jake did well today and had a few chances too.
  18. But besides that one fly by, the game I watched, he finished his other checks. I don't know why we always dwell on one play.
  19. I get what you mean. These are two different arguments. I agree that no matter how many minutes Jake gets, he should be hustling and busting his ass. But it is another thing to demote some guy after you score goals on it. If he doesn't score again or does something lazy, then yes, I agree he should be demoted but after that tying goal, that line kept on getting chances. You should always reward someone for doing something well and not "penalize" them, it will send a wrong message. It's like, you help your boss do something well but instead of promoting you or at least keeping you at a certain ranking, he promotes a person who hasn't done anything and demotes you to a lower ranking. =/
  20. But this is what stawns means above. He gets a few good shifts with the top line which generates 2 goals and then he gets demoted back to 3rd/4th line and the BB6 gets promoted back up to top line. If I was a player like Jake, I'll be like WTF. It is those, thanks for generating 2 goals for us, now go back to the bottom. Maybe I am over thinking but it seems like this (many times in the past). While I do agree that he does seldom float but his floating doesn't seem to be those not skating and just figure skating around the ice. And people are like, why doesn't he finish every check he sees. You can't just always finish a check just because you need to, as sometimes doing that, you might be out of position. And I think he rather quickly goes back on D than to "finish the check" and be behind the play (esp playing on the 3/4th lines).
  21. Hope he streaks for 13 more wins..hahah..=p
  22. Thank you for your opinion. I definitely agree with you that he is not giving his fullest (even me as a fan of him, its frustrating and wants to know why, whether it is because he is afraid to get a penalty where if he does, he will be benched for the rest of the game or he just isn't in it because his mind is elsewhere (because of COVID? friends?). It is definitely frustrating as I do hope a local plays hard for his local team and be successful. In terms of your point of Jake improving slowly, he is definitely improving (albeit slowly) in the regular season but as mentioned, he is definitely been disappointing in this playoffs when a lot of people thinks he can excel. I think I read somewhere and also basing on his stats, he is a slow learner and takes time to adapt. I think it is his like 3rd year on the Hitmen before he scored 70+ points and it was his 4th playoffs with the Hitmen before he scored 13 points in 14 games. I think that's why he wasn't that good in tournaments such as World Juniors (although he had one decent World Juniors). However, I think the best way to do this is to hope Jake and his agent understands this and doesn't demand a ton of money (it is easier since he can literally give a hometown discount) and the Canucks sign him for a couple of years and decent priced until either Pods/Hogz or whoever else takes over his spot full time or he finally gets it. Because you never know with Pods/Hogz and also, for someone who can give us 18G/18A, signing him for a decent price is hard to find (although he is frustrating at times).
  23. It's just reporters spewing random facts. I mean based on his performance and the training camp videos we saw on twitter, he doesn't look out of shape. Is he a step behind or did he lose his timing and stuff, most definitely but that doesn't mean he is out of shape.
