  1. Yeah I think he needs Torts type..haha
  2. You don't understand the situation. Any coach can teach Horvat, Petey and Huggy because their work ethic, attitude, skill are all off the charts. What separates a great coach to a bad coach/immature coach is how they handle the other players.
  3. I think people here who aren't super negative towards Jake and actually sees his game and pays attention to him, notices this. I also agree with you on this. He is double clutching or over thinking on everything. Look at the highlights above, you don't see a single stutter step in his game and he is just playing it naturally. I think it frustrates him sometimes when some players making glaring mistakes but still gets the next shift while he is stapled to the bench. As what a poster said above, Green should just tell him and be a wrecking ball again and don't worry too much as Jake as the ability to out skate his mistake. I think last game's reverse hit on a Blues player get me a little glimpse of his physicality when he did this to Kornwall a couple of seasons ago.
  4. Agree to disagree. I guess each person judges another person using different theories and opinions and experiences. Have I been disappointed? Yes most definitely (even as a Jake fan) but to see his ice time grow more and more each game and basing it off on Green's style of deploying his players, I say he is improving albeit slowly but at least in the right direction. While some other players are kind of going the opposite direction. Will we ever see the full potential Jake? Maybe, maybe not but most likely not in Van. Edit: And also, although I agree with most that his work ethic and his mind is not as gifted as his physique, I do think a minor reason is also the way the coaches (Willie and Travis) have used him. He has never been on a line for a long period of time (as evident last game that he was literally on every line at least once) and that I'm sure he was given different instructions or expectations (i.e. he was a wrecking ball in his rookie year and his +1 but somehow in his recent years, he went to trying to become a less physical player) which makes you think what went wrong. From the highlights and a couple of televised games of the Hitman I saw, he was literally hitting everyone in sight and sniping as many shots as possible (the hitman fans can correct me if I'm wrong).
  5. I think it was because he played on all four lines today.haha..completely no rhythm. Each line is different so it's hard for him to build anyhting.
  6. For me, I blame the Canucks PR department in making that Horvat postseason highlight reel..Why would you do it in only 2 postseason games (or 6 including the QR).
  7. I guess you really didn't watch the game....these past two games (for what its worth) has been JV's best games. I think he is getting warmed up.
  8. Yes, based on previous games against the Blues, this line was actually playing together and they had some success...
  9. I found it odd that everyone is blaming Jake. I watched the 1st half of the game and he did well. I guess Green thought so too as he got 14 minutes of ice time, which was the highest so far in the playoffs. I have a feeling he is getting started. I'm just optimistic I guess. Yes, he can be a lot better and is kind of wasting his potential but he is a slow starter. To be honest, I rather bench Roussel before benching Jake.
  10. Bo made a point when Virt out of frustration during practice starting hitting people. And Tanev made a comment that Virt should follow strict quarantine. But I do agree, yes, management should make a point but especially in this series when more bodies is needed since the Blues are such a heavy team, I think we can save the lessons afterwards.
  11. The amount of penalties we are taking, Eriksson could rest a bit more especially when we had the lead and also especially we need Eriksson and company in the dying seconds. It's ice time management.
  12. I watched the whole game and he played well in the 5 minutes he played. To be honest, if green doesn't like him, why don't be just put in other people
  13. I agree with that. It seems like he was given a short leash since he got here. I think he was playing his game in his rookie season but a few mistakes here and there and that suspension, has made him question whether he can really hit someone or not. And the times he went on a streak this season, he was, guess what, playing alongside Bo on Bo's line and besides Petey and Miller on their line. No, i'm not saying we should do that now but we all knew he was not a player who will make other player's good, he is just those players that feeds off other people's talent. I think his worse showings so far has been being on the 3rd and 4th lines as he is definitely not a grinder type of player.
  14. Actually..if he had the desire like a MacEwen, he would definitely be a superstar. His talent along with crazy work ethic. I really do wonder why he is like that. I actually saw glimpses of it when it was in Utica..the desire I mean. The few games I saw, he was skating quite hard (the fans who watch utica more regularly can chime in). But the funny thing is, I was reading one of his scouting reports on eliteprospects.com and it says as follows: A formidable adversary for any challenger, Jake Virtanen is an imposing power forward in the truest sense. Possesses a non-stopping motor and creates an abundance of on-ice energy when throwing his weight around and establishing his physical presence. Exhibits world-class skating ability, and can blow by defenders just as easily as he can go through them. Stands up for his teammates and never backs down from a challenge. Displays a wicked, NHL-level release that challenges goaltenders of all skill levels. Becoming a recognizable asset when playing a more defensive role as well. All-in-all, a physical power forward that has the character traits, work ethic, and individual skills to pose a threat to whoever stands in his way. (Curtis Joe, EP 2015) The bolded part is the part I am confused considering his performances since he was drafted.
  15. Thanks everyone for the reviews on Jake. When I watched him this season, although I do want Jake to do well, there are times I do see him floating but there are some times I see him doing so well. I really wonder what it is. I guess I'll wake up at 6:30 a.m. tomorrow to watch the game myself.
  16. I have read mixed reviews of Jake and based on the stats, he wasn't that good but anyone can give me a fair review on him? But based on the games I watched during the qualifying round, he was fine, not his regular season self but fine. How was he today?
  17. If you bothered to read my post, I said BB6 was one forward I think that is slower and might not benefit from so much open space (i.e. Sedins). But last night, I saw Petey with Miller, Bo with BB6 and then Sutter with Pearson....=/
  18. One more thing I noticed this game (and throughout the whole season), why doesn't Green play Virtanen during 4 on 4 situations or even 3 on 3 (OT). I know people say he is a defensive liability. Although you can say he is not the best in the defensive side, with that much space, he can use his space to make it up (i.e. today on that Minny SH chance). I do like BB6 but he isn't the fastest and he is not any better than Virtanen on the defensive side so why doesn't Green play Bo with Jake or something like that. I still remember the only few times he got OT time, he didn't score but it was because of him, some defensive plays were made because of his speed.
  19. He was flying out there and did play with some sort of edge as he won a few puck battles. And also, playing 8 minutes..hard to get super engaged and be noticed.
  20. https://theprovince.com/sports/hockey/ben-kuzma-canucks-winger-ferland-fined-5000-for-spearing-hartman-in-game-1 It seems Ferland got fined only..good
  21. On an additional note, I do understand he wasn't the best at training camp and yes he was outplayed by Mac and even Ericksson but this is the "playoffs" or a way into the "playoffs", the series is only a best of 5. You can't afford to keep players who scored almost 20 goals for you (that is like a 2nd line/3rd line standard in the league) in the press box. If you wanted to give him a lesson, benching him for the exhibition was I think enough. You could force him to bag skate 2 times more than everyone else or go on the bike 2 times more than everyone else as a way to punish him. But to take him out of the lineup for a crucial best of 5 series or even the playoffs, it is all on Travis for being stubborn. Maybe this message is a bit premature as he might be in the lineup tomorrow but just keeping him off for game 1 was ridiculous. And yes, he wouldn't have made a BIG difference but against trap teams like Minny, you need players like Jake to barge in.
  22. To be fair, it is a bit of both. Jake did the best, at least from articles/reports (or people who lives in Utica can chime in), when he was at Utica away from the spotlight. I think if you read my posts, you would know I am a Jake supporter as I always do want the local boy to do well in his home team. However, with how Willie and now Travis is deploying him or rewarding/not rewarding him is frustrating. I see games where he was on the top line or Horvat's line and was clicking and then next game, he was back down to 4th line. I mean I do understand as a professional, you play with what you get but it is hard for him to build anything. One day you are offensively required to help the team, the next day, you are defensively required to help the team. We all hope Jake matures and Travis learns better but it seems that it won't happen. Either Travis leaves or Jake moves to another city away from Vancouver. There was an interview with Hansen and he did say that PFs take longer and that each person's maturity takes time (not everyone is like Petey or Hughes). Some players take longer to develop or score over others. I think JT Miller took 7/8 years before he finally got 100 goals while Horvat did it in 5/6 years.
  23. Anyone know the starting lineup? I have a bad feeling about this.
