OMG Debs, I was reading from page 27 (the page that your link directed me to) and until page 33/34. The posts were all hilarious. I think only you and a couple of other posters had faith in the pick. I think 95% wanted Benning fired. Oh man..I didn't research much about this Petey when he was drafted but the videos and stats and scouting report had me excited. Also, Benning has a history of drafting good/great players so I was confident in his pick.

I don't want to rely on stats or highlights only, but can you guys let me know how Jake Virtanen played today as just based on the TOI, he had the second lowest. Any reason for his low TOI or was it just because they had to cover McDavid with Bo's or Beagle's lines? -

To be honest, if you said that the past few years, I would completely agree with you (I am a JV18 supporter since he was drafted). But this year, you still think so? I have been watching most games and from most of the games I have seen, he has been pretty consistent this year thus far and definitely more than once or twice a month (more like a week now). Do I think he needs to improve in some areas? Most definitely but I think some mistakes he has made have been more inexperience as he is starting to play roles he didn't play much of before. (i.e. one sample I saw was that he turned over the puck in the last 40/50 seconds in his own zone when he could of tried to clear the puck off the boards or flip it but he stick handled it instead and got stripped of the puck). -

I won't say drown but more like no matter how good the horse is, needs a rest. Playing 20+ minutes every game is tiring

Actually I think he got PK minutes was the game in Pittsburgh when he and petey was sent out to try to tie the game. I don't think he got any OT time this season so far. -

I didn't watch the game as it was a 5 am start here in Asia. Did I read that Jake got OT minutes? Also, watching the highlights and reading 15 pages of comments, seemed like a fun for fans but bad for coaches type of game -
The rising NHL powerhouse that Jim Benning constructed

From what I read during those respective drafts, Petterson wasn't even top 10 according to most reports. Juolevi and Virtanen I agree was slightly off the list but not much as I think both were top 10. As we only wanted D, sergachev was an offensive D with bad D skills. Charlie McAvoy was the only one we missed I think. But a lot of people did. -
That's the thing, no one has given him the chance to even try. Didn't he play a few times last year and actually got PP goals? Also, for the PK, I think he can do it but it seems he isn't given a chance either =/ And people are like, other players drafted around him have more goals, but most of those players have like 15/16+ minutes. Also, I don't have a stat but it seems he plays better when he has more minutes.

[GDT] Canucks @ Oilers, November 30, 2019 -- B2B Part 1 Edition
Law of Goalies replied to therodigy's topic in Canucks Talk
Yo man, great post but there is a typo. The first sentence should be Oilers and not the Dallas Stars -
He is accountable for the minus for sure but you can't blame him for his coverage as it wasn't his man that scored. I mean there are many situations for other players where they just changed or was not even their fault..just happened to be on the ice when it happened. That's why the plus minus is not the best stat that people use.

To be fair, I think he got 10 seconds for the 4 on 4 before he had to quickly change to allow the PKers to come back on. And his stat line was decent today as he got 2 points and 6 hits. I think it was playing with Petey and Brock, he was really flying today. Edit: And before people complain that I didn't mention the -2, the four goals he was on the ice for, wasn't his fault as it was bad coverage by others or the D running into the goalie =/

But as you said..he plays the puck instead of making the monster hit. The reason is already mentioned by you. He is scared to make the smallest mistake because if he does, he will be stapled to the bench. In his first couple of years, he kept on going for hit first but ends up having the puck get past him (although he staples the guy) and then he is out of position. And also, how can he have 7 hits 7 shots when he only plays 9 minutes..come on. And also, there are some games (especially away games) where even the broadcasters said he blocked a shot or took away the puck but in the stats, its still zero. Weird also.
