  1. Oh so Baertschi can improve at 26 and Leivo can't? One of the reasons Leivo didn't come in sooner was the Leafs poor development system. It's no surprise to anyone that team stockpiled 36 added draft picks that thus far has only returned them 3 NHL players so far.
  2. And again Baertschi has a track record of being injured every season. Baertschi has missed 20 or more games 4 of his 6 full seasons, he's scored 30+ points once. Leivo is a bigger better 200ft player that is capable of chipping in offensively. 71% of NHL games were decided by 1 goal last year so while offense is good you need defensive responsibility too. Another element Leivo brings over Baertschi.
  3. If you want the production from said player it's best he actually plays the game. I don't know why you guys are so focused on point per game percentages when actual points matter more.
  4. How many goal posts are you going to move to make Baertschi a roster spot? He was waived and it was the right decision like it or not.
  5. Junior 66gp 64gp 63gp AHL 59gp 51gp 51gp with 28 NHL call-ups In that stretch 2016/17 he had missed a bunch of games NHL 76gp in first full season was a spare his last year and a half with the Leafs he has a good track record of staying healthy so far, better health record than Baertschi thus far
  6. He was a 30 point player once. He has yet to play a full season. Odds are much higher he won't play a full season than being a 30 point player
  7. I never said Baertschi will play the same number of games as last year, I said he has never played a full season, which is correct.
  8. Basing keeping him in the lineup based on “scoring potential” when he has never played a full season is a silly argument...
  9. His defensive game is based on puck play hitting has never really been an element in his game. He uses good reads and stick checking. I'd still rather he be moved but I get why he is still here.
  10. The point is Baertschi can't stay healhy and Leivo and Eriksson can. Baer just got squeezed out by competition which is great news for the team.
  11. Going by my logic Baertschi doesn't bring anything more to the table than Leivo. We don't yet have a player that makes Sutter expendable as Gaudette is not quite there yet defensively.
  12. Both Eriksson and Leivo outscored Baertschi last year AND they're defensively responsible. And both have stayed healthy.
  13. Sutter is a proven top 9 C defensive and PK specialist and Gaudette and Baer aren't. You really love comparing apples to oranges
  14. Brock is a legit 25+ goal score Baer is not, Tanev is a legit top 4 defenseman Baer is not, Sutter is a proven top 9 C and defensive PK specialist Baer is not.
  15. It simply came down to Eriksson and Leivo are more versatile. Again Eriksson 11g 29pts which he did mostly playing alongside (gasp Sutter and Beagle and bouncing up and down 4 lines), Leivo 14g 24pts>>>>>>Baertschi 9g 14pts and both are also better 200ft players. It shouldn't be this hard to figure out.
  16. He was given preseason just like everyone else and was deemed expendable.
  17. Because he is defensively stronger than Baertschi but offensively weaker than Leivo who is a better overall player at this point than Baertschi.
  18. Baertschi can't play a full season so hos scoring rate is irrelevant at this point.
  19. You can point out the positives of a player without being a “fanboy” I want Eriksson gone as much as the next person, until then he brings an element of the game Baertschi lacks.
  20. Since he has always been very defensively responsible and a solid PKer. Is it ideal absolutely not, but it is an element Baertschi lacks that Eriksson does not.
  21. Like it or not Loui’s defensive and PK skills trump the 30 or so games Baertschi will play at this point.
  22. How is a smaller, softer, oft injured player a better fit? Leivo can block shots, is defensively responsible and out produced Baertschi’s actual production. And Alf the top 6 is full so Leivo/Baertschi will be playing on the third line, where Leivo objectively speaking is the better fit. Period.
  23. But again why do that when Leivo is the better fit in the first place? Don't get me wrong I like Baer but we have just simply run out of room for him. Leivo is a better fit in the third line and our top 6 is full.
