White puts the ball in the net in the 38th minute....but he's obviously offside....

Beautifully taken free kick by Gauld....Veselinovic nods it on and it goes in just inside the far post....

Here I was, thinking it was a good thing for the 'Caps that Stefan Frei is out with an injury... ....but then, backup Stefan Cleveland makes a terrific save off a cracker of a shot by Berhalter that was destined for the top corner.....

So weird seeing the Sounders in a Red and Black kit....

I've been outside working in the yard, but it looks like the Jays just got no-hit by some guy named Manning.... -
Vegas has outdone itself again. I think I can safely call the MSG Sphere the world's coolest concert venue:

Yep. Vlad gets Mookie Betts in round one....if he wins that, he faces the winner of J-Rod and Alonso. -

Who ya got in the HR Derby? Alonso looks like the favorite again, but picking favorites is boring. I'm taking Robert. -
I feel like the real mistake here was not playing "prevent" on that play....and I think the Special Teams coach has to take at least some of the blame for that. Knowing that you can't afford to give up the single point, your coach should be telling you to stand 10 yards further back than usual, in case the kicker get ahold of one. That would have put Sims right on the goal line. He would have caught the ball in the air and likely taken it out to somewhere around the 20. Once the ball got over his head, he was in big trouble.....

I haven't seen anything official yet, but I'll be very surprised if Jackson isn't optioned back to Buffalo and a fresh arm brought in. Also, as far as I can tell, Bowden Francis is still up with the big club, so he'll likely be the insurance if Manoah falters. If things get really ugly, they'll probably have Mitch White eat some innings. -
Yet again, we see an American who doesn't get the differences between the Canadian and American games. Unfortunately, this time it cost his team the game. (although, one could argue that once the ball got over his head, he wouldn't have been able to get it out of the end zone, even if he had tried) There are some things about the Canadian game that I like a lot better than the US....the return game being near the top of the list...but for quite some time, I have disliked the rouge.....especially on missed FGs....

It always baffles me when I see things like this.... I get that a veteran player wants to pick where he ends up, but by going public, he's completely tied the Blazers' hands. It seems like the smart move would have been to put DL on the open market to see what kind of offers there were and then circle back to the Heat to see if they would match. Now Miami knows they're in the catbird seat and can go ahead and lowball Portland.

Just read an article that suggested Fred and Pascal had become frustrated with Scotty and some of the other young guys on the Raptors, creating a schism in the locker room that neither Nurse or Ujiri could bridge. FVV is a Rocket and now there is talk about the Raps exploring trades for Siakam. Word is, Atlanta has been kicking the tires.... Not sure what the Hawks are offering, but it feels like a player of Pascal's caliber should fetch a good return of prospects and/or picks. (and maybe a veteran shooter, if they need to make the dollars work) I think it's probably time to pull the trigger. This team isn't contending next season, with or without Pascal.

[Speculation] Canucks exploring Tyler Myers trade

Gotcha. But why pay that money if you don't have to? Anyway, that the rationale they used in the article. Again, it's all spitballing anyway. -

Probably just smoke, but I just read an article that had Frank Seravalli saying the Canucks and Sharks have been discussing Myers for Kevin Labanc, straight up. The hold up is apparently the $5 million bonus that has to be paid to TM on Sept 1st.... -
Well, it's understandable that a Broncos fan might be bitter....

Considering who Kelly's uncle is, I have decided to like him....except when he plays the Leos.....

Interesting comment online.... The Padres have DFA'd Nelly Cruz, right at a time when the Jays might be looking for a right handed bat to come off the bench. Now Cruz is older than dirt, but he's still got some pop in that bat and he walks a lot more than he strikes out (think a right handed Brandon Belt, but with a bit more power) It wouldn't be expensive and we've seen lots of cases where veteran hitters catch a second wind after a change of scenery.... -

I like it, but if I were putting it together, I'd balance the Lefties and Righties a bit more. Something like this: 1 - Springer 2 - Merrifield 3 - Vladdy 4 - Bo 5 - Belt 6 - Chapman 7 - Varsho 8 - Jansen/Kirk 9 - KK Ideally, you'd like Varsho to regain his form from his D-Back days and allow Schneider to occasionally slot him in at #5, but so far he hasn't earned it. I would also consider flipping DV and KK, (as you do) but Kiermaier actually seems to be most comfortable in the 9th spot. -

Way too lazy to go look it up, but my guess is that he lost most of them late. In those days, a pitcher would finish what he started. It's difficult to compare eras, (because for one thing, I think the hitters are better now) but if that Cardinals team had a bench full of relievers, including a "lights out" closer, Gibby probably would have won 30 that season, but had a lot less CGs.... -

The draw with Guatemala was the killer.... Thanks to that, Canada gets a quarter-final match up against the Americans, while Guatemala (who won Group D with a 3-2 win over Guadeloupe) plays Jamaica. It would have likely been only a one match reprieve anyway, as the winner of Guatemala-Jamaica will likely draw Mexico.... I don't imagine the game against the Yanks is going to be pretty.... -

When I was 16 and playing Midget Rep in Prince George, our coach convinced our minor hockey association to bring Laura Stamm in for for a weekend session. We were all a bit skeptical at first (remember, this was late 70's) but that didn't last long. It was hard to tell at the time, but as the season wore on, it was obvious that it helped us big time.
