  1. Hmmm....better than this one.....
  2. When I see these "RIP" threads, I always have to resist pointing out that we already have a dedicated thread for them.....but if anyone deserves their own, it's Betty White. Many people here are remembering the character Rose from the Golden Girls, but to me, she'll always be Sue-Ann Nivens.
  3. It's somewhat of a holiday miracle that no deaths have been reported due to the Colorado wildfires. 500 homes destroyed, 35,000 people evacuated, but nobody killed.... Here's hoping it stays that way.
  4. ....and there it is... I didn't bother responding because I knew that at some point people who knew more than me would be along to explain better than me. Thanks to @Jaimito and @DrJockitch for explaining things to the few posters who believe their "research" makes them more informed than the rest of us, when the truth is, it actually makes them more misinformed....
  5. I've been spending the last couple of days catching up on this thread and although I am admittedly no expert on infectious diseases, it's seems to me that some folks are making a very basic mistake when displaying their skepticism.... I'm seeing a lot of comments about how because of the current rate of Omicron infections that the mask mandates, social distancing, lockdowns and vaccinations, "didn't work". However, that ignores the fact that Omicron is basically a new virus, one that the current vaccines seem to be only partly successful at containing. My understanding is that for a virus to mutate, it needs a host. I would hazard a guess that these mutations took place far more often in the unvaccinated than they did the vaccinated. (If @Jaimito is still active ITT, maybe he could confirm or refute this) So the measures listed above were successful.....with Alpha, Beta, Gamma and Delta. The jury is still out on Omicron, but it appears as though it's less likely to result in hospitalization and/or death. However, it also appears as though it's still too early to say that with a high degree of confidence, so a cautious approach is prudent.
  6. TBH, I was a bit surprised that the tournament went ahead in the first place.... With all the cancellations that preceded it (NHL at the Olys, Women's U-18, Spengler Cup) I half expected the IIHF to pull the plug on this one too. Once they got started, I was hoping they could finish, but it looks like both the IIHF and I were being overly optimistic....
  7. Post one. You obviously didn't watch/listen closely, because nobody has ever claimed 100% efficacy
  8. Just read that John Madden has passed at 85.... https://www.cnn.com/2021/12/28/sport/nfl-legend-john-madden-dies-spt/index.html
  9. To be fair, I think you have to take mental illness into consideration in that case....
  10. Agreed. Luckily, Jakub Malek was equally as bad. Two of Power's goals and the one by Sebrango should have been saved, IMO....
  11. Happy with the offense, but the play of the defense and goaltending is worrying. If they play like that against the bigger teams they'll be in big trouble. Also, I agree that Power deserved the player of the game for TC, but the guy who really stood out to me was Mason McTavish.
  12. Islanders. Bryan Trottier is still my all time favorite player and outside of numerous Canuck goals, Bob Nystrom's tip in to beat the Flyers in the 1980 final is my favorite hockey memory. I don't cheer for any team just because they play in Canada. I'd cheer for the Jets or Sens, but none of the others. In fact, it's a toss up between the Flames and Habs for my most hated team. (Kings and Blackhawks with HMs)
  13. @Pears Congrats brother. The day couldn't have gone much better for a Bengals fan....
  14. I think to be safe you should just drink it all, Hip.... Seriously though, put it in coolers. It works for keeping cold out as well as heat,
  15. Not really funny....just awesome:
  16. They need one of these babies....
  17. I guess a lot of the frustration stems form the idea that we might not have experienced the Delta or Omicron variant at all, if everyone had bought in right from the get go. Yet we have people protesting and blocking access to clinics, willfully spreading disinformation and generally being disruptive to the goal of putting the pandemic behind us. Those that have done the right thing and thought about others, rather than just themselves are (rightfully, IMO) disappointed, to put it mildly.
  18. There was an interesting comment in that thread that went something like this: "If you're vaccinated and tested positive for Covid, yet experienced mild or no symptoms, congratulations. Your vaccine worked."
  19. Looking like our holiday weekend will be sunny and cold up here on the North Coast. ("Cold" being relative, of course. We're looking at -7 to -16 overnight. On the prairies, that's shirtsleeves weather)
