So you think that the refs cost the Canucks the game? Tha seems a bit at odds with your earlier post: In any event. I disagree that the Canucks lost because of officiating. -

I guess I''m nonchalant about it because I've got over 5 decades invested in the game and I understand how things work. Game management has been a part of NHL hockey since the beginning and is unlikely to change. I suppose the league could tell the officials to call everything, but I doubt that would make most people happy. We can agree to disagree on that. -

I'm honestly not sure what point you're trying to make here... Do penalties sometimes get ignored by refs because of game management? Yes. I've said so many times in many threads. Did it cost the Canucks the game? Only if you're of the opinion that the only calls the refs didn't make were infractions by the Red Wings. I am not..... -

That's exactly my point. The slashing penalty could easily have been spearing, but the referee made a judgement call...... -
Your opinion of Corey Hirsch's colour commentary work?

Now that's the kind of commentary that would really make a game more interesting..... "I tell ya Shorty, OEL has really impressed me so far.....the guy can really puck the shoot!" -

I was guessing sarcasm from Wolfgang there. I suppose I could have been mistaken.... -

@Alflives: You seem confused. Is there something I can explain to you? -
What was I thinking.....Of course Faux News would run this story.... As far as the story goes, I agree it's dumb, but I'm finding a hard time working up any outrage. That being said, I agree with CBH's assessment that this is the kind of self inflicted wound that drives moderates to vote Republican, even though I'd bet that most Democrats would disagree with it as well.

Sure....and I caught OEL get away with what could have been called Spearing.....that also could have changed the game completely.... As has already been pointed out, referees make those judgement calls all the time.Sometimes they go your way and sometimes they don't, but for anyone to suggest that the officiating was "brutal", or somehow was the difference in the Canucks losing, is just off base, IMO. In a nutshell, we didn't bury our chances. The Wings did.... -
Not much point posting nothing but a link when we can't read the article without subscribing to the WSJ.....

Watching the Patsies lose never gets old....even though I hate the Cowboys... A bit disappointed in Ceedee taunting at the end there....

So...I slogged my way through all 29 pages and I'm reminded of why I rarely post in PGTs after a loss... I agree the reffing could have been better, but people are acting like we saw a repeat of the Canucks - Sharks playoff series. It wasn't nearly that bad. Garland on Zadina was questionable, but as I said at the time, when a player is down after a hit, the zebras will almost always find a reason to make a penalty call. It doesn't matter if it's the home team or the visitors. It's been pretty much a guaranteed call for a decade. The disallowed goal was the correct call. The white or blue paint is irrelevant. Hogs has to get out of the way. Honestly, I thought the worst call was the phantom offside..... Officiating aside, I just have to SMH at the "fire the coach" and general angst after a mere three games into the season. How about we give it a few weeks, boys and girls? We haven't even played a home game yet.... BTW, I agree that the PP isn't very good. Too many players standing still....but....again, 3 games..... -

BTW, for those who are criticizing Cheech because of his use of personal anecdotes, I respectfully disagree. It's one of the things that I like about him. What sets him apart from Hirsch is that he has far more insight into the game. How many times has he been right when he says someone got a stick on a shot, or some other scenario that Shorty didn't see? Seems like Cheech is spot on about 90% of the time.... -

Not a fan..... In the game against the Wings, he was like a dog on a bone with the "Halak can't handle the puck" schtick...So much so, thaqt he started to try and justify the opinion by showing replays of Jaro playing the puck exactly as a 'keeper should and acting as if he did something wrong... Personally, I'd love to see the 'Nucks lure my home boy Darryl Reaugh away from the Stars. -
Good news and bad news so far today.... Good news: Jags finally get a win, beating the Phish in London. If you get a chance, take a look at the tying 54 yard FG. It looked 5 yards wide, before hooking just inside the upright at the last possible second. Bad news: Nick Chubb is out for the game against the Cards. Nothing against The Cardinals, but it's disappointing not seeing best on best in a matchup like that.

I was born on the same day as Wayne Gretzky.... My original sig (which I had for most of my 17 years on CDC) mentioned the fact that I was once in Montreal for a Midget tournament (called the Wrigley Tournament in those days) and got to meet several of the Canucks after they suffered a beat down at the hands of the Habs at the old forum. -
....as if the Cards' offense wasn't scary enough already....

Oh, BTW....I too am jumping on the Braves bandwagon. As much as that stupid chant and "Tomahawk Chop" irritate me, the rest of the field irritate me even more. Plus, there's the Freddie Freeman factor....I just wish Mike Soroka was healthy.... -

One of my all time favorite baseball tweets was back when Trevor Bauer was in Cleveland and after a meltdown against the Royals, was getting the hook from manager Terry Francona...An obviously frustrated Bauer turned and threw the ball over the center field fence, prompting an angry response from Francona.... After the inevitable fallout, someone tweeted this gem about the throw: "Angel Hernandez called it a strike"....
