It was actually "O Christmas Tree"....just with some of the "O Canada" lyrics. It was kind of like a Weird Al song, but sad, rather than funny...

Red Sox win the World Series. As great as it is to see Puig and Machado lose, it was nice to see former Jays, Pearce and Price play major roles in the victory. -
This is bad news for everyone: https://www.cnn.com/2018/10/28/americas/brazil-election/index.html One Trump was more than enough...

Phonsie!....basically ran the length of the pitch and then a perfect shot to the corner... ....what a shame they squandered his last MLS season....

I like that the Jays are moving a bit more towards the analytics side, (despite being and old guy myself) and I like the fact that they've hired a Puerto Rican, who will have a much easier time communicating with the young latin stars on the club. Of course, they haven't played a game yet, but it looks like a solid hire to me. -
What I find interesting about the Raps is that we were told to expect a better team defensively. While that may be the case (or may be as the season progresses) the team is undefeated, despite giving up over 100 points in every game so far. It kind of looks to me like the team is just playing well enough to win right now. If they ever put it all together, they'll be a truly scary team.

This is so depressing: https://www.cnn.com/2018/10/24/us/florida-middle-girls-allegedly-wanted-to-kill-classmates/index.html It isn't just that two pre-teens could conceive of such a thing, but it's also going to bolster the argument from the "moral" element of society that tells us that things like horror movies, Video games and rock music promote these type of acts, when it's really a severe lack of parenting...

Yep. They couldn't force anyone to take the buyout, so there are still a few long-time workers there. (my friend being one of them) Shenanigans is the right word, though. My buddy was the Bulk Foods manager at the time. After he refused the buyout, they bumped him over to the bakery department. I think they figured that he'd cave if he had to come in so early in the morning. They underestimated his level of obstinance. -

Agree with all of that....especially the last part. Unfortunately, the big bats of Yelich, Aguilar and Moose didn't really show up. Braun was the only "production" guy that actually produced. -

A lot of them, for sure. I used to play in a band with a guy who was a lifer at Save-On foods. (Overwaitea in those days) Several years ago, they tried to buy out as many of the full time employees as possible. The whole idea was to hire part-time replacement workers who wouldn't qualify for benefits. I have to assume that this is a common strategy. -
Also, I gotta say it's weird seeing three Florida Schools in the top 25....and none of them are FSU....
-
I'd be down with that...especially since the Bulldogs are just ahead of the Sooners and we have unranked K-State on Saturday... ...also hoping Oklahoma State can pull of the upset at home to the Longhorns...

'Struth. The thing that seems lost on them is the fact that higher wages means that less people will need to apply for those programs.... -
I was going to say the same.... ....but I don't want to draw any attention to myself...

It's strange looking at that post, Tre....my Sooners are 6-1, but have a perfect home and away record. The reason? Their one loss comes in the Red River Showdown game with Texas, which is always played in "neutral" territory: The Cotton Bowl in Dallas, which is just about exactly half way between Norman, OK and Austin....

...and try and take out the first baseman, when I finally do get there? Yes. -
Just read an article on SNET that said a few years ago, the Raps were seriously thinking of tanking for a shot at drafting Andrew Wiggins. They actually had a trade on the table with the Knicks for Kyle Lowry (Rudy Gay had just been dealt) and word was, DeRo was next. https://www.sportsnet.ca/basketball/nba/not-tanking-wiggins-luckiest-move-raptors-never-made/ Looking at how Wiggins (and most of the 2014 draft class) has panned out, this is probably the best non-move in franchise history.

Found myself cheering for the Red Sox last night, something I would normally never do... ...but against the Dodgers (and especially the Dodgers with Manny Machado) I'll make an exception... -
Thanks for the tip. I'll check it out.

This is very sad....and a bit scary... https://www.cnn.com/2018/10/23/health/adenovirus-outbreak-new-jersey-bn/index.html I don't think there's much doubt that decades of prescribing antibiotics for every little thing has created strains that are resistant to the drugs we have available. (although I have no evidence that this was the case with these deaths) it looks like those chickens are starting to come home to roost. We also have this new, Polio-like disease on the rise: https://www.cnn.com/2018/10/22/health/acute-flaccid-myelitis-cdc-stats/index.html ...and it isn't just in the US: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/montreal/afm-montreal-childrens-1.4875658

I was reading an article about the "Caravan" from Honduras, heading to the US (and currently in Mexico) and I was struck by the parallel between it and the invasion by the aliens in Three Body Problem.... Both take a long time, giving those at the destination ample time to prepare....and in both cases, they really have no idea what they're going to do when the "invading forces" finally arrive. The difference of course, being that in one case the invasion is the biggest threat to humanity in history, while in the other case, Donald Trump and his supporters would like everyone to believe this is the case...

This. It's also why raising minimum wage isn't the disaster that the right believes it is.
