  1. Just as an aside, a good friend of mine is a transplanted Londoner and he saw a list of potential Jays' managers....he said (without having a clue about any of them) that hands down, Stubby Clapp should be the new manager, based on the name alone....
  2. Further to that point: https://www.cnn.com/videos/politics/2018/09/28/lynne-brookes-kavanaugh-classmate-cuomo-cpt-intv-vpx-bts.cnn
  3. I'm certainly no choirboy, nor did I go to an Ivy league college, but I'm of an age with Kavanagh and also "like beer". I can say with perfect honesty that I have experienced several instances where the previous night's events were fuzzy, if not a complete blank. In fact, we had a word for such situations in those days.... ....we called it "The weekend"......
  4. Disagree. The republicans could have allowed a week for the FBI to investigate before these hearings and the entire fiasco could have been avoided. Instead they chose to blame the Democrats (as they do whenever something they don't like happens, such as the separation of families at the US-Mexico border) and call into question Dr. Ford's honesty. They could have avoided this entire mess, but that would have required agreeing with the Democrats on something and that's something that they just can't do. As far as the "exact same thing in 2016, I think this is very different. I suppose we'll see which of us is correct in November.
  5. For those who (like me) are going through GoT withdrawal and are also awaiting Martin's next book in the series, here's a small fix for you: https://www.msn.com/en-ca/entertainment/tv/game-of-thrones-author-unveils-new-book-excerpt-with-final-season-implications/ar-BBNElKl?li=AAggSpD Link to the excerpt: http://georgerrmartin.com/notablog/2018/09/27/a-fire-blood-excerpt-just-for-you/
  6. FFS! I have to cheer for the Patsies this weekend?
  7. Personally, I don't think that SCOTUS appointments should be for life. They should come up fro review after a certain period of time. 4 years seems to short an interval. I'd suggest 8 years.
  8. I realize that this is an opinion piece and that the author might have an axe to grind, but the GOP had better hope she's wrong when it comes to election day.... https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/politics/republicans-just-lost-women-for-good/ar-BBNFApF?li=AAggNb9 It looks like the GOP is going to get their guy on the Supreme Court, but it is (hopefully) going to cost them dearly....
  9. I wonder how much influence those protesters had on Flake? All I can say to them is, "well done".
  10. Exactly. As Jimmy mentioned earlier, that sort of attitude would also let the Catholic Church off the hook for molesting children many years ago. Most right minded people see no difference if a sexual assault was committed yesterday, or in 1970.
  11. The point is, no one should have to be convinced of guilt or innocence. This is not a criminal trial. You should watch the Fox interview, and then read up on the contents of his year book and the statements made by former students about the "party" culture of the schools he went to. Then see if you can convince yourself that Kavanagh hasn't been lying through his teeth.
  12. I've got three of them, actually. And I for one would hope that if they showed the courage to come forward, that they would not be automatically dismissed as liars by prominent politicians and random dickwads on the internet. FTR: No-one has stated categorically that Kavanagh is guilty of a crime. What they're saying is that they'd like to see due process carried out to remove the cloud that hangs over this nomination. Some of us are also saying that this hearing has shown him to be a liar and someone who reacts with anger and spouts conspiracy theories in the face of allegations against him. Some of us believe that these facts alone disqualify him for the position he's seeking.
  13. A lot to unpack here... He's been "looked into a half dozen times" you say? Why so many? Don't you think that once should have been enough? If he's willing to exaggerate this point, why should we believe anything else he says? We already know that he lied about being a choirboy in high school and college... So he's worried that the "Dems will win and he won't get the job"....which is to say that the people will have made their choice on the matter clear. But we don't want the public to decide who sits on the Supreme Court, amirite? So Ford "conveniently remembers the wrong guy"? "Not to discount her testimony"? You realize with those two statements you are doing exactly that....? Just so we're clear, you believe that Dr. Ford suffered through a sexual assault, said nothing for decades and then seized on a political opportunity to discredit a judge, all the while knowing the price that she'd pay, personally and professionally? What is her motivation? Is George Soros paying her? People wonder why women are hesitant to come forward about sexual assault. All they need to do is read posts like yours to know the answer to that.
  14. As most of us thought, the proceedings yesterday changed nothing. The vote will go ahead today.... Also, Jeff Flake has said that he will support Kavanagh. This has all the earmarks of a rubber stamp.
  15. I'm not sure about that. Watching BK's testimony, I believe that his anger and outrage are real. He honestly believes that he is innocent. The most likely scenario, IMHO, is that the incident happened as Dr. Ford describes it and Kavanagh doesn't remember it, because he was too drunk. Mark Judge is the wildcard. He either was too drunk and like Kavanagh doesn't remember, or he's lying to cover for his friend. He's already on record saying that he never saw Brett engage in the kind of behavior described by Ford, which, considering the writings in BK's yearbook, suggest that he's being less than honest. I think it really comes down to the fact that Kavanagh and the entire GOP don't want an FBI investigation because it might delay the process long enough for the mid-terms to happen and the Republicans to lose the house and maybe even the Senate. They see getting this done quickly as the only way to be 100% sure that they get the chance to appoint Kennedy's replacement. IMO, they really don't care about Ford, or whether the allegations are true. They want that seat on the Supreme Court and all other considerations are unimportant.
  16. It seems like an easy solution, but I'm not so sure.... Had Bernie ran as an independent in 2016, he almost certainly would have taken millions of votes away from Hillary, but I have my doubts that he would have changed Trump's number significantly. Trump would have actually had this "landslide" victory that he loves to brag about so much. I believe Bernie realized this and it's why he threw his support behind Hillary once she had secured the nomination. He (quite rightly) saw the situation as one where Trump needed to be stopped at all costs and he sacrificed his own political ambitions to try and see that it happened. The fact that he was unsuccessful does not diminish the effort, IMO. Further to that point, there are many people who believe that Ralph Nader running as an Independent is what gave Dubya the victory over Al Gore in 2000.
  17. I think Hippy said it best on page one.....of the two, it was the victim who was far more composed under questioning. The accused got angry, sniped at the people asking questions and had his description of himself from the Fox interview shown to be a lie... There is no burden of guilt or innocence, this is not a criminal trial. It is, in essence, a job interview, one that Kavanagh failed, IMHO. From his misrepresentation of his high school and college life in the Fox interview, to refusing to answer questions, he has shown himself to be unworthy of a post on the highest court in the country. There are many other qualified candidates. Even hard core Conservatives, such as the GOP wants. We all know Trump had his heart set on BK, because of his stance on whether a sitting President can be charged with a crime, but it's clearly time to move on to plan B, TBH, as someone who finds the current state of the Republican party to be despicable, I am torn. On the one hand, I see a huge issue with this candidate attaining a lifetime appointment to SCOTUS, but OTOH, I see the GOP paying a price at the polls both in November and in 2020, as undecided women (and those who may have voted fro Trump out of distaste for Hillary) realize how much they matter in the eyes of the Republican party and say "Enough!".
  18. Yep. Defensive lapses late and lack of finish early have been the major contributors to this sub-par season. IIRC, they still don't have a clean sheet this season?
  19. Hard to believe that it's still going....nice work Clutch!
  20. Kind of disappointing that Estrada's time with the Jays may be over and that so few fans seemed to realize it as he walked off the field last night....
  21. I can't dispute that maybe a new voice is needed, but IMHO, Lenarduzzi should have been let go a long time ago.
  22. I believe the politically correct term is "Gender Fluid Frogs".... ...of course it's not likely to affect the "street" name, "Frags".....
  23. If I have to explain why wearing blackface is racist, then yes, I believe you're "missing something"......
  24. I know that trashing the CFL is what all the cools kids are doing these days, but at least they're not trying to legislate QB sacks out of the game.
