  1. I think these are the three key recommendations/points in the judge's decision: This is exactly what many of us were saying as the dispute was brewing. BC needs to see a plan that provides us with absolute assurance that a spill will be cleaned up quickly and completely and would never be found wanting over a "who pays?" argument. I think these two points should provide some reassurance to those who think that First Nations are just anti-pipeline and will do/say anything to make sure that it doesn't happen. As stated in the decision, their concerns were legitimate and a government dealing in good faith should be able to find a way to address those concerns and move the project forward. BTW: Thanks to @Violator and @nucklehead for posting.
  2. Actually, you do. But you're never going to admit it and apparently you're never going to back up your accusations, so I guess we'll just leave it at that...
  3. ...and I'm totally okay with that. Of course, that means the Yanks have to up the ante when it comes to the player(s) coming back....
  4. Thing is, you have a history of making such claims without backing them up. As far as I'm concerned, you need to provide some kind of proof if you're going to outright call someone a liar. Saying "you know for a fact" doesn't really cut it.
  5. I dunno, if you're going to flat out call someone a liar, I think you need a bit more than that....
  6. So? How does that prove Hippy doesn't know the guy?
  7. Shi Davidi says the Donaldson has been pulled from the lineup in Dunedin today and it's not health related.... ...fingers crossed...
  8. It's disappointing, but the good news is they didn't give anything up to acquire either of them. Jose Reyes and Brett Lawrie haven't been missed. It would have been nice to have Tulo's salary to play around with, but if we're being honest, another 20 million wasn't going to allow us to compete with the Red Sox or Yankees.
  9. I don't think they'll get much, TBH. JD is a pure rental and his health is still in question. At this point, I'd be happy with a bullpen arm, or a mid-level prospect.
  10. The whole "BS" claim really struck me as odd, because I remember Hippy telling his story and then linking to an article about his friend who had been shot in the head. Seems like a pretty elaborate "hoax", with nothing to be gained, so I completely believe Hip's story. Also, there's nothing in his posting history that would lead me to believe he would make something like that up. I think Strome has some 'splainin to do. If you're going to outright call someone a liar, you'd better be able to back it up.
  11. Word is the Cards are kicking the tires on JD....Kolten Wong and Jedd Gyorko both injured, so St Louis might need some insurance. Hopefully they can work out a deal by the end of the day. It would be a win for all three camps (Donaldson himself being the third)
  12. I know it's a bit odd to single out this part of the "discussion", but I'm curious: How to you "know" it's BS? I too know someone who was there, but luckily he was not not among the victims. Do you disbelieve that as well?
  13. Keep it up Shifty and I'll beat you to within a centimeter of your life.....
  14. Yep, very interesting, NPF. Thanks for posting. I think the author(s) are trying a bit too hard to make connections, but I have to admit that knowing Lenarduzzi like I do, nothing would surprise me. That being said, I believe that Kendall Waston has been the best signing since Camillo and if BASE could get us another just like him, it probably wouldn't matter who the 'Keeper is....
  15. I'm sure someone will take a 1 year flyer on him, but it won't be the Jays. He QO number is just too high...
  16. That's looking less and less likely. No team is going to claim him off waivers and if the Jays did manage to trade him before Friday, nobody is going to give up anything of significance for a rental coming off a lengthy stint on the DL. There's basically zero chance that the Jays will offer him a QO, because he'd probably take it. It's sad to see it come to this, but the Jays need to cut bait....
  17. Henderson is one career win away from tying the record for career wins as a Canadian golfer (Mike Weir, Sandra Post, George Knudson).... ...at 20 years of age. By the time her career is over she'll be miles ahead.
  18. I agreed with the 3rd down gamble, but I hated the QB sneak call. The Leos had barely made it earlier in the game and then they clear everything out so the Riders know the sneak is coming. Give that ball to JJ and let him hit the hole, rather than hoping an O-Line surge gets you there. it's this predictable play calling that has been the team's hallmark since Wally took the helm and it's time to change, IMHO.
  19. Spurs go into Old Trafford and knock off Man U, 3 - nil. It's early, but that's a nice start to the season....
  20. I was thinking this yesterday. Right now the HR streak by Morales is the only thing we have to look forward to. Gotta like the fact that they're playing the O's tonight and they'll be facing a righty with an ERA of 5.50....
  21. I think we saw a microcosm of what's gone wrong defensively for the 'Caps this season, near the end of last night's game. A late free kick from close to the sideline had players from both teams lined up just outside the 18 yard box. It was eerily similar to the late free kick that allowed NYRB to score the late equalizer last week and just like on that play, there was an Earthquake player standing all alone with a clear path to the far post. The broadcast team mentioned it at the time, but for whatever reason, none of the 'Caps' defenders moved to mark him. Luckily, the free kick went into the penalty area and was cleared, but it was an inexcusable lapse considering what happened last week and it's an example of the defensive dysfunction that this team has shown all season.

  23. That's what makes Science Fiction so cool. Smarter people than me figure out the possible (and impossible ) ways to get around the problems involved with Interstellar travel. One of my favorites is a Chinese writer named Cixin Liu. He doesn't try to exceed the speed of light. He just gets very close to it. (Something we're nowhere close to doing) Because of that, earth is involved in a war with aliens spread out over a period of 400 years. Basically, we know their coming in 4 centuries and we know they're far more advanced than us, so we put the best and brightest to the task of coming up with a strategy and technology to help us win. (Spoiler alert: It sort of works) Unable to travel to earth instantaneously themselves, the aliens have nonetheless figured out a way to "spy" on earth in real time, using Neutrinos. Another angle that Liu uses, is that the main reason we haven't heard from extra-terrestrial civilizations is that none of them are dumb enough to make themselves known. (Of course, we are dumb enough) The gist is, the cosmos is a "Dark Forest" where civilizations hide from other civilizations who may be more technologically advanced. In this view, the more advanced civilizations take a "Shoot first, ask questions later" strategy. The preferred method of battle being to simply cause the enemy civilization's home star to go Nova...
  24. I agree with @Ronaldoescobar The sheer size of the universe tells me that there has to be thousands (if not millions) of civilizations out there, many of them more advanced than our own. However, the distances involved, coupled with the speed of light constraint make it extremely unlikely that they're just popping in from time to time to check out some Iowa farmer's corn crop.
