  1. It's a little hard to believe that the government would call a kid walking his dog "negligent" in this situation: https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/world/idaho-family-says-cyanide-trap-injured-their-son-killed-their-dog/ar-BBMoD8t?li=AAggFp4 Call it crazy, but if the trap was placed to protect livestock from Coyotes, maybe a warning sign would be appropriate? I'm pretty sure Coyotes can't read....(Unless they meant Wile E. Coyote, or course)
  2. As I said, we'll agree to disagree about that. IMO, the person asking the question got exactly the response she got.
  3. I'll just say this: It appears to me as though some people are trying pretty hard to find something to criticize Trudeau over. If you believe that he should have ignored the racist overtones and answered the question (which I admit I have no idea whether that number is grounded in fact) that's fine. I disagree and we'll leave it at that, however I'd also point out that had JT answered someone who posed any question in such a manner, he likely be faced with spurious and insulting questions from that point on, wherever he happens to be.
  4. If you say so.... ...I think we have differing definitions of the word "equally" though.....
  5. I doubt that a black person would have made reference to quebecois souche, but as long as the question was framed in the same manner, then I'd say no.
  6. Disagree. She clearly had a racist agenda and I'd rather my elected officials don't offer such queries any semblance of legitimacy by answering. If she had couched her question in the guise of "Have illegal immigrants cost the taxpayers of Qubec $164 million dollars and if so, what do you plan to do about it?" that would be a different story.
  7. Yeah, I dunno.....I think it's more her comments that make her a racist, rather than her non-support of "every single shred of the left wing agenda". You keep claiming to be a "centrist", but then you post using phrases like the above and phrases like "leftard". Just so you're aware: This is why people aren't buying the "centrist" thing.
  8. I'm still not sure how you tax the entity who's selling the product. Deduct it from the payment made by the purchaser? Won't they just up the price to offset? In regards to replacing Saudi oil with Alberta oil, all of that sounds great. (and TBH, I'd support such a plan) But can it be done at the same cost?
  9. Add the tax to whom? At what level? Do you tax the importer when they resell the oil to the distributor? Do you treat it like you would someone bringing stuff home from the States? I think this is what Hippy was getting at when he asked "How"? No matter how you do it, the consumers are the ones who will bear the cost, not the Saudis. Id be okay with this, as I support the government in their stance against the KSA, but it isn't as simple as "stop buying Saudi oil and buy Alberta oil instead". They're different grades and the more likely scenario would be buying from Venezuela, or Nigeria.
  10. This is both tragic and miraculous at the same time: https://www.cnn.com/2018/08/21/us/toddlers-survive-car-crash/index.html The fact that the mom was ejected from the vehicle could be telling.....wear those seatbelts, folks.
  11. Gunners 0-2 to start the season.... That being said, City/Chelsea is a pretty tough way to start your campaign. Maybe some relief with the also 0-2 Hammers coming up on Saturday.
  12. Thank you! Having a Jets fan on the boards makes me slightly less embarrassed to be a Bills fan...
  13. Brek Shea somehow fell asleep on that set play. Inexcusable... That being said, Waston deserves a large part of the blame for that late equalizer. I've been one of his biggest supporters and have often lamented the fact that he doesn't have the support he needs since the departure of Tim Paker, but he clearly put his knee in the back of the Red Bulls player and gave him a shove afterward for good measure. After the sending off, a player needs to understand that officials, being human beings, are not going to give you the benefit of the doubt in these situations. (Especially if you're a guy with a reputation for hard play) There was basically zero chance that a foul was not going to be called there and it's frustrating, because it was unnecessary. I love KW as a player, but he needs know when to tone it down, or it will continue to cost this team critical points.
  14. This just makes my blood boil: https://www.cnn.com/videos/justice/2018/08/18/toddler-rescued-hot-car-overnight-deputy-sot-wxp-vpx.hln/video/playlists/dangers-of-hot-cars/ Several children have died as a result of being left in hot vehicles, yet brain-dead adults still decide that leaving their kids in the car is okay... Seriously, WTF is the matter with you if you can't figure out that this is a horrible idea.
  15. Doesn't really belong in this thread, but it might restore your faith in Canadian baseball, at least somewhat: https://www.cbc.ca/sports/baseball/little-league/little-league-world-series-dio-gama-1.4788871
  16. The PIPSC report on the poll blames the tax system's flaws on staff cuts in 2012 by the former Conservative government of Stephen Harper, which at the time was trimming spending across departments to eliminate the deficit. The Liberal government has since restored some of that funding, notably directing new money to collecting tax debts and chasing more offshore tax dodgers. But the union said there remains an annual budget shortfall of $500 million compared with funding levels in 2012. The result, said the union, has been fewer auditors, less training and outmoded technology — and a CRA failing to keep pace with agile tax lawyers, accountants and consultants in the private sector. Yep. That is actually mentioned in the article. It wasn't posted ITT as an indictment of Trudeau, it just seemed the most appropriate forum. As a father of daughters that work in the service industry, I find it a bit distressing that the CRA is more concerned about servers who don't claim their tips than they are rich scumbags who hide their money in offshore accounts. I've said it previous threads: The CRA is the most corrupt, dysfunctional agency in the country.
  17. This is not surprising, but it is disappointing: https://www.msn.com/en-ca/money/topstories/most-cra-auditors-polled-say-canadas-tax-system-is-skewed-to-protect-the-wealthy/ar-BBM2rAb?li=AAgh0dA Good news, I suppose, if you're an investment banker....Bad news if you work in the service industry....
  18. We knew this was coming, but it's still a gut punch: https://www.msn.com/en-ca/entertainment/news/queen-of-soul-aretha-franklin-has-died/ar-BBM0H9A?li=AAggNb9 So long, Aretha...you really were the Queen....
  19. Ask and ye shall receive: https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/world/walk-in-the-woods-japan-toddler-missing-for-3-days-found-alive/ar-BBLYOdE?li=AAggNb9
  20. I'm liking what I see from Jansen behind the plate so far.... He's got some learning to do about calling pitches and framing, but he looks to have all the tools. Let Martin walk next year and let Maile and Jansen platoon. Maybe sign a backup as insurance....
  21. Sportsnet.ca is saying that Phonsie is likely out for the 2nd leg against TFC. He looked slow and tentative in training. (confirmed by Robbo) Personally, I prefer to sit him out until he's 100%. I'm more concerned with the playoff hunt than I am the Canadian Championship. The official screwed that up by issuing that BS straight red to Felipe anyway...
  22. This is a disturbing story. With all the Muslim bashing that we seem to hear from so many so-called evangelicals.....what that saying about "glass houses"? https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/world/‘they-hid-it-all’-catholic-priests-abused-1000-children-in-pennsylvania-report-says/ar-BBLXtTS?li=AAqARMz
  23. Grandy clears waivers.... Probably won't be able to get much for him, but I could see contending teams having a use for a left handed bat with power, especially one who can lead off and draws a lot of walks.
  24. Yeah, Nerwinski's the other guy I trust back there....I just wish he were taller....
