  1. I hope he can stay healthy this season. That's far too much talent to be on the sidelines...
  2. At least you had a belt.... ....Dad used to beat us about the face and head with a broken bottle and then dance up and down on our graves, singin' 'Allelujah.....if we were lucky.... (it was right after we got evicted from our 'ole in the ground)...
  3. Once again, JJ Watt is dispelling the image of pro football players as rich, entitled thugs: https://www.cnn.com/2018/05/21/us/jj-watt-who-is-texans-nfl-santa-fe-victims-trnd/index.html Not just a great player. A great human being.
  4. And I for one, am sad about that. Bats was a moody and sometimes self-centered guy, but he was also one of the greats this franchise has ever seen and he always put it all out there while wearing the Jays' jersey. I wish the organization could find a place for him, so he could move into the next chapter in the city where he became a star.
  5. I think that anyone who is looking for the perfect person to vote for (ie one who shares all of the same priorities) is going to be sorely disappointed. I didn't vote for JT. I voted for the person in my riding that I had the most confidence in. He is NDP, but I'm anything but a fan of Angry Tom. Looking at the three choices we had for PM, I'm okay with how things turned out. Am I disappointed over voter reform and the current KM pipeline situation? Yes. But of the two, I understand the position he's taking on the pipeline. He knows he's going to piss somebody off, whatever happens, so he's taking the path of least resistance in supporting the interests of Alberta and Canada in general, at the expense of B.C. I don't like it, but I understand it.
  6. Canada all the way. But I'll always be embarrassed by Bobby Clarke's deliberate attempt to injure Kharlamov....
  7. I think most people with a modicum of common sense agree with your assessment of Socialism. (EI, CPP, MSP are all examples as well) It's those who attempt to demonize it with comparisons to old school Communism, who are twisting the narrative. It's like accusing Fiscal Conservatives with being Fascists. Just because two ideologies lie on the same side of center in the political spectrum, it doesn't mean they're the same thing.
  8. Votto's remarks were disappointing and I see why he's walking them back today. That being said, my experience is that things said in the heat of the moment are more honest than those that often come later on. He's a great ballplayer, but they aren't always nice guys.
  9. Actually, since I began this by quoting an article from the Toronto Star, I doubt that I'm the only one. And I doubt very many remember anything about Ignatieff, (other than he didn't actually live in Canada for quite a while) but I bet a lot of people remember Harper's participation in that NYT ad...
  10. Spin? I suppose facts are "spin" when they don't fit your narrative. In any event, you don't seem to be too worried about Scheer's prospects after Harper's NYT ad, so I suppose that's answer enough.
  11. Yeah, I'm going to go ahead and disagree... Firstly Ignatieff wasn't even Trudeau's predecessor. Secondly, he was Liberal leader for less than three years and never formed a government. Compare that with Harper being Scheer's immediate predecessor, making an unpopular statement in the Times, in support of an unpopular American president, all coming after almost a full decade in the PM's office... But yeah, other than that, they're exactly the same...
  12. Sure, but who cares? We talking about Harper and whether his unpopularity will rub off on Scheer.
  13. Head scratcher? I'd say that an almost 70% disapproval rate certainly means that Harper is unpopular. YMMV...
  14. FWIW, I agree it's just gamesmanship on the part of the Libs. AFAIK, Scheer hasn't spoken out about it one way or another, but until he does, Trudeau is going to make it look like they're on the same page. Harper is unpopular, so the Liberals will be hoping some of that rubs off....
  15. Because Scheer is going to be painted with the same brush: https://www.thestar.com/opinion/star-columnists/2018/05/10/a-stephen-harper-endorsement-of-trump-gives-the-liberals-a-foreign-policy-opening.html Unless you think that Canadians in general are going to be sympathetic to politicians who curry favor with Donald Trump?
  16. So Strome....Stephen Harper's support of Trump leaving the Iran deal can't be a good thing for Scheer, I don't think. Trudeau is almost certainly going to seize on this opportunity to paint the current PCs with the same boring shade of white that Harper favors. (In fact, I'm pretty sure Freeland has already done so) Unless you're of the opinion that Canadians like being told that they should capitulate to Donald Trump. Bearing in mind of course, that this is the same Stephen Harper that criticized Jean Chretien for not blindly following the coalition of the stupid into Iraq in '03....
  17. Davies. I don't know, but something tells me that if he fetched a big transfer fee, Lenarduzzi would use the money to buy a half dozen South and Central Americans at around 200k each...
  18. https://www.sportsnet.ca/soccer/tfcs-giovinco-bradley-top-earners-mls/ 'Caps are 16th out of 23 in team spending at just over $8 Million. That's about $18 million less than top spending TFC. (This is a league where you can buy a championship) TFC have the top two earners in the league in Giovinco and Bradley, (both over 6 million per) with Jozy Altidore not far behind at 5 Million. In contrast the highest paid Whitecap is Kei Kamara at $1 million. What hurts even more however, is the fact that LA Galaxy somehow managed to land Ibra for $1.5 million. One has to wonder why Vancouver has never pulled off anything resembling that sort of coup. It's been said many times: (but bears repeating, IMO) this team will go nowhere as long as Lenarduzzi is in charge and as long as ownership continues to try and compete on the cheap.
  19. Milos is too big. It's helps with that huge serve, but it hurts everywhere else....
  20. Watching last night's game, I thought we might have been looking at some kind of history....If not for an absolutely perfect throw by RF Mitch Haniger, the Jays would have hit 5 consecutive doubles. It was impressive. I also wanted to slap those idiot fans who reached into the field of play on what should have been a triple for Teoscar and very possibly led to him hitting for the cycle...
  21. A class act all around. The Roger's Center crowd gave him quite the ovation and in return Paxton kept pointing to the Maple Leaf tattooed on his forearm. I don't think I've ever felt so good about my team getting no-hit....
  22. Did you catch that video of him going yard, opposite field, off a tee? It's hard enough to hit home runs, but when you have to supply all the power....
  23. Thanks for posting, Mack. Very informative.
