  1. Thanks for posting Mack. @chon derry has mentioned this several times, whenever we get on the subject of pipelines. It may fly under the radar for the bulk of BCers, but those of us up here in the sticks have been hearing about Eagle Spirit for quite a while.
  2. The whole "I'm taking my talents to South Beach" thing.... The guy is a fantastic athlete and misses zero chances to remind us all about it. Meanwhile, Durant is the guy everyone hates for doing exactly what Lebron did. Except, of course, he gave the credit to his mom....
  3. I'd be happy with the Warriors, because I can't stand LeBron. At this point, it's anyone but the Cavs for me. I'm still holding out hope that the Raps can come back in the series. They crapped the bed down the stretch in game 1 and should be able to improve.
  4. Boston, LA,Chicago, LA.... Just sayin'....
  5. I don't believe that the league is fixed, although I agree that certain players always get the benefit of the doubt. (Shaq comes to mind right away) However, even if it were, I wonder if that's the match-up the league would want. You have two of the biggest population centers in the US in Philadelphia and Houston and two very marketable stars in Harden and Embid.... As big as Steph and LeBron are, we've all been there / done that. If I was Silver and could have my druthers, I wouldn't be hoping for yet another Cavs-Warriors final. My two cents.
  6. So Kevin Love's elbow to the face of Demar has been upgraded to a Flagrant 1....which if reviewed and called at the time it occurred, (as Dwayne Casey was asking for) would have put DeRo on the line for two, plus possession for the Raps. https://www.sportsnet.ca/basketball/nba/foul-cavaliers-love-raptors-derozan-upgraded-flagrant-1/ No way to know what would have happened, but in a 1 point loss, that missed call really hurts.
  7. Yeah....Ram 3500, or Silverado, or something....
  8. Although I wish he had chosen the Jays, I'm just glad that none of the big three "buyer" teams landed him....
  9. Jammed with Karl occasionally. Joda and I were actually in a band together for several years. The other guys were Kevin S. and Chuck B. But yeah, spent most of the 80's touring Western Canada. As far East as Brandon, (and Flin Flon) as far North as Yellowknife and the entire length of Vancouver Island. The first band I toured with was from 'Stoon, so I spent a lot of time traveling around Saskatchewan.
  10. Funny story about that particular trip: We only stopped in Rosetown because our vehicle's crank shaft broke. We were stuck there for a couple days in a (very) cheap motel, waiting to see if our truck could be fixed, and if so, how much it was going to cost us. Finally, the company that owned the vehicle decided not to spend the money to repair it. (This meant that we would have to go back to 'Stoon and rent another truck to get us to the next gig, which we were already a couple of days late for) All we wanted to do was go somewhere and drown our sorrows, but as it happened, it was election night and the bars were closed until the polls closed. That was the night Brian Mulroney was elected to his first term, so for us, it was a double whammy....
  11. Didn't go through it, but you're correct. I do recall seeing something off on the horizon that I thought was a pile of cow dung....that must have been it...
  12. Ah yes, the typical, "You go find the evidence to back up my claim" routine. That always works....
  13. Nobody's "whining" and it's weak to characterize people's genuine concern for our environment as such. "Assurances" are exactly what it's about. So far, all we have are promises and that doesn't cut it when so much is at stake. If, as you say, there are guarantees in place, I find it very curious that Trudeau (and Notley) hasn't mentioned them. I would have thought it would me a major topic of conversation, both in the news and on this board. Yet, all we've seen is your assertion that such guarantees are in place and a suggestion that we "go look it up". With something as important as this, it shouldn't be information one has to go looking for. It should be in bold print across every article concerning this dispute and it should be a major talking point with both the federal and Alberta governments. Yet it is not. It seems odd, n'est pas?
  14. I think RCMP investigations are very thorough and take a long time. When all is said and done, I believe that the driver (and the company he works for) will be found liable. Whether that results in criminal charges remains to be seen, although, unless they find it was somehow accidental, (mechanical failure, or road conditions) I don't see how it can't.
  15. "You're tired of explaining again and again", but all you post to back up your "explanation" is this letter from McKenna...
  16. Not a surprise. It takes a while to move away from something you've been doing for years. The Three Gorges shows just one way that China is moving towards cleaner energy. It should also be noted that the other top 2 economy in the world is taking a huge step backwards in this regard.
  17. Which was my take the first time I read it a few pages ago. Yet (as you say) it kept coming back, so I figured it needed some dissection.
  18. Biggest hydroelectric dam on the planet....
  19. So I read through this and I'd say it's carefully worded, but short on specifics. A lot of "We have this many regulations" and "This many scientists".....lots of "We are confident" and "the most stringent regulations", "best in the world" and such. Even the bit about Dilbit floating: " Based on current scientific evidence"......" depending on the environmental conditions."....Nothing specific here and it doesn't seem to me to address Jimmy's question about saltwater vs. freshwater, or weather conditions vs. a controlled lab environment. I don't see anything about the feds stepping in to cover clean up costs should a tanker company go under. (literally and figuratively) I see mention of "lifting the limit of liability", which means I suppose, we could hit the polluter with a bill that goes into the billions, but it's kind of meaningless if the company declares bankruptcy to avoid paying. This is a very real threat and I haven't seen (or heard) anything from Trudeau or McKenna that states a specific amount of funding will be made available by the federal government, in the event of a spill that the shipper can't, (or won't) pay. I still see "polluter pays" in that letter and it doesn't fill me with confidence. "Five new spill-response stations funded by industry"...Another line from McKenna's letter. I'm not 100% sure what this means, but "funded by industry" certainly looks to me like the feds aren't footing the bill. So where exactly (and when) are those stations coming from? "In addition, the federal government has launched the $1.5 billion Oceans Protections Plan (OPP), the largest investment Canada has ever made to protect our coasts and marine environments" This sounds great, but again, McKenna isn't particularly specific on what that money is, or was used for. Just more of the same "far greater protections" and "enhance marine safety along Canada’s entire coastline". Actually, the last four words of this quote are important. What that means is that the 1.5 billion (which may or may not be sufficient to clean up a major oil spill) is not earmarked for the protection of BC's coastline, it's shared over all Canadian coastline, which is (as McKenna herself points out) "the longest in the world". I think this letter paints a fairly rosy picture, but it's short on specifics and long on platitudes. Until I see or hear a specific and significant monetary commitment from the federal government, I remain unconvinced.
  20. Well this is disturbing: https://www.msn.com/en-ca/news/canada/anyone-with-a-pulse-can-pass-semi-trailer-driving-tests-in-canada-too-easy-instructors-agree/ar-AAwjfzA?li=AAggv0m I've long suspected something like this, (after seeing some of the driving habits of truckers over the years) but this paints a rather bleak picture...
  21. I love Waston as a player, but he's got to learn to calm down. He's basically got the Alex Burrows syndrome going now....he never gets the benefit of the doubt...
  22. If I was Robbo, Techera would be stapled to the bench for a month... ...Twit And as I type this, Phonsie may have saved us...
  23. This always makes me chuckle....this idea that Vancouver is the only place in BC that one can live. FTR: I own a house. (okay the bank owns most of it) It's got 4 bedrooms, one and a half baths, a rec room, a shop/laundry room and a man cave. It's on a large lot and we have no neighbors beside is, because we're on the nexus of a side street and a circle drive. We paid around 200k, and BC assessment tells us that it's now worth around $350k (although an appraisal puts the value at closer to 300k)
  24. Pretty much my take as well. I bigger slice of the pie, a plan for cleanup if the unthinkable happens and a slush fund that would kick in if a tanker owner declares bankruptcy instead of paying for said cleanup. Of course, that slush fund would have to be in the billions, not millions. Worst case scenario and all... It's my humble opinion that had Notley and the feds offered something like the above rather than threats, we'd be on our way to an agreement. Certainly, there would always be people opposed to any project with the potential to harm the environment, but as with all things, balance.
  25. Sure you didn't. The fact that the quoted line is exactly the same, excluding the final six words is just a coincidence, right?
