  1. Gotta disagree there. I've played for at least as long as you, (unless you're over 57) and I've seen the call made many times. Of course, we didn't have the advantage of instant replay, but I can say with a high degree of certainty that the "the entire body must be across the line" is incorrect.
  2. Not fired up at all, actually. I made a comment that I thought it was an illegal forward pass and was in effect, told that I was wrong. I posted an actual rule that states otherwise. Other than that, I don't really care.
  3. Nothing. You seemed to be of the opinion that the correct call was made. If that isn't the case, we are in agreement.
  4. So, because you've never seen it called, that must mean that it isn't a rule?
  5. And I'm saying that I can think of several instances where the replay officials have completely blown the call. My take is the one you referenced in '08 was one of them. AFAIK, the officials do not have the leeway to "interpret" a call that runs counter to what is stated in the official rule book.
  6. So, what you're saying is the rule book isn't really the "rule" book? Maybe they should change the name to the "suggestion book". Also, you have an impressive memory. I've been a player and a fan for 50 years and I can't definitively say whether I've seen it called or not. I've certainly seen the penalty called, but whether it was for being on the line, or over it, I couldn't say with confidence.
  7. I'd say the interpretation that you quoted is illogical. That would be the only situation in football that's viewed that way. It's like calling a player in bounds, because not all of his body was out of bounds. Think of how many incomplete passes would be overturned over the years, if the rule was viewed that way.
  8. That's interesting and mystifying at the same time. The rule book clearly states otherwise. Unless NFL.com is now fake news....
  9. I've been a football referee for many years, but my certification is at the BC amateur level. I was actually wondering if the NFL rule is different than what I have been using all along. I have always seen the rule in football as when you touch the line, you have in effect, crossed it. Think about every other situation in the game: A player who touches the sideline is out of bounds; A first down is awarded if the nose of the football just touches the first down marker: The ball only has to touch the plane of the goal line for a TD to be awarded.
  10. That's not my understanding.: http://www.nfl.com/rulebook/forwardpass AFAIK, someone who steps on the line of scrimmage is not "behind" it...
  11. "Stealth" fighter? Fffftt....I had no trouble at all seeing it ... I was happy to see the Titans win, but that looked like an illegal forward pass to me.
  12. Shi Davidi wrote a pretty good article on this today on SNET. It won't make you feel any better about the Jays' upcoming season, but it will give you some insight into Shatkins' thinking. (if you could call it that) The one thing that opened my eyes was his assertion that the Cards have cooled on Donaldson. (Davidi thinks they were shooting for a bargain) Also, all of the trade conversation has the opposition asking for Vlady Jr, or Bichette, (or both) so that's a non-starter.
  13. Nobody knows that better than a Bills fan, Chip.
  14. Not to worry, NPF....the feeling is most definitely mutual...
  15. Hate to say it Harv, but I'm pretty sure the Jags are going to ruin it this year. Especially without Shady, or at least without him at 100%. Still, it's nice to just make the dance after waiting so long. Good luck to the Rams and to Chip's Eagles, as well. Hoping to see one of them in the Super Bowl.

  17. Crappy way to lose, but the Sooners didn't deserve it with that defense. That might be the worst performance from an MLB I've ever seen...
  18. The future looks pretty bright for USC. I see them back in the hunt next year. OTOH, I'm thinking this is it for my Sooners. They carried right along after losing Prerine and Mixon in the off season, but this will be it for Baker Mayfield. To make matters worse, I'm now reading that he's got the flu...
  19. @ReggieBush: Disappointed in your boys yesterday. I only got to see the last few minutes, but it didn't look very good. I really thought they'd give the Buckeyes everything they could handle. I still had some hope, up until their QB losdt the handle on that pass. (Of course we all know, that's an incomplete pass if Tom Brady is the one who loses the ball. ) Hopefully we see better games in the final four. (Although I'd be fine with the Sooners rolling over Georgia, not that I expect that.)
  20. That's good news for all involved. He's been a good soldier for the Caps, so I wish him nothing but the best.
  21. I barely remember seeing Pele, but I vividly remember seeing the likes of Cruyff, (my all-time favorite footballer) Van Basten, Beckenbauer, Platini, Maradona, Zidane and Gerd Muller. Messi is up there with all of them. I still put Pele at #1 though....and as much as I can't stand the guy, Maradona is probably second on my list.
  22. I think the writing was on the wall for Harvey. Towards the end of the season, he was losing playing time in favor of guys like Williams and DeJong. It's sad, because he was the longest tenured 'Cap. But this is the reality of the cash-poor Whitecaps organization. Harvey will land on his feet, because he's a solid defender who can still contribute. I'm hoping he ends up in his native Cali somewhere.
  23. So it looks like the Packers played a fast one on the NFL and according to the rule book, should be obligated to release A-Rod: https://www.msn.com/en-ca/sports/nfl/teams-think-aaron-rodgers-should-be-released-after-packers-violate-ir-rules/ar-BBHfrtH?li=AAggFp5 So the question is: Does Goodell (who had no problem handing out harsh punishments to the Saints, Pats and Cowboys) have to stones to force Green Bay to release Rodgers? My money is on "no", but I do see some pretty major sanctions being levied at the pack for next season.
  24. Anyone catch the story about Charlie V being burgled and getting his toilet stolen? https://www.msn.com/en-ca/sports/news/burglars-stole-my-toilet-says-ex-raptor-charlie-villanueva/ar-BBH535o?li=AAggXBR The worst part is, there are no solid leads. They don't have a thing to go on.....
  25. Kind of a long read, but an interesting look into the path Trent Richardson took to get to the Green Riders: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2749275-trent-richardsons-long-journey-back-to-the-nfl-might-not-be-over-yet?utm_source=cnn.com&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=editorial
