  1. I'm reading that Hightower is done for the season with a torn Pec muscle. I don't follow the Pats as closely as many in this thread. How bad is this for NE? It's not like the D was tearing it up...
  2. I'm not as big a Gibby detractor as some, but I think it might be time for a new voice in the Jays' dugout. Still, unless Shatkins gives the manager (whomever he may be) some speed and defense to work with, the second coming of Casey Stengel wouldn't be able to mange the Jays into the playoffs.
  3. Strange move.... The Yankees are a team on the rise. This sort of thing usually happens with declining teams who have missed their window....(Case in point: Dusty Baker in Washington)
  4. SJ forgot their Mezquida repellent tonight....
  5. Solid all around effort from the lads so far tonight. Waston: a tower of power as usual... The guy who's really impressed me tonight is DeJong.
  6. Clayton being Clayton.... Turner made the difference for his team last night and Correa did not. Still, I like Houston's chances in the next one. Verlander has been terrific. Meanwhile in Jays land, it seems like Marcus Stroman doesn't like being criticized by the guys at Sportsnet: https://www.msn.com/en-ca/sports/mlb/blue-jays-analyst-gregg-zaun-fires-back-says-players-too-‘thin-skinned’/ar-AAtZBed?li=AAggNb9 In this instance, I side with Zaun. The (m)analyst is there to point out the dumb plays as well as the good plays and if it happens to be the home team making the dumb play, so be it. If I want to watch a biased announcer, I'll watch a Braves' broadcast, or listen to Cheech, when the Canucks are playing.... ...oh yeah, and I'd still trade Stroman for Charlie Blackmon. Straight up.
  7. FFS! That needless header by Ghazal that led to a corner was the turning point. Disappointing loss after getting the early lead... The only positive is the last two MLS champs played a knockout match and both were Cascadia teams. It's our turn!
  8. Bills, baby! Too bad the Phish and the Jets can't both lose....
  9. As disappointing as the loss was yesterday, I'm more disappointed in Wally's "by the book" mentality. After the reverse that gave Ianuzzi the big return, I thought maybe the Leos would get a bit creative. Unfortunately Wally's old school mentality just doesn't lend itself to flea flickers, or the Hook and Ladder... Definitely time for some new blood on the sidelines....
  10. Nice win for Spurs....sets up the trip to Old Trafford next Saturday. The Red Devils will be hungry for a win after their defeat at the hands of powerhouse Huddersfield.
  11. Big 2nd half for my Sooners. Came back against a surprisingly tough K-State squad. Unfortunately, 'Bama destroyed the Vois...
  12. Really? I've reffed hundreds of games and I'd make the same call 100 out of 100 times. Pretty much a textbook OPI penalty IMHO.... The right call was made on the DPI call at the back of the end zone too,
  13. If Grandy had gone deep on the next pitch, those umps would have needed a police escort out of town....
  14. I picked up a copy of "The Graveyard Book" a few years ago at the Sally Ann and really enjoyed it even though it's ostensibly a kid's book. (So is "Coraline") I've been picking up his stuff ever since. I got "Neverwhere" at the same time I bought "American Gods". It was a 2 for $15 sale at Coles...
  15. Currently reading "American Gods" by Neil Gaiman. Quickly becoming one of my favorite writers. Recently finished "Seveneves" by Neal Stephenson. Highly recommend for anyone who's a fan of hard Science Fiction. Anyone here read anything by Cixin Liu? I've read a lot of positive stuff about him. He's won a Hugo and 9 Galaxy awards. I'm definitely thinking of trying his stuff out.
  16. I think I might have found a bat to replace Bautista's next season. Check out this guy in an exhibition game in Mexico: Kid goes yard then pauses for selfie
  17. I thought this was the Browns' week to get in the win column, with the injuries that the Texans had last week... ....but it ain't looking good...
  18. Can't stand the Dodgers (another team that tries to buy their way to a championship) but I can't argue with the assessment. Janssen right now looks to me like the best closer in baseball and even though I'm not a Dodger fan, it's hard not to like Justin Turner. Here's a guy with a ton of power, but his ego isn't so big that he won't choke up on the bat and go the other way with two strikes. I can think of a lot of power hitters that could learn something from him. Kershaw looks like he's exorcised his playoff demons and the rotation looks scary with the addition of Darvish. The one negative is the loss of Seager for the NLCS, but I think there's enough talent on that roster to win without him. As long as we don't see a New York - Los Angeles World Series, I'm okay with it. (You know that's the matchup that MLB and Fox want)
  19. Can't get too excited about a 1-nil win over Bournemouth, but Spurs will take it. OTOH, seeing the Gunners and Chelsea lose gives me the warm and fuzzies... Watford looks like they might be for real.
  20. This is the great thing about the Faceless men. (and women) It makes just about any theory a possibility. Thanks George. Now get back to writing, dammit!
  21. Disappointing ABs from both Harper and Werth in the 9th, but the real killer was Loboton getting picked off in the 8th.
  22. I'm just hoping that Martin does some catching up while the series is in hiatus. The guy already looks like a cross between Santa Claus and the Pillsbury Doughboy...I'm afraid he's going to die before he finishes writing the rest of the books.
